This is really interesting.
I'm listening to Matt describe what it feels like, for Fjord to attune to his new blade, the same way he was to the falchion.
Matt's talking about how before, when Fjord used these powers, it felt like he was just borrowing things, from a dark energy (Uk'otoa). But now, it feels like that same power is no longer borrowed, but coming from within himself.
This seems to explain the reason Fjord is still able to use his warlock abilities, as a paladin.
The Wildmother is vastly more powerful than Uk'otoa. And while she didn't make Fjord a demi-god, she has essentially granted him whatever lesser amount of power that Uk'otoa was only lending to him, to make Fjord a self-sustaining warlock without a patron, and a paladin of hers, from here on.
It's worth pointing out the difference here.
Someone who cares about you, will want to make sure you can thrive in their absence, and stand on your own, and not feel scared, or dependant, or controlled.
Uk'otoa made it damed clear HE holds all the power, and Fjord needed to obey, or suffer, and be stripped of the power he had been using to survive. Taking it away to make a point, killing him slowly in his dreams.
The Wildmother could have lended her power to Fjord, and I'm sure she does. But she also gave him power that is his own.
She trusts him. She wants him to feel safe. She wants him to thrive and be happy, and do good.
So just watch out for people who insist on 'helping' you, but low-key fight you on letting you do it on your own. They don't want you to be able to function on your own. They withhold information and refuse to explain things, just saying 'here, use mine, borrow mine, you don't need your own, you don't need to worry about it.'
They want you to believe they're looking out for you, when what they really want is for you to be dependent on them. They want control and disguise it as care.
