So, last year I decided to step down from my management role to finish a degree in fashion merchandising. If you don't know what that is, it's basically a business degree dedicated specifically for fashion companies. You learn every aspect of running a fashion business and there's a bunch of different career options you can go into from it. I had classes like styling, fashion show production, fashion history, business policy, retailing marketing, visual merchandising, fashion buying, advertising, public relations, international retailing, to name a few. I basically can start my own business now and I plan to (long term goal). Anyway, I moved to Miami from D.C. to pursue this goal and a year and some change later, I have accomplished it. I have less than 20 days left of school. I just currently finished my portfolio of all my best work within the last year to present to a panel of judges. It's the last step of graduating. This has not been an easy task. I worked full time and went to school full time. I've developed bad habits like smoking and drinking to deal with all the stress. I also discovered an anxiety problem I have from being overwhelmed. The sad thing is I'm not completely finished. This is just phase 1. This is only my associates degree and I will continue to pursue my bachelors and my masters. Overall, I'm really grateful for the experience. I've learned that the impossible is doable when you have no other choice but to do it. I will be moving back to D.C. the 22nd and I'm fucking ecstatic! I'm excited to have time to actually get dressed instead of wearing leggings everyday and having time to put on makeup without it melting off in this Miami humidity. Honestly, I just couldn't be bothered with it. It seemed ridiculous with my tight ass schedule. Anyway, I had to support myself, meaning pay for school, and be my own personal support system. That made it a zillion times harder but I had no other choice. The moral of this story is even when your back is against the wall, the main person you can depend on is yourself. This is the most cliche saying but if you put your mind to it, you can accomplish anything.
