Activity Level: 7-8. I’m a part of other groups, although I check my blogs daily and I’m always around for plotting. I also work an internship and co-admin a skeleton group, so that takes up time. I believe I’ll be able to meet the activity guidelines, but I want to give myself a little wiggle room knowing that sometimes muse escapes me.

How did you hear about us? And what drew you in?: I’ve been dying for a literate Marauders group for ages now. I saw you on my recommended blogs and had to jump in when I saw you still had Lily open.

Anything else: I’m so excited for an established group. I hope I’m accepted in.

In-Character:

Desired Character: Lily Evans

Why this character? I’ve always been fond of Lily. I’m enchanted by her passion and her ability to care for others. I love characters who look for the good in others and are optimistic but not naive. Lily Evans is strong in so many ways, and I really admire that about her. She’s dedicated to her cause and her friends and it’s something I want to emulate in my own life. She’s also brilliant, and her brilliance is the sort that she can wear without making it her whole personality. She’s a complex character though, struggling with pride and her strong desire to belong.

Ships/Anti-Ships: I’ve always loved James and Lily, but generally things come down to chemistry. Usually, I don’t ship Lily and Severus simply because I see it as more familial love.

Headcanons:

Personal: Lily doesn’t like to show it, but she struggles with pride. She’s got an air of superiority about her that has faded as she’s grown older but has never quite gone away. This, plus her stubbornness often leads to feeling as if she’s got it right. When she’s set her mind to something, very little can change her opinions. However, she often recognizes this in herself and has worked to curb this bad habit. She trusts her friends to hold her accountable, calling her out when her pride is getting in the way of a decision. It’s incredibly hard to admit when she’s got something wrong, but to those she trusts she’ll come clean about it. This is one of the reasons Severus’s words hurt so much that day; she’d spent years defending him, only to look like a fool in front of the whole school. There were other reasons it hurt of course, but Lily’s pride stayed injured for a long while after that.

Family: Although Lily still talks to her parents, things have become strained. Petunia has asked them to pick a side, and they simply can’t. Picking one daughter over the other is near impossible. Lily, as a result, has stopped coming by the house as often. Besides, it’s dangerous. Voldemort is out there looking to hurt those involved with the Order however he can. Lily’s involvement with her parents is a risk she just isn’t willing to take. So she limits the times she’ll speak to them on the phone. She only visits them about once a month. It hurts, separating herself like this, but it’s necessary for their safety. Petunia she hasn’t spoken to since she was eighteen, nor does she have any intention of speaking to her again. Petunia had hurt Lily deeply, and there are some lines that – once crossed – a relationship can’t bounce back from. Lily is magical and regardless of how that upsets Petunia, she isn’t going to try and hide who she is anymore for her sister’s comfort.

Found Family: After losing touch with her real family, Lily has found a family in other places. First, it was by gaining a brother in Severus. She loved him dearly, and would defend him until her dying breath. She’d hoped they could be friends long into the future and overcome their house differences – that maybe they could be a success story amongst all those negatives. However, it wasn’t to be. There was no going back after he’d called her a mudblood. The slur was too much for Lily’s pride and her heart. She’d seen him for what he truly was then, and she’d always wondered how she had failed him so terribly as a friend. She found friends in other places though. A group of girls she’s ride or die with. The Marauders, somehow, have also wormed their way into her heart. She sees them all as family, and can’t imagine life without them now that she has them in her life. Things started out rough, sure, but all their friendship needed was a bit of growing up. Lily started to find their harmless pranks amusing, and as she got to know them, she was able to see what really bonded them. They’re friends who look out for one another, who love each other dearly. That, plus extended time around them, convinced Lily they were kind people who just wanted to leave the world a better, brighter place.

