Akai was laughing, a genuine one no one had heard from him in months. He easily adjusted the fabric of Akemi‘s sweater. It was his. It was also the same one Akai gave Jodie when they were together.

‘‘It looks better on her anyways.‘‘ Jodie swallowed hard, gazing down at her cream-colored coat. Akemi had such a bright smile she knew she could never replicate.

Akai‘s new girlfriend looked like a real angel sent from heaven. She was literally glowing with pure innocence and beauty.

Jodie watched as Akai put his shoulder around Akemi to pull her closer and keep warm. ‘‘Cold?‘‘ he asked. ‘‘A little.. but your sweater keeps me warm!‘‘ Akemi softly answered, her eyes squinting as she smiled.

Jodie‘s hands in her pockets only seemed to dig deeper. She wanted to leave, but then again the café she wanted to go to was right behind the fountain where they were sitting.

Retreating only meant she was weak. ‘‘I‘m an FBI agent,‘‘ she thought, ‘‘I‘ve been in worse scenarios than this... I can do it..‘‘ she spoke in her mind.

Jodie took an exaggerated deep breath and began to walk straight forward, eyes locked onto the coffee shop infront.

Through the corner of her eye, she saw Akai pull Akemi into the warmest hug ever, something he never would‘ve done to Jodie. Akemi‘s face was blushing as she hugged him back. Jodie could only close her eyes and let tears form, slightly ruining her makeup.

Thankfully, Jodie entered the café and managed to not have a breakdown. She chose a seat far away enough so she couldn‘t see those two annoying lovebirds.

Her knees felt weak and sank just as she sat down, arms trembling as she barely held the menu. ‘‘Miss.. are you okay?‘‘ the waiter concerningly asked ‘‘Oh, yeah I‘m fine.. it‘s just really chilly today you know!‘‘

Jodie lied, even though she was literally wearing a big coat with fuzzy boots and earmuffs.

After eating, she got another takeout coffee. With her head low, she walked out of the café biting her tongue so hard you could see teeth marks on it.

She hadn‘t even took 3 steps out and she already bumped into a person. ‘‘Great!‘‘ she thought, ‘‘It really is my lucky day, isnt it?‘‘ Jodie stated in her mind, full of sarcasm.

‘‘Im so sorry!!‘‘ the person apologised. Both of their eyes met. ‘‘N-NATSUKO!! OH HOW GREAT IT IS TO SEE YOU!!‘‘ Jodie said loud enough for Akai to hear. She knew he saw her. And he didn‘t even do anything about it..

Jodie took her hand out of her coat pocket and threw her arm around Natsuko. ‘‘Oh you WON‘T believe the absolute happiest week i‘ve had! Come on, lets go take a stroll!‘‘ Jodie exclaimed.

Natsuko adjusted herself, confused by her friend‘s sudden outburst of energy. ‘‘J-Jodie.. are you okay?..‘‘

‘‘Mm? Of course I am! I loooove the winter! It just make me so happy‘‘ Jodie replied in the least convincing way, as if she didn‘t want to scream and cry already.

By the corner of her eye, she hoped, than even just the tiniest bit that Akai was looking at her... But no. His eyes were fixated onto Akemi‘s as she talked. The same eyes that used to lovingly look at her that way.

Jodie‘s heart sank. Even when she was forcing herself to be the loudest she can so he could at least acknowledge her, all he could hear was the soft calming voice of his lovely Akemi.

The stars in the night sky twinkiled just as Jodie thought she had finally escaped the emotional hell from earlier, a message lit up on her screen.

Her eyes red and and nose puffy as she sniffled while reading the message:

‘‘You looked really happy today. Glad to see you‘re doing well.‘‘

A bitter smile rose, and a chuckle escaped from her lips. Tears rolling down her cheek as she realised how stupid Akai was to be completely fooled by the cheerful disguise she put up.

She couldn‘t believe it, how easily he was convinced she was doing okay. Okay!? When everyday all she could think of was for her dramatically begging him to stay.

‘‘But then again..‘‘ she realised how he was probably distracted by his perfect little angel to properly deduce what ever hell was going on in her heart.

