check yourself before you wreck yourself
Life has been hell this past week and I've been wanting to inflict pain on others to make myself feel better, but I realized this isn't right. Ā I need for a way to get rid of this pain and anger. I want to be healthier emotionally. Ā
I'm thinking about my relationship now and despite how I was treated, what could I have done differently to prevent it from going down the path that it did. It's a lot easier to blame someone else for your problems because you don't have to look in the mirror and face your own demons. Ā

fuck everything
This weekend was particularly hard on me. I thought things were looking up but seeing Dennis at the Christmas party last night really pissed me off. He was happy and everyone was talking to him, even though everyone knows he helped put an end to my relationship.
How the fuck is everyone expecting me to act? Am I just supposed to paint a smile on my face and pretend Iām happy to see him? Fuck my life. I really donāt know what I did to deserve this. This isnāt even a regular breakup! I have to see them happy and shit when Iām dying inside.
This made me think of my life and how difficult it is. My friends don't seem like friends when I need them the most. I had so many suicidal thoughts this morning, thinking about the different ways I could just end all the pain in my life. I haven't felt like this before. I've always thought that people who've committed suicide are idiots but now I have an understanding of where they're coming from. I feel like I don't have anyone, even when friends say they're there for me their actions say otherwise. I don't know what to do. I haven't felt so weak and helpless in my life.
I feel like I have 3 options: meet someone new, leave the city for good, or just end all my pain. I spend my time online trying to meet someone... Just trying to make a connection, just trying to fill the void in my life. I have to wait another year to move so I can finish up my MBA so I can't leave yet. I don't want to explore option #3.
I'm not trying to be emo here. I just want to be happy but I feel like I'm given an impossible situation. I know life isn't fair. I know that life sucks sometimes but this is really messed up. Fuck everything.
your wide eyes are my favourite placeĀ

Its funny how you can go from talking to someone everyday, to being someone they probably donāt even think about anymore so quicklyĀ
I hate that.
You're preaching to the choir!
ARE YOU WITH THE RIGHT PARTNER? During a seminar, a woman asked,ā How do I know if I am with the right person?ā The author then noticed that there was a large man sitting next to her so he said, āIt depends. Is that your partner?ā In all seriousness, she answered āHow did you know?ā āLet me answer this question because the chances are good that itās weighing on your mind.ā replied the author. Hereās the answer: Every relationship has a cycle⦠In the beginning; you fall in love with your partner. You anticipate their calls, want their touch, and like their idiosyncrasies. Falling in love wasnāt hard. In fact, it was a completely natural and spontaneous experience. You didnāt have to DO anything. Thatās why itās called āfallingā in love. People in love sometimes say, I was swept of my feet. Picture the expression. It implies that you were just standing there; doing nothing, and then something happened TO YOU. Falling in love is a passive and spontaneous experience. But after a few months or years of being together, the euphoria of love fades. Itās a natural cycle of EVERY relationship. Slowly but surely, phone calls become a bother (if they come at all), touch is not always welcome (when it happens), and your spouseās idiosyncrasies, instead of being cute, drive you nuts. The symptoms of this stage vary with every relationship; you will notice a dramatic difference between the initial stage when you were in love and a much duller or even angry subsequent stage. At this point, you and/or your partner might start asking, āAm I with the right person?ā And as you reflect on the euphoria of the love you once had, you may begin to desire that experience with someone else. This is when relationships breakdown. The key to succeeding in a relationship is not finding the right person; itās learning to love the person you found. People blame their partners for their unhappiness and look outside for fulfillment. Extramarital fulfillment comes in all shapes and sizes. Infidelity is the most common. But sometimes people turn to work, a hobby, friendship, excessive TV, or abusive substances. But the answer to this dilemma does NOT lie outside your relationship. It lies within it. Iām not saying that you couldnāt fall in love with someone else. You could. And TEMPORARILY youād feel better. But youād be in the same situation a few years later. Because (listen carefully to this) The key to succeeding in a relationship is not finding the right person; itās learning to love the Person you found. SUSTAINING love is not a passive or spontaneous experience. You have to work on it day in and day out. It takes time, effort, and energy. And most importantly, it demands WISDOM. You have to know WHAT TO DO to make it work. Make no mistake about it. Love is NOT a mystery. There are specific things you can do (with or without your partner), just as there are physical laws of the universe (such as gravity), there are also laws for relationships. If you know how to apply these laws, the results are predictable. Love is therefore a ādecisionā. Not just a feeling. Remember this always: the universe determines who walks into your life. It is up to you to decide who you let walk away, who you let stay, and who you refuse to let go!
Amen. Since day 1 in our relationship I've been upfront about what I felt a relationship required. It's unfortunate that Pat didn't feel this way. I'm just bitter about the time I wasted with him.
Have you ever tried sleeping with a broken heart? Well you can try sleeping in my bed... Why don't you hold me, need me? I thought you told me you'd never leave me... Tonight, I'm gonna find a way to make it without you...