A fighter’s heart: Lily has always had a passion for justice. She’s always despised bullies and she sees her fight against Death Eaters to be an extension of death. They’re prejudiced terrorists who need to find something better to do with their time. However, she recognizes the danger they pose. They want to take away everything she’s worked so hard for these past years. They want to murder her, and all like her, and all those that sympathize with her. Lily sees no place in the world for people so full of rage and vitriol. She joined the Order of the Phoenix because she believes wholeheartedly in their cause. She believes in bringing down Voldemort and all his followers. She is a bit uncomfortable taking the law into her own hands, but it’s clear now that Ministry isn’t going to be doing anything about these people. It’s up to people like her, people with a heart for justice, to do something about the unfairness in the world.

Plot Points:

I’m excited to explore how Lily interacts with those she may not like or be fond of. I haven’t had a chance to really right that before. She’s got a temper, and I imagine there are those among the pureblood elite and the Death Eater circles that bring it out.

Lily joined the Order for a very simple reason, but who finally convinced her that it was the right choice? Who reminds her, when she starts to doubt, that they’re doing what’s best for the world by fighting? This connection is something I’d really like to explore. I think ultimately, it’s multiple people. Who does Lily rely on when she starts to doubt herself?

What challenges does Lily face being separated from her family as she is? I imagine it’s difficult for someone who loves so deeply to separate herself from those she loves. It doesn’t help that the world is a scary place. She constantly frets over them and worries that she’ll regret not reaching out more.

Expanded Traits:

Kind: Ask anyone about Lily Evans, and one of the first things they’ll tell you is that she’s kind. She’s always looked for the good in people, even when all the evidence points away from that. Although she’s quick to judge, she tries to put aside her judgments and focus on how the person acts, using their behavior as an indicator rather than the rumors people spread about them. She’s always there for someone who needs a helping hand. Although Lily can have a temper, it takes a lot of poking and prodding to pull it out of her. More often than not people who try to get a rise out of her are met with compassion and the benefit of the doubt.

Stubborn: Despite her kindness, Lily Evans has a stubborn streak in her. She’s reluctant to let go of what she loves, fiercely defending herself and her choices until forced to admit she was wrong. It’s caused strain in her relationships before, with fights dragging on for weeks rather than days because Lily simply can’t let go of her pride and acknowledge that she was wrong. It’s hard for her to see the change in people, often unwilling to admit that someone is different from how she’s known them. That’s why it took so long for her to get along with the Marauders. She was stuck seeing them (mostly James) as childish and immature, incapable of being serious even when the times demanded it. However, as she’s grown up, she’s been able to let some of this stubbornness go. Becoming comfortable with being wrong is still something Lily struggles with, but with good friends to hold her accountable there’s nothing she can’t overcome.

Patronus: Lily’s Patronus has always been a doe. She’s been able to create a corporeal Patronus since sixth year. The doe reflects her compassionate and maternal nature. She’s social, meeting as many people as she can and making friends with many of them. She has a tight-knit circle that she relies on and trusts with her life. The doe is an uncommon Patronus for a Gryffindor, as most doe Patronus holders are sorted into Hufflepuff.

What would your character do with a 12-hour dose of Felix Felicis?: Feeling emboldened and lucky, Lily would try to make amends with her family first. It’s hurt, being apart from them. She’d feel as if she were on top of the world, and with anything going her way, that must mean her sister would finally get off her high horse and apologize. Perhaps she’d write to Severus Snape as well and try to figure out why he called her that awful word all those years ago. She’d quit her job and apply for what she really wants to be – a healer. Sure she wouldn’t start as a healer, she’d have to start as an apprentice, but it’d be better than doing her flexible day job.

Boggart: When Lily faces down a boggart, it’s her sister. Her sister spews vile, insisting that Lily is both a freak and a failure, someone who will never amount to anything no matter how hard she tries. Lily is afraid of failure and of being an outcast. It’s why her relationship with her sister may never be repaired, considering all those years of loathsome words that came tumbling out of Petunia’s mouth. They struck Lily deep and left her with doubts about herself and her capabilities.

How Did You Hear About Us: Kitty, I’m literally obsessed with you.

DESIRED CHARACTER:

Desired Character: Morgana Burke, but she goes by Mor.

