the internet has gotten neutered. (fandoms and the internet)
i know thats a weird title but please read if you have the time. if not, save this post/bookmark it on your browser. sorry for any contradictions or mistakes, by the end you'll get my point hopefully.
hello im someone who started using the internet in 2009 and have been researching for over 17 years worth of careful (ever so slightly biased) observation.
what the fuck are you guys doing anymore
maybe im looking in the wrong places but is it just me or socializing has become a thing where you need to take the time out for it??
like, predating 2015, everyone used to be social or if not their own individual. i cannot be the only one who sees the fact that everyone feels the same, especially in fandom spaces. everyone talks the same, draws the same, acts the same.. etc. there's really something going on and i do not like it not one bit.
im in fact pissed, because it feels like things should not be like this. i feel like im LOSING it with how this isnt talked about????
i prefer when everything felt more free, judge free to put it in easier terms. i dont know when was the last time i saw people doing certain fandom things like making songs, cosplaying, socializing, going to cons, etc.. i feel like fandoms peaked between the early 90s and allll the way up to 2014. anything afterwards people started to turn bitter, being more concerned with not being "Cringe" or whatever and leaving certain fandoms because of some things going wrong.
the "cool thing" to do these days is to either obsess over something you liked in your youth even if you hate it now, or to hate something in your youth because "you were cringe!!" or yknow.. just be more freakin' open-minded like you once were and stop worrying over small stuff?
you built those experiences and friendships when you were most likely doing the right thing, which is exploring yourself and being yourself. the stupidest people these days are being okay with being stupid and not exploring yourself because being depressed is cooler even though you just said you were happier when you were younger.
theres a reason people turn out the way they are, and its because they listen to others way to damn much.
i have not (what people say) "grown out of my teen phase". i'm not an emo or anything(though i wouldnt care if people considered me one because no doubt i can be emo lol) but i'm going well into being a fully grown woman and i have nothing but admiration for how i handled everything in my youth.
The best way to recover from something is to be aware it happened, and learn from it any way you can. because why do you give a shit about being "cringe" when the world already has too many issues? why don't you just be yourself and let loose of all these masks you're trying so hard to keep on?
you're drawing like everyone else most likely bcause you don't wanna be left out of the ugliest most repetitive art i have seen in the past 2020s, you wanna speak like others in the most obnoxious way because thats "the cool thing to do", you dont wanna act like yourself because you suck or something, but why do you give a shit THAT much to transform your life around someone who doesnt even know you and knows whats best for you?
and im not some scrooge who is waving their cane telling kids to live like its the fucking medieval times, im simply trying to turn people into their true selves in the most comfortable way possible. and whenever i see a person i like online just start drawing and/or talking like everyone else, its just another wasted potential thrown into the pile of rising stars that could've been the new sun. but now suck themselves inward that are now black holes of their former selves, sucking in whatever garbage they see on the internet.
depressing that theres ever a rare occasion where someone i know is not one of these people, but theyre most likely gone and will never come back.
on one of my searches, i found 2012 to be the biggest year for the internet imo, for things like tumblr and fandoms most of all. im not gona sit here and say everyone from back then was innocent because god knows thats a straight up lie, but if you go back to see a lot of things theres so many differences you'll lose track. one of the biggest..
is a little something you kids forgot about, it's called "sharing"
yeah news flash this isnt fucking ticktock.
Most posts ive discovered from that year have the same amount, if not MORE reblogs than likes?? and that made me both happy and sad. happy because everybody was getting good attention to their page and everyone was happy, and sad that this is something that died out unless you're on asian social media. In fact, that part of social media is probably the only part thats unneutered ..mostly..
But for better or for worse, they dont give a shit what they post. they just do whatever the hell comes to them and they post it. i used to hang out with plenty of these people, japanese, korean, chinese, any of them. not just them but other people such as germans or french, it doesnt matter. Whatever their from, any of them that werent tainted from this american culture of pressuring yourself to be different even if you hate it were always kind and awesome people. If you get that in america you'd be called a y2k person or whatever the fuck. not ALL of them are, dont get me wrong here.
I simply want the internet to change for the better, i know not EVERYONE is gonna be different but come the fuck on, you guys can do better than this.
How to start?: its simple really, start by clearing out any negative things from your life. even if that means starting over with your internet profile. stop watching short videos if you do that because youre just rotting your brain. start going outside more and enjoying life, go make some irl friends(finding friends from online is cool as well), start collections of stuff you find outside or in stores, make your art style more original, start JUST focusing on improving your OWN art and writing, get a pet maybe(depending on allergies n other stuff but having pets made me happier), get new hobbies, share people's stuff around online that is ART and WRITING and not dumb ticktock videos people have seen 1000 times (if you wanna keep your page clean start a fresh one for reblogs),find new styles, listen to different music you'd usually never listen to, eat healthier(the hardest lol), etc..
you get my point, try for yourself. not others.
please share this post around. this isn't as long as i was hoping but hopefully this reaches SOME people, feel free to send comments and asks on the matter or advice cause i CAN and WILL go into more detail about this.
