“Hello welcome in!” You called out to whoever had just walked through the door. There wasn’t a rush persay but a huge group of people had just come in and of course everyone ordered a drink and a snack like it was no bigie. So now you are enjoying the calm after the storm in your nice peacful cafe. When you turn around to see who walked through the door you are met with a man and a woman.

The woman has pretty, long, red hair put into a neat braid down her back, she wore a smile on her face but a strong presence. While the man has a short hair doo and kinda seemed to be a little awkward around the woman, who knows.

“How are you guys doing today?” You ask politely to the two people in business professional clothing. The woman greets you with a warm smile and the man takes out a paper from his pocket glancing over it.

“Good how’re you?” The woman engages in pleasentries which is more than you usually get from customers, especially those who look all professional like these guys.

“Can’t complain!” You exclaim but the tiredness in your voice is hard to cover.

“We have a… weird request,” The woman starts, looking over at the man whos stuffing the paper back into his pocket.

“You’re y/n right?” She asks to which you nod your head even though this interaction is getting stranger by the minute.

“Yup that’s me,” You state proudly but skeptical.

“Our friend Jane is sick and is being a baby about it and said he wanted us to come here so you can make him some tea.” The man says, he seems exshausted and it humors you to think it might be because of Patrick ‘being a baby about it’.

“Well our friend comes in her quite a bit and he has a request because he can’t come in himself at the moment-” She starts to over explain but the man cuts her off.

You start to put the pieces together, Patrick specifically asked his coworkers to come here to see you so you could make him some tea because he is sick. Talk about being flattered.

“Did he have something specific that he wanted?” You ask clicking through the menu to give yourself a reminder of the teas he has enjoyed in the past.

“Oh you’re Patrick’s CBI friends,” You smile at them, Patrick has told you about who he works with before and you are putting together that this must be Rigsby and Vanpelt.

“Nope just said ‘have her surprise me’ and sent us here.” The man who you are assuming is Rigsby says with that same exhausted tone as before.

“Anything for the two of you?” You ask politely to which they take turns ordering different coffees, you remember their order from when Patrick has gotten coffee before.

“Well I can certainly do that,” You thought to yourself for a moment before inputting a tea he had thoroughly enjoyed the week prior to this. You reached over for a cup while grabbing a sharpie to write on the cup. You looked back up at the two agents in front of you.

“Thank you so much! I’ll have those drinks right out for you guys.” You smile and turn around to get to brewing the tea for Patrick and pouring the coffee for the two agents.

“Alright that going to be all for you guys today?” The agents nod their heads and Rigsby takes out a card to pay while you make small talk with Vanpelt. Shes very kind and compliments your hair to which you tell her hers is stunning. It’s nice to talk with the people you’ve heard so much about from your talks with Patrick.

“I can see why he talks about her all the time,” Vanpelt comments to Rigsby who’s pulling out his phone to text Cho they should be back to the office soon enough.

“Yeah obviously, I mean him coming in all the time, talking about her, it makes sense you know. She seems great.” Vanpelt says while looking over at you as you work.

“Who Jane?” Rigsby asks and looks up from his phone to you and then to Vanpelt. He finds a spot to sit as he types on his phone. Vanpelt finds a spot next to him.

“We are grown adults we do not ‘crush’, he likes her,” the agent elbows Rigsby in the side while she talks.

“Yeah dude is totally crushing.” Rigsby says still not fully engaged. Vanpelt rolls her eyes.

“It’s good for him.” Vanpelt has a genuine kindness in her voice that catches Rigsby’s attention.

“Here you guys go sorry about that wait,” you say handing off the drinks to Rigsby who put his hands out to grab it.

“Yeah it really is,” he says finally putting his phone down and giving Vanpelt attention, “I just hope he actually does something one of these days.” Rigsby laughs to himself thinking back to all those times Patrick told him about how he had perfected the art of ‘seducing women’ and was giving him crap for not asking Vanpelt out and now here he is playing the long game with a random Barista he met a few months ago like hes a lover boy. The conversation drifted off to other things and eventually you were walking out with their drinks in a carrier.