Why This Character?: Her muse hit me like a freight train. Borgin and Burkes is super interesting to me because of its heavy connotations with the Death Eaters, but the only thing that Dumbledore could say about Caractacus Burke, the shop’s founder, was that he was greedy. He hired Tom Riddle just out of school but then never knew what Tom became after Voldemort disappeared, which makes me think that he’s probably not a Death Eater or necessarily a blood supremacist. So he’s a businessman with a fascination for artefacts and I’d love to explore that family a bit more. Fast-forward a couple of generations to the present, and we meet Morgana, the daughter of an academic who’s life has gone a bit awry and the expectation is on her to run the shop. Does she want to? Absolutely not. Not even a little bit.

I think she makes a nice change to my other characters (even my past characters of Emmeline and Rosmerta) because she’s all of the things that a pureblood witch shouldn’t be. She’s lazy and a bit crass and unapologetic about it. But she’s also got a heart of gold (try brass)  and it was her who hired Remus despite knowing what he was.

Headcanons:

She’s an Artist: The firstborn child of an aristocratic family, Morgana had always grown gratefully. Thankful that she had been born a girl. The expectation on her was thus singular: marry well. Her parents had always encouraged her intrepid spirit but they never expected her to run their shop, when they were going to have a son to carry on the Burke name.. In fact, they never doubted  what she would become. Because as early as she can remember, Morgana recalls the attention, when her father would bring her out at a party, shine bright smiles in her direction as she opened her mouth and sang. It was a gift, one that she cultivated it over the years with a private tutor, even at Hogwarts. She never doubted that she wouldn’t be accepted to the Conservatoire Supérieur de Musique Magique in Paris fresh from Hogwarts. Nor should it come as a surprise that when, two years later, she was issued a letter of academic expulsion, that the event broke her heart.

She’s a Victim: It wasn’t her fault. Not really, and the night started innocuously enough. A party in the Burke’s townhouse in Dublin and Morgana was home for the holidays, she was nineteen. Following the death of her mother as a child, and no male heir forthcoming, her father had grown lonely, disinterested in his father’s business and then synonymous with Dublin’s social scene. It was a party like a thousand other: a melange of the usual faces, people she vaguely knew. Blood as blue as her own, handsome and so very charmed by her: her excellence, her poise. On this night, there had been a man, one that had taken particular interest in her many good qualities. She had never seen him in the house before, and he told her, accent thick and foreign, that he was a business associate of her father’s. He had green eyes, and silken words, capable of slipping her away from the hustle and bustle into a darkened corner. It took little time for her interest to turn to unease and then to fear. He had relished her little whimpers as she had begged him to stop. When she fell pregnant, she was faced with a choice. And she chose what she chose. Lots of places in Paris offered a way out, and she had taken it. Rather die than have that man’s… To this day she doesn’t know who told the papers and the following months were a blur, an infinity pressed into the eye of a needle. It was the media circus more than anything that broke her father’s heart but she doubts that he ever believed her version of events. She never told him who it was, the idea causing her blood to freeze. The man had already proven that he was capable of great evil.  In fact, she just stopped, altogether. Sleeping, eating, living. She got drunk. And she cried, and then even that stopped as she grew cold as ice. Grew to hate the society that raised her to be good and decided that she would much rather be bad.  

She’s a Gambler: It’s not an addiction, not when she’s this good at it, but a habit. Morgana spends several nights a week playing cards and has a bit of a reputation in the casinos around the UK and Europe as a real card shark. The thing is, her competitors, men with the confidence of people who have never been told to shut the fuck up, never see her coming. She’s too pretty and with a name like Burke she’s never seen as more than a bored, rich Pureblood. And it never gets old, their expression as she rinses them, the delicious high of victory. She could stop anytime she likes…. But why would she stop when the reward is so delicious?

