Well I accidentally deleted the wrong Minecraft world and now I’m depressed. I was gathering a sheep collection in that world.
Does anyone have any weird Minecraft seeds to check out
One of these has the moral standing of a cartoon villain, the other might save the country.
Welcome to British politics.
Well that's not staying in the tags
I keep starting new Minecraft worlds with the idea that I’m gonna build a model village or something but then I get distracted trying to collect different colors of sheep or something
Today’s distraction was trying to cut down an entire forest. Why am I doing this? I don’t know. I have multiple boxes full of logs though.
I never really fully got over that urge I had the first time I ever played Minecraft to just level an entire mountain with my bare hands just because I could. Dangerous game to have when you’re prone to just dicking around.
Do you have any advice or tips for Minecraft? I was slightly too old to get really into it when it first came out so never really played it but I'm trying it out now bc my partner is really into it. I like building stuff in creative but I want to try survival and have basically no idea what I should be doing
If you want some help, there’s a setting you can toggle in advanced settings when you make your new world that’ll give you a chest to start out with that has some random starting supplies. Usually some wood, tools, food, saplings. That kind of thing.
Basically the first thing you should figure out in survival mode though is how to survive the night because that’s when monsters start spawning everywhere.
The classic thing to do is put together your first base. For that you’ll need a bed, a crafting bench, and usually some kind of shelter. Though between you and me, if you enter your bed early enough in the night before the monsters find you it’s usually fine to not have a shelter. To make a bed you need three wool of the same color and three planks of wood. You might also steal a bed from a village if you’re lucky enough to find one.
A bed also works as a spawn point, meaning that if you die you’ll spawn there again. If you know you’ll be doing something dangerous it might be good to bring a bed with you so you can set up a spawn point somewhere you can get to your stuff faster because if you die you drop all your stuff.
If you can’t find the stuff to make a bed or if you don’t want to, I’ve personally found that another valid way to survive through your first night is to make a sword and just never stop moving all night. Just keep running while you search for the wool you need for your bed. You can likely dodge most threats if you don’t get yourself caught somewhere.
The next thing you need to worry about in survival mode is food. It’s how you can heal yourself and on normal or hard difficulty being hungry can deplete your health down to zero.
There’s several ways to get food. The easiest is to steal some from a village. Villages are also a great place to get seeds for farming. If you can’t find a village though, there’s other ways.
Break up random patches of grass in the world to get wheat seeds. This lets you grow wheat if you use a hoe to right click or left trigger on some dirt.
Wheat can’t be eaten but it can be turned into bread or some other recipes or used to breed sheep or cows to kill for meat and the seeds can breed chickens
Sometimes you’ll find melons. These can be broken down into seeds in your crafting menu for farming
Pigs are bred with raw root vegetables like beets, carrots, and potatoes. Sometimes a killed zombie will drop a carrot or potato you can plant
Fishing! You can make a fishing rod with two string from a killed spider and a stick and sometimes killed zombies will drop one
Raw meat and potatoes can be made better by cooking them. They can be cooked in a furnace or on a campfire. A campfire doesn’t burn through any of your fuel to keep going but it’s generally slower because you can only cook four things at a time on it
Once you have food and shelter covered, basically do whatever you want. It’s a good idea to have a sword with you but not strictly necessary if you run away fast enough. You need to gather your own things to build anything in survival mode but in my opinion that’s what makes it fun.
And if the monsters and getting hungry part intimidates you, you can always play on peaceful mode or turn on cheats in advanced settings.

you put those tags on this post where they belong
I’ve looked into getting German citizenship recently but unfortunately my ancestors left the old country around the time when they would’ve had to register at a consulate to keep their German citizenship.
And when I asked my genealogy family members if they ever did that their reaction was basically “No? When the fuck would they have time to do that?”
Mom has German ancestry but I know for a fact they came here early so there's no way I could apply for that.
