i do think, despite veth knowing full well she needs to leave and desperately seeking permission from yeza to continue adventuring, him not hesitating to tell her to go probably hurt, even though it's exactly what she asked for/wanted. veth strikes me as a person who enjoys being wanted, especially considering her history with bullying and mistreatment, and i think it's almost flattering to her if someone wants her to stay, even to the point of selfishness. maybe especially to the point of selfishness, which builds this point of tension between yeza so graciously letting her go when she needs to (obviously necessitated by the format of the show, as a ttrg, but still) and caleb's continued and varied attempts to invent a way for her to stay with him no matter the obstacle. it's the difference between yeza saying "do you need me to tell you to go? then go" and caleb saying "and i'd hate to see you go, but that is selfish." in the same episode, even.