I don‘t understand how you can keep your cool all the time. You look at me for a second and now I won‘t let this interaction leave my mind. You smile so brightly all the time, but I wish I was the one making your expression like that.

When you think of me, you think of me as an amazing biochemist, a partner, and a victim.

But you never think of me.

Do you see me only as your errand girl? One of your baker street irregulars? Maybe you even just see me as Sherry, the cruel woman who made a perfect murder weapon with untraceable poison.

I feel so guilty for catching feelings for you because you treat me such with genuine trust. My feelings feel like a betrayal of our friendship.

I was so wrong when I thought escaping the organization was my number one priority. Now it‘s so stupid to think trying to discard my love for you is.

Sometimes I really do forget the times where you protect me are truly platonic. Although I really wish from the bottom of my heart that you felt a little spark there. What am I even saying!?

How can you just casually brush your shoulders against mine? Oh, you just wanted to see info on my laptop Kudo-kun...

I love it when you say you can count on me. It makes me feel just a little bit closer to your heart. But it also makes me realise how you value me but only as a close ally.

I wish I could just perfect the permanent antidote already so you can go run up to her and live the rest of your lives together.

I‘ll just learn the hard, painful way. Even if it takes me years, i‘ll do ANYTHING to kill those butterflies in my stomach and to just forget everything i felt for you.

Maybe i‘ll find someone who admires me the way I admire you. But truthfully... I wish it was you..

I hope I can build you your bridge back to her, brick by brick with my own blood and tears, so you can spend a happily ever after with her.

After leaving her car parked a few yards away, she takes out her umbrella and starts walking over the same spot where her ex, Shuichi Akai, and former FBI member died.

Jodie stops, her body shivering from the cold. A chill runs down her spine. She wasn‘t there when he died, but she still felt nostalgic over the thought that he had spent his final moments of his dangerous life here.

The pure white umbrella in her hand slips – as she can‘t keep her feelings locked away forever. Her knees hit the ground, tears following right after. With hands on her face as she sobs: ‘‘Shu.. why did you leave me.. but permanently this time?‘‘ she sniffs. Her voice was hoarse and her nose made her look like rudolph the reindeer‘s lost sister.

Her and the pitch black sky were crying together. Almost as if they were harmonizing eachother‘s voices.

A few meters away from her was a pink-haired graduate student. His glasses were fogged up, staring at the helpless woman on the other side of the road.

Jodie‘s sniffling stops as she realises the heavy rain seemed to miraculously stop above her. Her eyes locking onto a man who shielded her with his umbrella.

‘‘I‘m sorry, I just couldn‘t keep you freezing cold tonight.‘‘ his free hand leaving his pocket to help her get up. ‘‘T-thank you...‘‘ she replies, a bit embarrassed.

‘‘What are you doing alone on Raiha Pass?‘‘ Jodie questions him. ‘‘Oh, I was just a bit stressed lately. You see, going out for late-night drives calms my mind.‘‘ answered the strange man.

To flip the table onto her, he asks her: ‘‘Well, what about you? Why were you bawling your eyes out here?‘‘ while Jodie is frantically searching for an excuse, the guy breaks the silence by saying ‘‘I could hear you practically screaming from my car. I just wanted to make sure you were okay.‘‘

She blinks, unable to search for a reply. When a car passing by lights the dim road, she now clearly saw his face. ‘‘Wait, are you the guy I bumped into at the Beika Department Store sometime ago??‘‘ She gasps.

A smirk appears on said‘s face. ‘‘Oh, if you know me then I owe you my name. I‘m Subaru Okiya, I study at Tohto University.‘‘ Subaru offers her his hand to shake. ‘‘You‘re not Japanese, aren‘t you?‘‘

‘‘Mhm... American. I‘m just... visiting here you know..?‘‘ The woman muttered. ‘‘My name is... Jodie.. Saintemillion..! I actually worked as an English teacher in Tokyo before.. haha..‘‘ Jodie declared following with an awkward laugh.

Subaru‘s eye opens a bit, allowing him to see the woman who was lying right infront of him.
