Miraculous Zag

I was gonna spend my break day relaxing. Maybe take a walk. Finish watching “Our Flag Means Death”, but nah I wanted to draw Lila instead.

Just exploring variations of her suit until I find something I love. I’m also working on a redeemed Lila civilian look. Two words: Pinstripes and corduroy.

I disagree.

I think that we just hyper focus on the romance because we see things from Marinette’s perspective. Who puts things in a more romantic light.

But if we really look at it.

Things Adrien has done for his friend Marinette:

- Made her a friendship bracelet,

- Encouraged her designing on multiple occasions (even modeling her designs when asked)

-Enjoyed hanging out during partycrasher

- Went all over London to get her a prescription he thought she needed.

-Tried to improve their relationship by playing a fun prank (it backfired but it showed he was trying)

-Adrien calling her an everyday Ladybug.

-Letting her sleep on his shoulder when she was exhausted.

-Stood up for her multiple times against Lila and Chloé.

-Threatened Lila

-Was willing to give up his seat for Marinette (in a gaming tournament and in the classroom)

And those are just several examples.

Now in Marinette’s case we don't always see her actions from a purely platonic standpoint. But how about we focus on the actions in which she puts his needs above her romantic gestures (I.E. Because it made him happy/helped him out with little to no gain)

-Marinette didn't tell Adrien she made him the scarf.

-Marinette helped Adrien escape his crazy fans.

-Marinette stood up to Gabriel to let him go on the America trip and encouraged him to try and come along. (Which would have made things harder for her to get over him. But still)

-Marinette giving Adrien advice with Kagami DESPITE it hurting her feelings.

-Backing away so Kagami and Adrien could get romance ice cream. (Twice)

There is also a couple more but I will say.

Just like the production of the movie "Solitude" that Adrien and Marinette went to see in the episode "Gorizilla"

Am I the only one who realized the only reason why Adrien started dating Marinette was BECAUSE she was Ladybug?

Gabriel was the reason the relationship fell apart, but I feel like if we were shown the relationship in full detail rather than that little montage we got, I think it would be more obvious than it is that both Marinette and Adrien still have each other on this unhealthy pedestal that they don’t realize (We all saw Marinette sniffing his pillow, right?). So while everyone sees them as this perfectly happy couple in the show, we as the audience would see the problems with the relationship if it was shown to us.

This is why I don’t want canon Love Square until Adrien and Marinette see each other as actual people instead of idolizing each other. Reveals would be great, but as we saw, Marinette’s reveal led to Adrienette being canon with both parties still in need of development, and I don’t want that. We know they’re soulmates, we know the Love Square will be canon, but this isn’t the right time.

As the show currently stands, Chat Noir isn't actually necessary. Like...yes, he takes the hits for LB at times, and he helps in fights and eases her burdens, but at the end of the day LB has on multiple occasions done things on her own, if not outright also fighting Chat too.

This isn't to say that this couldn't work as a narrative. There's nothing wrong with having a team of heroes who don't *need* to be fighting together to succeed, but *wanting* to.

The problem is that the showrunners insist they're on an equal standing while constantly showing that this isn't the case. This is especially grating because the show is always on about the black cat and ladybug miraculous being a set pair, yin and yang, destruction and creation, a balanced set meant to be put into play together. But only Ladybug is 'necessary' to deal with Akuma, which immediately throws things OUT of balance.