She’s a Patron Saint: They think she’s mad for doing it and she lets them think it. But as far as she sees it, the difference between the women who walk the streets and her own comfortable office in Borgin and Burkes is nothing but a matter of perspective. Both ply their wares, subject to the whims of pureblood wizards with high ideas of themselves. People who take what they will, indifferent to the repercussions. Alternate views of the same shit. So Morgana looks after them, the prostitutes on Knockturn Alley. Her girls. Knows them by name, their real names, the name of their pimp. Brings them food and clothes and spare coins. Trades them for secrets and an hour or two where her mind rests easy. When she can feel like an ally.

Lazy: It’s easy to be lazy when you hate your job as much as Morgana hates her grandfather’s shop. It’s nothing particular, not the shop’s fault, but there’s something about retail that makes her blood boil. The entitlement of the public to act how they please, speak to her how they like. So she shirks it as much as she can. Hires the right people and let’s the business run itself, much to her father’s displeasure. Hides in the office until she absolutely must face the music. She doesn’t need to work, the de Burca family have more money than she could ever spend. But she does it for her father and her grandfather in lieu of the male heir they never received- what more do they expect?

Assertive: Gone is the girl who let herself be led. The witch has learned to speak her mind, unwavering and direct. She has a lot to say about entitled people and has made a lot of people very angry because of this. But, really, she’s marmite. People love her and loathe her and she doesn’t care.

Your Characters Patronus: A Crow. Named for the Morrigan, it was natural that her patronus would be her namesake. the Mór-Ríoghain or ‘Great Queen’ in modern parlance, was a Irish symbol of war. Of fate and death, the great cycle of life, amoral, indifferent to good and bad. When she first summoned it, after long minutes spent a hazy summer tern in Hogwarts, it felt as natural as breathing. Meeting her spiritual, natural counterpart, felt like coming home.

It was a gentleman’s wood, he had tried to explain to her when she glared up at him. Used for fighting and funeral pyres. Her mother’s wand was made of blackthorn, Ollivander had then told her and that thought had made her grin.

Desired Character: Raven Fawley

Why This Character?: I’m fascinated by this character. Being a werewolf is a terrible, shameful thing, and yet she’s been raised to be proud of it. But she’s not brutal or cruel, not the same way Fenrir is. The way I see it, Raven is fighting for her species, for the rights of children just like her who had something terrible happen to them. She doesn’t want them to suffer like she did, she wants them to have support, and treatment. She wants to be a part of society too, and be able to manage her ‘condition’, the part of her that is never going away. I want to explore the tests of Raven’s loyalties, and the push and pull between the different parts of her personality. I think she is an interesting, complex character, and I would like to try to do her justice.

Headcanons: Raven barely remembers who she was before this, and she certainly has long ago forgotten (or buried) her name. Fenrir gave her many nicknames as a child, though mostly he just shouted things at her and expected her to listen. The ones that stuck were (obviously) Raven, and Magpie, which he still occasionally calls her, along with “Maggie”. In general, Raven will use Maggie to introduce herself if she wants to sound more normal, or use an alias. She rarely gives a last name.

She’s the Wendy to Fenrir’s group of Lost Boys and Girls. She’s both his first and his second. The den mother. And if Fenrir is its spine and its claws, she is its heart. She suffered the worst of it because she did not have the older version of herself to temper Fenrir’s moods and abuse. Others came after her, before she was in any position to help them, and many of them did not survive.

Raven is not a skilled witch by any means, but she can hold her own in some respects. She knows most of what is taught in the Hogwarts curriculum because she needs the bare minimum of that in order to make it in society. Also because she teaches the younger wolves, the ones who got bitten before Hogwarts like her, or the ones who were bitten while in school. Thankfully, as the pack grew, so did the group expertise, so Raven could learn from the other turned wolves—who were willing to become part of the pack—and there were teachers other than herself.

