Maya: Hi, MC! Welcome to Jorvik’s riding camp!

I’m Maya, the manager and lead instructor. Today we have two students starting together! Allow me to introduce you to each other.

MC is new to Jorvik! Lisa moved here a while back, but she’s been traveling lately.

Lisa: Hi, MC! It’s a pleasure to meet you! This charming fellow is my horse, Starshine.

I had… well… a scary experience when I was younger. But now that I have Starshine I want to regain my confidence, so I’m going to take a few lessons again.

Maya: That’s the horse you’ll be riding, MC.

It’s a Jorvik Warmblood that has been stabled here by a generous sponsor while we look for a permanent home, but the horse hasn’t taken to anyone.

It goes against the grain here to put a human and horse together if they don’t share a strong bond.

Lisa: It’s true. When I moved to Jorvik, people kept telling me that the bond between human and horse is stronger here than anywhere else in the world, and I’ve come to believe it.

Most locals say that Jorvik’s special relationship with horses is all thanks to Aideen’s gift, which is either Jorvegian mythology or the Truth with a capital T depending on who you talk to.

Maya: The horse is acting very excited today! You can approach it, MC. Maybe you have the right touch to calm it down.

MC goes up to SH and pets them.

Lisa: Wow… beautiful! Aw, Starshine, it reminds me of when we met.

SH: *Whinny*

Maya: Congratulations, MC! It looks like you have made a friend for life. The first thing you need to do is mount your horse!

MC mounts SH

Maya: You definitely belong together. What name are you going to give your new companion?

MC: I was thinking SH. Do you like it?

SH: *Nicker*

Lisa:  It’s perfect. You and SH are bound to have many fine adventures, MC.

Maya: Alrighty, then! I can see that you are seated well. Have you spent time on a horse before?

Choice alternatives: Yes No Yes picked

Maya: Great! We’ll follow your pace, so you can move through the lessons as you please.

Now let’s take SH for a spin.

I’m going to guess you are a full-on galloping kind of thrill seeker, but you have to walk before you can run, am I right? Let’s move through SH’s gaits.

Lisa: Come on, let’s do it together!

MC, SH, Lisa and Starshine does a lap in the paddock

Maya: Great! Everything that moves has to know how to stop.

Ride over here and stop as abruptly as you can!

MC rides and hits X to stop instantly.

Maya: You and SH are working really well together!

Let’s try something a little more challenging.

First, I want you to pick up that bar over there.

And then place it on the obstacle I’ve prepared!

MC picks up the bar and places it on the obstacle to prepare a jump.

Maya: Excellent! I’m sure you can guess what’s next! 

Now you will jump over the obstacle you just constructed.

Lisa, please go first. MC, please follow. 

Lisa and Starshine jumps first, followed by MC and SH.

Maya: Great work! You’ve finished today’s lessons. I feel good about letting you out of the paddock.

I really want you to meet our friend Alex. I have a strong feeling you will be good pals. 

Lisa: Oh yeah, you’ll love her! She makes me laugh til I snort.

Maya: I have a few things to put away. You two go find her and I’ll catch you later.

Lisa: I’ll ride with you; lead the way!

The gate to the paddock opens and you and Lisa ride off to meet Alex.

Depending on if you picked yes or no earlier on the following dialogue differs a bit, but as far as I can tell it’s about the same info.

Alex: Hi! You must be the newcomer to Jorvik! I’m Alex.

Nice to meet you, MC. Long time no see, Lisa!

I just arrived from Moorland; it’s right across the bridge here.

I’m sure you’ll get to explore it to your heart’s content once you’ve settled in, MC!

Lisa: Why don’t we take a little hack to look around the campground before heading to the stables?

Choices: 1.What’s a hack? 2.Sounds perfect!

Alex: Excellent!

Alex jumps on behind Lisa on Starshine and you ride off together, getting some dialogue while on the hack.

Alex: The riding camp’s cabins are pretty cozy.

Misty Grove is nice to explore…in the daylight. It’s only a small forest but still kind of creepy at night. 

