I've always thought, and I still think, that Glenn kicking Sephiroth's necklace back into the lifestream was a very hot-headed and cruel action. And not to justify it, but I have a bit more complex explanation for why he possibly did that, apart from the fact that he was furious about Rosen's death.
Throughout episode 1 of First Soldier, Glenn expresses his deep care for his grandma on many occasions. We learn that he joined ShinRa's SOLDIER program to live up to his grandma's wish to become a good person and do good things. He volunteered for this mission to raise the money he needed because his grandma was hospitalized. She seemed to have needed some kind of expensive treatment, but Glenn also had debts, so he was technically in the minus financially. He refused to abort the mission no matter what happened. He regularly dreamed about her and thought about her even during battles. (He calls out to his granny during one of his limit breaks.)
Of course, I don't know the details of their contracts, but it's very possible that if they hadn't defied orders, they could still have gotten at least some of the money because they did their part of the job, and the land becoming unstable was out of their control.
But then, after being disappointed in himself and all the killings he had done in Rhadore, he threw all his hopes of getting even a cent of reward money out in the trash, to save only one boy.
Glenn indirectly let his grandma die (or, well, let her be without treatment, which could possibly lead to her death) to save Rosen, but Sephiroth killed Rosen.
So when Sephiroth kills Rosen, he makes the sacrifice Glenn made to save him meaningless. This might not be the most crucial aspect of the whole event, but it adds to the guilt and anguish Glenn faced at that time.
I wish Glenn had taken Sephiroth away from ShinRa when they deserted, but we don't know the details; maybe it was impossible. Or maybe he didn't trust him enough at that time. Either way, they had the potential to become great friends and allies, and I believe that had Glenn lived longer, he would have been the most logical choice for Sephiroth to turn to when he wanted to abandon ShinRa.
