BATTLE REPORT:
Following clandestine Operations by (unconfirmed Union paid) mercenaries resulting in the destruction of Key Colonial Infrastructure, the Union of Fortified Planets has landed forces to "provide aid to the struggling Colony" on the Confederate Border World of Veta IV. The Confederacy, in an attempt to show they will not bow to this clear violation of their newly settled territory, have deployed additional Marines as a quick reaction force should the Union attempt a seizure of the Colony or the removal of the Colony to begin extraction of the valuable resources found on the planet.
1LT Alvarez of the CRAMC (Confederated Republics of Antares Marine Corps) is chosen to secure positions on the outskirts of the Colonial Capital City, Savannah. She has been given a Platoon Plus Sized element of an elite squad of up-armoured Roughnecks, an ill-tempered Demolitions squad, and two squads of Roughnecks with heavy support weapons. Additionally a squad from the Local Colonial Police Precinct has been requisitioned off the record through the liberal exchanging of contraband (Alcohol).
Meanwhile, CPT Morden of the UFPAF (Union of Fortified Planets Armed Forces) has been tasked by Governor Morden of the neighboring Sector to set up a Forward Operating Base in the Capital to begin "Evacuation Efforts". This base is to be setup in the outskirts, and is being done so without the permission of the Colonial Authority or the Confederacy with the hopes that it will cause the Locals to start a firefight and give legitimacy to Union claims on this world. CPT Morden has been put in command of a Force Recon element of the 95th Rifles. This element is manned by one Squad of Regular Union Infantry, who are making their way through the City in a public display of solidarity and cooperation, two squads of Auxiliary Infantry, and four Recon Teams, two of whom are sniper teams.
Round 1: Upon arrival at the outskirts, 1LT Alvarez immediately identifies units of the UFPAF down the block and moves to secure as much of the block as she can without causing a diplomatic incident. CPT Morden's Forces move quick and secure roof top positions at the far end of the street and move to secure the habitation block. CPT Morden himself has not yet arrived in the AO, and has only just got word that there is an altercation brewing with his Detachment and begins moving to the scene, making a show of it and attracting galactic press to him.
Round 2: Recon elements finish taking up positions directly in front of the Marines and begin preparing for a fight, the Hab Block, Diner, General Store, and a Secondary Service Road are all secured by the 95th Rifles. The Marines secure the Main Service Road and begin to maneuver to try and bluff the Union Forces from their positions. The inebriated Police Officers are put in reserve to maintain control of the MSR.
Round 3: 95th Rifles Sniper team secures the roof of the Clinic, no other major movements are taken by the 95th. 1LT Alvarez and her up-armored Roughnecks prepare to storm the Clinic in order to force the Recon Team to disengage. Marine elements attempting to cross the road towards the Hab Block spot the Recon Team in the General Store and radio 1LT Alvarez to advice on their situation, she does not respond. The other Squad of Marines begin moving towards the Alleyway into the Hab Block. The Demolitions team moves to assist the LT and the Police remain at the MSR.
Round 4: CPT Morden arrives at the MSR where the Squad of Police is, reporters are in toe asking why there are two armed detachments of Military facing off with each other in the middle of a Crisis. No other actions are taken by the 95th Rifles. The Squad of Police move to intercept CPT Morden and prevent him from advancing any further, they only succeed at heightening tensions. 1LT Alvarez moves up into the Clinic and attempts to disarm or dissuade the Sniper Team on the Roof but this attempt is unsuccessful. The Marines attempting to cross the street radio over to 1LT Alvarez for instructions and are met again with radio silence. The Other Marine Squad Moves through the Alleyway and are now face to face with the Union Auxiliary in the Hab Block. The Demo team sees the commotion between the Police and the Union Infantry and move to back up the Police.
Round 5: CPT Morden begins hurling insults at the Police and the Demolitions squad. The rest of the 95th Rifles are dug in and prepared they do not take any actions. 1LT Alvarez attempts one more time to get the Sniper team to surrender, and finally radios the Marines attempting to cross towards the General Store and tells them to force the position and move up. The Marines in the Hab Block get face to face with the Irregulars, trying to scare them off. The Police begin to fall back from CPT Morden's Regulars, when the Demolitions team advances to them and begins a brawl, the NCO of the Demolitions Squad pulls their service pistol on the Regulars, killing one.
+5 Points to the UFPAF for not breaking the "Ceasefire"
Round 6: 95th Rifles spring into action and begin opening fire on Marines in the street and Hab Block, no casualties are taken by the Marines, but returning fire takes out several members of the Recon Team and the Auxiliary. The Sniper Team on the roof of the Clinic open fire at 1LT Alvarez but their shots go wide and they are cut down by returning fire. CPT Morden's Regulars fire on the Demolitions team causing casualties. Alvarez and her Roughnecks move towards the other side of the Clinic roof and open fire on the Auxiliary in the street, half of the squad becomes casualties, the rest flee. Marines in the Street close distance with the General Store and lob grenades onto the roof, eliminating the remnants of the Recon Team. Marines in the Hab Block open fire point blank at the Auxiliary and cause heavy casualties, returning fire causes no harm to the Marines. Police Open Fire on the Regulars but cause no casualties and take heavy losses in return. The Demolitions team closes distance again with the Regulars, killing three, and forcing them back with no casualties.
Round 7: CPT Morden's Regulars open fire again on the Demolition Team, cutting them down. The Hab Block Auxiliary open fire at the Marines and cause light casualties, with Heavy losses in return. The Sniper Team overlooking the Dinner opens fire on the Marines at the Hab Block but are unable to cause any casualties. The Marines in the Hab block force the rest of the Auxiliary to flee, and the Marines at the General Store finish securing their newly won position. The Police Do not attempt to stop CPT Morden as he begins to Exfill, having gotten what he really wanted. Reporters flood the scene and 1LT Alvarez has a lot to answer for.
Conclusion: an excellent continuation of our Campaign even if it had been long enough between games that we forgot what officers we rolled the first time. If this Mission was about stacking bodies like firewood, I would have been in good standings, unfortunately I brought trigger happy nutjobs to a tense situation. Already have our next campaign day set, so stay tuned for more.
Note: First game in campaign wasn't posted here, but is summarized early on in report. The Battle Report wasn't as in-depth anyway.