Silence
Looking back, one of the biggest problems in our relationship was how I and Pat both interpreted silence. Ā When we would have a fight, he would say one thing to argue his point then get quiet.Ā I on the other hand would try and continue to prove my point and when he still didnāt respond I accepted that as him agreeing with me.
Was this really stupid? Of course my biased opinion would think this isnāt the case. If he stopped talking then what else would that mean? That he didnāt care about what we were arguing about anymore? That he realized he was wrong? Ā That he was trying to avoid a fight and expect the issue to magically disappear? Ā I donāt know. Iāve been criticized heavily before for having expectations of him that were unreasonable since I was expecting him to read my mind. Ā If I didnāt interpret silence in agreement, then what would I be doing? Pointing out that I was wrong and he was right? Being accused of trying to start a fight? I really wanted to figure out our issues but he really didnāt want to deal with them.
From day 1 Iāve made it a point to say that sweeping problems under the rug leads to bigger problems in the future and he constantly denies that he does this when he does it in a regular basis. Ā Is avoiding a fight and not dealing with the problem at hand the same thing? I believe it is, but he of course will come up with an excuse to not accept this. Ā
Paranoia
I daydreamed at work today thinking that maybe just maybe I went extremely paranoid and Pat wasnāt really cheating on me. Thereās too much evidence to ignore:
- He admitted to thinking Dennis was attractive
- at summer of sound they parties together all night together and didn't party with the group of friends he went there with
- Dennis texted him ācome cuddle with meā when Pat slept over at his place after a night of partying. Pat just said that Dennis was being his weird self
- As opposed to working out with me, he wanted to start working out with Dennis in downtown. Ā This would mean that he would drive to work or use a park and ride (car + bus scenario) instead of carpooling with me. Ā We used to work out together at the U of M and seeing that this decision affected me, making the choice to switch to GoodLife without me and completely altering his transportation to help "a friend" get into working out seemed like he was bending over backwards (figuratively and possibly literally)Ā
- He deleted a text from Dennis when I asked to see it. His excuse was that I said I don't like it when he shares our problems with our friends. Two problems with this logic: Dennis isn't a close friend of mine. He didn't delete messages from other friends he was discussing our problems with.Ā
- Last text I got from him said āIām not saying his feelings towards arenāt growingā
- Last time we talked I said āyou have feelings for Dennisā to which he replied āI donāt even know if those feelings are being reciprocatedā
- I texted Dennis asking for help on how to get back with Pat and he replied "...sorry I'm really not the best person to talk to about this." Ā which conflicted with what Pat said about all those homos encouraging them to stick together
I'm still very hurt to this day that Pat used our problems to grow closer to Dennis. I don't think it was a conscious and strategic decision, but more so a "feels good so I'll keep on doing it" situation. Ā
My main reason for documenting this information is that I don't want to forget what happened. I want it documented and it may be from my point of view but I can look back at this one day and learn from it. Ā One day I hope to be able to forgive him for what he did but that's not likely to happen anytime soon. Ā For that to even happen he needs to acknowledge what he did to me and for that to happen he needs to look in the mirror....something he has so much trouble doing...
Ups and downs of the long weekend
Saturday evening was great. Robbie, Lindsay and I went to a social and although we didnāt win anything, we went to Phuong and Jessicaās place and had a lot of fun playing some drinking games and screwing light bulbs. Ā It was the first time in a long time I was happy without Pat. Ā It was great to know my friends were there for me.
Then last night I was supposed to go to Phuong and Jessicaās place for some wine and a movie. Ā I found out though that Dennis, Joe and company would be coming over that evening as well. I didnāt know if this included Pat but I didnāt want to know because it would just make me angry if he did. Ā He had told me that he wouldnāt see my friends until I was over the breakup. Ā Itās been less than a month and definitely not over it.
A part of me wants to find out, but another part of me doesnāt. Ā I think he did because I really donāt expect him to keep his end of the deal since heāll always find a reason to justify it. Ā I guess Iāve come to expect less and less from him since Iāve known him. Ā
I might end up seeing him in a few weeks since itās Lindaās birthday. Iām still unsure on whether or not I should go. I want to go out and have fun with my friends, but on the other hand I donāt want to see Pat. Iām still full of so much anger.
losing my shiiiiiit
Every time I go through my phone there are so many pictures of him. I just want to delete them all. Maybe I will... I need the space on my SD card anyways...

After reading about emotional cheating/affairs, itās hard to concentrate at work today. Huge deadline was missed and it looks like weāre going to miss it again but that doesnāt matter with my heartache.
Iām going to hang out with an old friend after work. I havenāt actually come out to her but she knows about me through mutual friends. She told me to invite my āgood friendā for dinner, thinking that Pat and I are still together. I will need to rehash what happened once again. Not sure if Iāll be angry or ok afterwards.
Later tonight I will also be hanging out with Lawrence - a guy who Iāve met through mutual friends. Iāve known him for such a short time but heās one of the most supportive people in my life I have going through this.
Emotional Affair
An "emotional affair" is an affairĀ which excludes physical intimacy, and is usually based on emotional intimacy. An emotional affair can also be referred to as anĀ affair of the heart. It is a phenomenon that is not limited to married couples, affecting people in serious relationships of every type. An emotional affair may begin innocently as a friendshipĀ with a person outside the relationship. Over time, the partner becomes infatuated, obsessed in some cases, with this friend - and eventually tries to become friendlier, spending more time with him or her at the cost of the relationship that person is already in.