“Oh no problem at all, have a good day.” Vanpelt says kindly as her and her partner turn to walk out the shop.

“Say ‘hi’ to Patrick for me, I hope he starts feeling better!” You call out to them as they leave and Vanpelt gives you a smile while Rigsby nods your direction in a goodbye sort of way.

When the two agents finally walked through the doors to the CBI building and into their open office they were met with the same sick Patrick Jane rotting on his couch. He was surrounded by tissues that were haphazardly thrown into a trash can that sat next to him. Vanpelt makes her way to Patrick while Rigsby head over to Cho with both their coffees. When Vanpelt walks over to Patrick with the tea he peeks one eye open to look at her.

“Oh Vanpelt you’ve saved me.” The man says with the same congested gross voice he’s had all day. Slowly - and what looked like painfully - Patrick sits up with a groan.

“Yeah yeah,” The red head says covering her mouth with her hand as if it’d held protect her from all of Patrick’s sick germs. She handed him the large hot cup of tea you had brewed for him and took a step back away from him.

“Oh your barista friend says “hi” and she hopes you feel better.” Patrick hears from behind him coming from Rigsby and even though Patrick can’t see him he knows hes got a grin on his face from the teasing.

A smile reaches the poor sick mans face as he takes in the warm aroma from his tea. The smile on his face widens when he read the message written on his cup: “For my favorite sick Not-Psychic”. Patrick takes a sip of the tea and it’s warmth washes over him in a delightful flood of peppermint.

“How is he?” You worriedly ask your Queen, and kinda mother in law Penelope. You’re soon to be husband Telemachus had fallen ill only a few days prior. You of course were worried sick for him, maybe it was because the prince looked as if he was on his death bed every time you visited him.

Telemachus needed to eat and you knew an old family recipe for soup and alothough Penelope tried having servants fetch the ingrediants you denied wanting to get them yourself. This brings you to now, Telemachus was still in his chambers when you came rushing into the palace.

“The same as when you left him dear.” The queen spoke absent mindedly as she wove thread in and around eachother. “You are far to worried, he is simpply acting as if he is a baby with a fever.” You roll your eyes and are thankful she cannot see them.

“I still worry.” You say adn you hear Penelope chuckle.

"Of course of course,” The queen says with a fond smile adorning her face. “The kitchen if yours to use.” She says and you take that as your que to get to work, with a bow you head out to the kitchen.

It doesn’t take long to craft the soup together and as much as you wish to see Telemachus you know finishing the food first is smart. You enjoy cooking, find it calming and relaxing. When the warm stew is finally done you know for a fact it could heal your prince all on it’s own.

“I’m not eating.” You hear for what was probably the fith time in the span of a few minutes. You ever knew Telemachus could be so…5stuborn5.

“For the last time dear,” You teeth grate together while you hold the warm bowl of soup by Telemachus’s bedside. “This is going to make you feel better not worse.”

Your soon to be husband rolls over to his side facing away from you. Maybe Penelope was right, Telemachus really is a baby with a fever.

“I feel as if I am sick to my stomach and am going to puke any second why would I want to eat?” Asks as if it was a simple concept and you were being foolish not him.

“I understand Telemachus, but there is a chance you are feeling that way because you haven’t eaten and this is garunteeded to make you better.” It’s your last hope explaining to you fiance why he needed to eat and if he didn’t listen you’d just have to force him.

“That makes no sense y/n.” The prince basically whines. How could such a strong man and leader be acting so childish? Who knows? But with that you set the cooling down soup off to a side table and pull his shoulder against a little resistance so he is laying flat on his back. You then pull him to be sitting up right, before he can question what you are doing a spoon is entering his mouth quickly.

You hold his mouth shut and wait for him to swallow. Telemachus’s eyes are wide and you just give him a stern look so he swallows the soup. You pull the sppon out of his mouth and reach down to the bowl for another scoup.