Have you gone shopping, yet? You probably haven’t had time. Definitely have a look later!

Here we are at the stables! Time to give Starshine and SH a rest.

Lisa: I promised to call my dad. Will you water Starshine for me, Alex?

Alex: Yeah, of course!

Look how thirsty SH and Starshine are! We’d better get to it.

Just take this bucket and fill it at the well, then pour water into the trough.

There’s always chores to do around the stables. This is a fairly easy one if the bucket doesn’t leak.

Alex: Linda! Gah! You snuck up on me just by sitting too still! Make a little noise when you’re reading quietly, will you?

Alex: Get your nose out of that book and come meet MC.

Linda: We’ve already met. Hiya.

Alex: When did you meet?

Linda: Ages ago.

Alex: Impossible! MC just arrived in Jorvik to attend riding camp.

Linda: Huh, strange. I guess I’m just experiencing a little déjà vu. It’s nice to meet you!

It’s probably a good thing you got me to put down my book because Maya asked me to help her with tonight’s campfire.

Alex: The chores are endless!

MC, the rest of us still have some chores to finish. If we chip in some shillings, will you pick up the food for grilling?

The food vendor is close by. You can choose whatever you like!

Get enough food for six. Maya, the instructor you met this morning, will be there, of course, and our friend Anne is coming!

Lisa: Oh, that’s not Alex, that’s Linda! What a fun surprise, I didn’t know she was here as well!

Lisa: Alex, be nice. And Linda, get your nose out of that book. I want you both to meet MC.

Linda: We’ve already met. Hiya.

Alex: When did you meet?

Linda: Ages ago.

Alex: Impossible! Seems to me MC is new to the camp.

Alex: How are you feeling, MC?

MC: Where...am I?

You and SH are by the lake at the riding camp, but in a dream-like state.

MC: Is this a dream? And what’s that over there? I think it want me to follow…

You and SH follow the ghost-like …squirrel? Through the grove to a strange rune stone. Out to sea you can see giant ghost-like tentacles.

Alex: Look, before we go to Firgrove to do any more research on this John Sanman, we should try to find out where Linda is. Maybe we can find some clues if we look around here. 

This is so strange... Exactly, if Linda left of her own free wil, she would hardly have left her glasses and mobile phone behind. And what do you have there, a page from a book? Oh, look, it’s from Peter Pan... Wait - that’s Linda’s favorite book! 

I managed to get the phone turned on. Let’s check the text messages. Okay, the latest one says: “Meet me behind the stable tonight at 7pm and you will find out the truth. Come alone!” Wasn’t it behind the stable that you found Linda’s belongings? 

There’s no sender info, but we could try calling the number and see who picks up. Will you do it? The phone is on the table next to you. 

Phone: “Yes, this is Godfrey the butler speaking. Who am I talking to? Hello...? Hello?” 

Alex: Was that Godfrey?! Well, he obviously has something to do with this. Strange...We should go talk to him. Maybe this is all just a misunderstanding. I sure hope it is. 

Godfrey: Miss? What is it. I’m in a hurry, if you don’t mind. I need to...What? You called me from Linda’s phone? Must be a misunderstanding. I really can’t stay and chat, you see. I really can’t. Goodbye, miss. 

Alex: He left without answering your questions. This is getting stranger and stranger. 

You think Linda’s stuff and the book page may be the start of a trail. Hey, it may well be. You’re clever, Name! Maybe the trail will lead us to Linda? You should follow it. 

I see, the trail ends at the castle. Is that where she is, then? In the castle? It makes no sense at all, if you ask me. What? Yeah, that’s right - there have been rumors about a girl crying in the tower, but could that actually be...You know... Her? 

You know what, I need to run some errands, but here’s a really good voice recorder. Why don’t you ride to the castle and wait until the crying starts and try to get it on tape? Then we can listen to it together and try to find out whose voice it is. 

Did you hear anything? Did you get it on tape? Let me hear. 

That’s Linda’s voice. Yes, I’m sure of it. Godfrey must be keeping her locked in the castle for some reason. You need to tell The Baroness about this, she has to let us into the castle! The Baroness is out in the vineyard, ride over there and talk to her. 