Raven is something of a jack of all trades. She is proficient at healing since oftentimes going to see a Healer is out of the question. She is not good at Potions in the traditional sense, but wives tales, folklore, home-brews and folk medicine is something she has made an effort to learn (again since, going to a Healer was not an option). Her fighting skills are second only to her Alpha’s, and she works hard to keep them that way. Because she’s in Private Security, some ability in Defence Against the Dark Arts and Dark magic is an asset as well.

Obviously Raven had little to no formal education. She cannot cast non-verbal spells—though she’s working on it—and gets impatient with following Potions instructions. She does not read fast, and really will only do it at all if she has to. It is not something she necessarily enjoys. She is more of a ‘trial and error’ kind of witch at best, and will do what feels or seems right to her, or what makes sense. This lack of formal education could be seen as a benefit to her (one day), as she is unlimited by the usual rules and restrictions placed on young witches and wizards.

When on her own, Raven can be impetuous, and she has always been headstrong. But she carries the weight of all the wolves that rely on her on her shoulders, and so does her best to come back alive.

Raven has a lot of mixed emotions about Fenrir. On the one hand, he kidnapped and made her an outcast from society. On the other, he made her more powerful than she would ever have been on her own. He brutalized and assaulted her over and over, but she is stronger for it. He gave her a purpose, though he uses the responsibility she feels for their kind and their pack as leverage against her sometimes. She respects his abilities, but doesn’t always respect him as a person. And she certainly doesn’t want to be like him, but she does want to be a leader too. But she doesn’t want to challenge him for Alpha.

She is mistrustful and can be brash and abrasive, hard to get to know. But she is also very nurturing, and has a softer side that only the younger pack members usually get to see. She is not brainwashed, and she will never turn another person if she can help it. She knows what she is and has come to accept it, but she wouldn’t want to bring the kind of misery she has suffered into someone else’s life.

Resentful: Raven is resentful of a lot of things. Of Fenrir for a lot of things: ruining her life, leaving her with the responsibility of the actual daily care of the children he turns, of his inability to give her the care and affection she feels she deserves, etc. She is also resentful of the legal system, and wizarding society. She feels that werewolves are unfairly discriminated against for something they oftentimes can’t help and didn’t choose. She thinks that people with their ‘condition’ could be better managed, but also thinks fuck everyone, she/they don’t need to be managed at all! Unruly: Raven gets away with most things by now. She still is mostly respectful to Fenrir, but she knows she is indispensable to him at this point, and so can get away with a lot more. So long as she isn’t compromising his position or status with the rest of the pack, it’s fine. She is also the type to get in bar fights, and to whisper/say something that will start a fight that she then watches in amusement.

Vindictive: While most of Raven’s pranks are harmless, when someone has truly pissed her off, she makes sure they know it. She will not stop until she gets someone back for whatever they did to her. She can be mean and catty (ironic), and might eventually forgive a slight, but she will never forget it.

Your Characters Patronus: Raven cannot make a patronus. She might have some happy memories, but she is not powerful enough to make a corporeal patronus, nor does she have a powerful enough positive memory to sustain it.

What Would Your Character Do With A 12 Hour Dose of Felix Felicis: Felix Felicis: Raven would rather have a time turner, and go back and keep herself from ever being bitten. As it stands…luck is of no use to the werewolf. She makes her own luck and her own destiny. She is determined to be in charge of her own fate, conveniently ignoring how tied hers is with Fenrir’s.

Your Characters Boggart: Raven’s Boggart is Fenrir as he was in the beginning. The monster from her nightmares. The one who snatched her up from her home She dissolves that fear by remembering the pranks she has played on him over the years—once she became safe in her position. And in remembering the look on his face the first time she managed to pin him.

Your Characters Wand: Raven has owned many wands over the years. With who she is and how she lives her life, it is an occupational hazard for her wand to get either broken or lost. She steals, finds, or wins her new wands, and doesn’t really know much about them until she takes them to get assessed or appraised. Over the years, she has had wands made from Blackthorn, Chestnut, Ebony, Fir, Hawthorn, Holly, and Pine. She hasn’t broken or lost them all, either, but has her spares hidden away in case she needs them.