“Have you gone crazy what are you doing?” Telemachus asks you as if you were a psycho or something. You shrug your shoulders.

“You need to eat. Soup good?” You ask bringing the spoon up to his mouth once again. The prince hesitates then bashfully nods and opens his mouth.

“Thank you dear.” Your soon to be husband says through a mouthgful of soup he is now thankfully eating.

“Of course,” You bring a hand up to rub his cheek while he eats. “I’ll always take care of you. Even when you’re acting like a child.” You say with a little laugh to yourself.

You and the rest of your team watched as Lisbon and Patrick walked out of Minelli’s office, and down the stairs, and to your desk area. Of course all meetings with your boss didn’t usually end in your teams favor but this felt different, something was wrong.

You, Vanpelt, Rigsby, and Cho all stand up around the same time eagerly awaiting what Lisbon had to fill you all in on. Expectantly you waited for her to tell you what was what, Cho and Rigsby stood next to you while you leaned against the desk Vanpelt sat at.

“We’re off Red John.” Lisbon said and out of everything you had expected her to say that wasn’t it. Your team collectively started talking over each other in retaliation. “Quiet.” Your boss had a stern voice that hushed everyone quickly.

“It’s my fault,” she started, “It’s a wake up call for all of us. We’ve grown slack and unprofessional.” Lisbon looked at you and your team mates as she spoke and you could feel the seriousness flowing through every word.

“We need to earn back the trust that we’ve lost.” As your boss spoke Patrick finally made an appearance from where ever he had wandered off too. Without acknowledging him, Lisbon continued.

“From now on we work one hundred percent straight. No more short cuts no more-” Behind Lisbon, Patrick was putting away the things on his disorganized desk into a box. It had caught the attention of everyone on the team and now Lisbon too. “What are you doing, you leaving?” Lisbon more demanded than asked the consultant who just perked his head up.

“Well frankly if I can’t use this job to seek some kind of personal revenge then uh,” Patrick paused and looked around at his team mates, it felt personal when he spent a few extra moments of hesitation staring at you. “There’s not a whole lot here for me.” Patrick said with a shrug of his shoulders but it felt much more like a punch to the gut.

How could he even say that? Was your friendship and the bond you had built here just nothing? You went to say something, anger bubbling in your throat but Patrick continued. “I don’t make anything better,” Patrick explained, “I can’t bring people back to life. What good do we do?” Patrick asked the group.

Now you really were upset, Patrick always had a different idea of what you were doing here at the CBI than you or the team did. You spoke up before the others. “We bring people to justice and stop them from hurting more people.” Vanpelt nods like she was going to say something similar.

You hear Patrick let out a “Justice” under his breath followed but a chuckle and shake of his head. There are many times you feel like punching Patrick in the face but this trumps all of that.

“Hows that been going lately?” Patrick asks as he looks up from his box. You go to say something but Cho cuts in.

“We put bad guys away where they can’t hurt people.” His voice is usually void of emotion but you can hear the anger he has for how Patrick views the job in every word. “That’s good enough.” Cho has a sort of ‘final say’ vibe when he talks that makes everything he says carry a whole lot more weight.

Patrick waves him off and shakes his head, “Ah yeah I was doing more good as a psychic.” You see the way every ones demeanor shift, Patrick could be a real dick sometimes. “I was giving people hope at least.” The man waved a finger in the air as he spoke and bent down to grab a book off his desk. “False hope but hope anyway.”

Before the team can react in a mix of offense and hurt, Vanpelt gets a call. That gives reason enough for everyone to split to their respective corners of the room, except you that is. You and Patrick had a connection, or at least you thought you did. You and the consultant were friends and you at least thought he valued you and the team a bit more than he’s acting like he did. You understand the importance of Red John and the case to him but there were other things of importance in this world.