The Baroness: Excuse me? I’m not letting anybody in. You don’t know what you are talking about, little girl. What happens in this castle is none of your business. You should learn to keep your little worries to yourself, or else something unfortunate may happen to you, too.

Player: That horse looks familiar! Haven’t I seen it somewhere before? It looks very distinctive with that glistening black coat and staring eyes...Creepy! 

Wait! That mysterious light. It’s the same mysterious light I saw when that masked rider came by Moorland and stole Thomas’ deeds to the stable! I need to ask someone whose horse that is. 

Tyra: What? Khaan? His owner is a girl called Sabine, she’s standing ober there. She’s rather new here. I think she came about a week ago. I remember that Linda showed her around. That must have been the last time Linda was here, by the way. I wonder what happened to her...

Was she out riding last night? In Moorland? I have no idea, ask her yourself. Doesn’t it seem a bit odd though, to be out riding in the middle of the night? 

Sabine: Um...What? I certainly have not been out riding in the middle of the night. Who are you, by the way, to come here with your stupid inquisitions? Excuse me? What are you implying here, exactly? That I was in Moorland? What would I be doing in that pathetic place when there are much better riding tracks here? You know what, you need to learn how to behave around other people, that’s for sure. You act like you’re five years old or something. Please, spare me the baby talk. 

And now you’re going to ask me about the riding track, too? Oh my God, you’re unbelievable. Just leave me alone, will you. If you feel a desperate need to bother someone, bother the stable girls. I’m sure they’re DYING to hear what you have to say. 

Tyra: The riding track? You didn’t know about that? It’s right over there, try it out if you like! 

After completing the riding track

Sabine: Well, that was...Great! Hey, I thought about the talk we had before... We didn’t get off to a very good start, did we? I guess I was feeling a little insecure or whatever. I’m new here, you know. Would it be too much to ask you for a small favor? Why don’t we start over, and get to know each other? Yeah? So what’s your name? Name? Hi, Name, I’m Sabine. Friends? 

Really? You will? Thank you! We will have so much fun together! Gosh, I’m so glad we worked that out. So what are you doing now? You don’t happen to know Justin Moorland, by any chance? You do?! That’s fantastic! 

Okay, so I’ve got this letter for Justin from a sort of unknown relative. He needs to get it but as you know, I’m not at all familiar with the land outside the manor. I’m sure I couldn’t find my way back here if I got lost! You know your way around Moorland, don’t you? What, ride there together? No way, I can’t be seen over there, not with my status. I have to the classier areas. I’m sure you understand. 

Please, ride to Moorland and give this letter to Justin! 

Justin: Hello there, long time no see! A letter for me? Seriously? From whom? 

So, you’re doing well at the manor? That’s nice. Don’t feel any pressure to come back here until they can manage without you. According to what I’ve hears they’re pretty desperate for help since that girl, Linda, disappeared. 

So, I guess I’ll open this letter then. 

Hey, wait...This is...What in the...I don’t know what to...You know what? I need to leave right away. This letter...if what it says is true...

Listen, I can’t stay. You need to tell my father that I’m going on a trip. Will you do that for me? It’s my grandfather. This seems to be really important. Tell Thomas right away! 

Thomas: Wait, wait - what are you saying? His grandfather? This can’t be true. Please don’t let this happen! Justin absolutely CANNOT see his...My...This is bad. This is really bad. 

We need to stop Justin from leaving. There’s no time to lose! 

This is nor happening! He’s gone. My son is GONE! I’ll never forgive myself for letting this happen. 

Sabine is the one who gave you the letter, you say? I don’t like that at all. Why of course I know who she is - and I know what I think and have always thought about her - she’s a dangerous, sneaky snake of a girl, that’s what she is. Been harassing my family for far too long now.  

You were saying? Well... That’s an interesting point. You’re actually saying that you think Sabine was the masked rider who stole my ownership deed? I never thought of that. I always figured it was someone from GED. That makes sense, though. That girl sure has some sort of hidden agenda involving my family. 