Dad has Irish but that also goes back so far I couldn't tell you when they immigrated, long ago enough I have like... 5% Shawnee blood. (Not that it matters I'm white as shit.)
So American is all I have.
... groan.
Do you... need to be from the country in order to move there? Or is getting citizenship different?
Citizenship is different, you can live somewhere and not be a citizen, and you may lack the right to vote or other things if you're not.
So citizenship isn't part of the moving process? I always thought it was.
In most countries you can get what’s called a visa that allows you to do certain things for a certain amount of time.
A tourist visa lets you stay and do tourist activities for example but not work or go to school. A student visa allows you to stay for school and may or may not allow you to work as well. A work visa is usually for letting people do a certain job and needs to be renewed regularly. A family visa allows spouses, children, and sometimes parents and siblings to come to a country with their family member that lives there legally and work and go to school.
Most countries allow you to apply for permanent residence once you’ve legally lived there for a certain number of years. It can be as low as three years in a place like Canada or as long as ten years in a place like Switzerland. I believe that in Germany it’s eight years but I could be remembering wrong.
Some countries don’t allow any outsiders to become a citizen unless their parents are citizens. Some let you apply as soon as you get permanent residence. Some have long wait times or make you wait for a certain amount of time. Some might even require you to be married to a citizen first.
Some countries only let you get citizenship if you give up your old citizenship, some recognize dual citizenship, and some just pretend like your other citizenship doesn’t exist.
I decided to start a Minecraft forever world and somehow lucked out and got cherry blossoms, savannah, and grasslands all next to each other with an icy mountain off in the distance and a village nearby. I never get spawns this good.
Thank you so much for the advice!! I have some basic knowledge of crafting thanks to cultural osmosis but you gave some really solid beginner tips and I now have a basic lil farmhouse with a bed, furnaces, wheat farm and a few chickens and sheep.
I guess my next question is...is there any indicator or general advice as to tracking down resources? I can find coal easily enough on the surface but my spawn area doesn't have much in the way of natural caves and I think my next real goal is finding iron to upgrade my tools. Perhaps also a village to trade with.
You can find guides online about where certain types of ore spawn. You can dig down blindly and make yourself a mine to look for yourself or you can turn on coordinates in your advanced settings to see what level you’re on. Turning on coordinates is also helpful in keeping track of where your base is because you can write down where certain things are.
Where things tend to spawn changes between updates sometimes so when you’re looking for guides, the more recent ones are likely better.
Remember to not dig straight down or straight up because there’s dangerous stuff like lava in there.
"Oh yeah, we have an outdoor Corgi, he just gets so bored cooped up inside all day. He knows to stay off the road. Don't worry, he's way too smart for coyotes and the neighbor's know to look out when they drive past."
"Us? Oh, of *course* our Dachshund sleeps inside- we just let him out in the morning and make sure he comes back for dinner. He just does his own thing, no worries."
"Um, you know it's not humane to keep a chihuahua confined to an apartment? They're dogs, they're natural predators. They need to experience hunting behaviors or they get depressed. No we don't leash ours, he absolutely hates it, we just let him come and go whenever."
Yall get how fucking stupid that sounds, right? So stop letting your goddamn cats get eaten and attacked and infected and hit by cars
A toddler would probably love full unattended access to the neighborhood too, but we don't do that either, do we
It's 2026, "keep your damn pet in a house or in your view" should not be controversial
I had to go on a hunt for this but it was worth it. 100% agree

Someone got caught off-guard
Imagine if you were floating alone in space for nearly 50 years after all your friends went to sleep and never woke up, and just when all hope seems to be lost another ship appears this weird-ass alien pops out with all this tech, somehow starts TALKING to you with said tech, and promises to help you - DOES help you, and even sacrifices his chance to go home to save you and your people - and then you find out that his name means “mercy” in his home language ???
Shit, dude, I’d have assumed God himself was sending me a message.
