A mysterious detail in Penelope's illustration...
I think we've all seen this illustration of Penny and, for the most part, we have assumed that the rose she is holding in her hands is a reference to the color of Eckles' affection score… Because that was my case, until I read a comment on Facebook that supports another theory…
I think you may have already noticed it from the second image in this post, but in case you haven't, there are 5 petals on Penelope's legs and an extra one that she's holding in her hands…
The dark red color is supposed to represent Eckles, but what if it doesn't? That questioning is exactly the theory I read: the dark red color actually represents Penelope herself!
In the frame where the roses are, we can see that:
In the upper left corner are the pink roses, which represent Reynold
In the lower left corner are the red roses, which represent Callisto
In the upper right corner are the purple roses, which represent Winter
In the middle right are the blue roses, which represent Derrick
And in the lower right corner is a white-yellow/green rose? Which technically should represent Eckles...
In fact, it is canon that Eckles is associated with that color:
Ngl, when I saw the illustration for the first time I thought Penelope was holding Eckles's rose because we're still in the part of the story where she keeps considering him her first choice... But after analyzing this, I no longer believe in it because, at least for me, that person's comment makes a lot of sense.
I mean, if in case the theory wasn't justified, then what's that rose in the frame for?