Listen, you should ride over to the manor and try to find out more about this. We’ll need anything we can get on this girl. 

The Baroness: Sabine? No, she left a while ago with her horse, equipment and everything. It seemed like she wasn’t planning on coming back. It’s funny as she had just paid for a full month’s rent for the stable. 

You want to know more about Sabine? Frankly, I don’t know much about the girls here in the stable. I know their names but that’s about as far my memory, or should I say interest - goes. 

Hold on - Justin, you say? I’m sorry, what? He went to see my...His...Is this a joke, dear? Because if it is, it’s not funny. 

Well, excuse me, I... I think I need a long hot bath... Immediately! GODFREY! 

Name, wait. There’s a new girl here somewhere, she has also been asking me about Sabine. Go find her and talk with her. I’m sure you will become best friends in no time. 

Alex: Hi, nice to meet you, Name! I’m Alex. Yes? I’m so glad to hear that. I’ve been trying to stop Sabine from both this and that and it’s difficult to say the least. Actually, right now, I’m trying to find a girl that used to work here but suddenly disappeared, Linda is her name. I wouldn’t be surprised if Sabine had something to do with it. 

What? You delivered a letter from Sabine to Justin? Uh-oh. That’s not good. And now they’re both gone... 

Wait. Have you ever seen Sabine’s horse, Khaan? He look really different from other horses, he has like a faint glow around him. His hoofprints look special too, almost like scorch marks. If we find any such hoofprints around here, maybe we’ll find Sabine! Start looking around the stable. 

Good work, Name! You think the tracks indicate that Sabine has gone towards Moorland? You may be right, probably to meet Justin somewhere, what do you think? 

Let’s follow the hoofprints together! It should be easier now that we both know what they look like. Let’s go! 

After racing to Moorland 

Alex: There they are! They’re leaving the island. Oh no! This can’t be happening. This is a disaster... What? No, it’s just... Those containers... Sabine is taking Justin to... You know, I’m sorry, but I really can’t say more right now. 

Listen, you should go tell Thomas about this. He’s Justin’s father and needs to know. I’ll see you again at the manor, ok? 

Thomas: Name, what’s the matter? You saw Justin? Well, did you stop him? They left on a container? Well, that’s not a nice way to travel. Oh, God, please tell me this isn’t happening. My son has been taken away! My son has been seized by the dark powers! 

Thank you for the information, Name. From now on, you should do all you can to help Alex in her search. We need to get Justin back to Moorland somehow. You’re meeting her at the manor now? Excellent. 

Alex: You told him? How did he take it? Poor Thomas! 

Ok, so, while you were in Moorland, I spoke to The Baroness and got hold of a piece of highly interesting information. The Baroness told me that Justin is her grandson which means that Thomas Moorland is her son. Who is Thomas’ father? Good question. I couldn’t get that out of her. She went on about how that didn’t matter because he’s “long dead”. 

You’re right, Name, that doesn’t make any sense. Justin claimed that he was going away to see his grandfather. Unless he is on his way to a grave, somebody is lying. 

Councilman: Good day, what can I do for you this time? Of course, the registration books are open to the public, what exactly are you looking for? Oh, the Silverglade family? Now that could be a bit tricky. You see, there was a mysterious fire in the archives some time ago in which all the Silverglade family records were destroyed. It’s certainly peculiar - I do agree with you. Strange indeed. 

However, all hope may not be lost. An old mayor kept copies if all the records in his summer house. It’s abandoned now and has been for decades - probably ruined by kids with graffiti, I don’t know but it should be pretty badly run-down. You could go there and see what you can find - perhaps you’ll get lucky. 

The house is located on the outskirts of Hollow Woods, to the southwest. 

Player: You find an old registration book about the Silverglade family line. The book is falling apart and many pages are moldy, but you find what you were searching for. When she was 18, The Baroness married a Mr. John Sandman from Firgrove. 

You better bring the book with you to the manor so that Alex can see it. 

Alex: Whoa, this book is really old, it’s practically falling apart! John Sandman, you say? I wonder who that is.