“Do you really think that?” You ask as you move away from Vanpelt’s desk to instead get in Patrick’s space. Behind you Rigsby and Cho give each other a look before Lisbon tells them to get ready to leave. “All that stuff about our jobs just being useless.” You finish.

“Now that’s not what I said.” Patrick explained while looking at some of the things on his desk. “I think that what the we do just stops a problem. We don’t fix anything we just bring an end to something bad and at the end of the day what does that do?” You give Patrick an offended look that he just waves off.

“You know what.” You say while your team files out behind you. You try to find the words but everything you have to say is wildly unprofessional or make you found like you care much more about Patrick then he cares about you. And god does that hurt to think. “Have fun being a full time fraud while we can go back to our small little jobs here.”

With that and a “Let’s go” from Lisbon you grab your phone and keys from the desk behind you and leave. You leave Patrick. You can hear him behind you and it sounds as if he was going to say something but you pay no mind and keep going. If he wasnts to leave this all behind so he can play shrink then why should you even care?

You’re a bit behind your team when you make it outside theyre filling into a van already. Lisbon rolls down her window. “Don’t let Jane bother you he's just an asshole.” You shake your head, eyes darting away because you know Lisbon’s a good enough detective to know what the look in your eyes means.

“Yeah I know wish he was a bit more subtle about it tho,” You hear a chuckle from Rigsby in the back seat which helps lighten your mood a little bit.

“Alright, we need you to take a second car in case we need to split up,” Your boss informs you of your duties to which you nod. “We’ll fill you in when we get there.”

“Yes boss,” and with that Lisbon rolls up her window and you turn to find the secondary vehicle you have for this type of situation. It doesn’t take long for the rest of your team to pull out, honestly you usually hated egtting put in the second car but this would be a good time to think everything over at least.

Patrick just always had to be so difficult and you put up with it everytime but he crossed a line talking about the job like that and just being ready to throw it all away like that. You had been mindlessly going through the motions of pulling up the address on your phone, starting the car, getting your seat belt on, etc etc. A sudden knock on the passenger side window pulled you out of your thoughts.

The knock belonged to the one and annoying Patrick Jane. When your eyes met through the rolled up window he smiled and made a motion towards the door handle signilling he wanted it open. Reluctantly, and you aren’t even sure why you did, you unlocked the door with a sigh.

“Hello Y/l/n,” Patrick said cheerfully as he settled in the passenger side seat and secured his seatbelt across his waist. “Where we off too?” The consultant, or ex-consultant, or whatever, asked curousily and it took everything out of you to not strangle him right then and there.

“The hell are you talking about Jane? You quit just to turn around and come to the crime scene with us?” You ask as the anger bubbles up threatening to spill over more than it already was. “I mean really who does that?” You say rehtorically before Patrick can answer your first set of questions.

Despite how you feel you pull put the parking lot anyway. “Well I couldn’t just leave you guys like that, you need me.” Patrick spoke as if it was the simplest concept in the world and didn’t just insulte your entire team. You chuckle at the audasity.

“Oh really? Thats what you think of all of us?” You ask gripping the steering wheel tighter. You couldn’t believe what Patrick was saying, sure you knew he was prideful and didn’t care what people thought most of the time it still hurt to find out he thinks so lowly of all of you.

“Of course I think you’re all very competent detectives but I’m what solves cases you know?” Patrick explains his thought process to you and maybe the backhanded compliment was ment to smooth things over with you but it wasn’t working by any means.

“Right.” You say, maybe it was all the frustration but angry tears were welling in your eyes as you drove. “If you just think we’re all living in Patrick Jane land I assure you we are not. You are just some asshole who doesn’t care about people.” Once the words start flowing out of you they don’t stop. And you don’t dare look over at Jane while you drive and talk beacuse the tears start flowing too.

“So what we lost the Red John case? It’ll probably be good for you to get away from it all. I can- we can see the way it’s destroying you Patrick.” It’s like word vomit that you start to choke on as it comes out. “We care about you Patrick so maybe stop being such a dick and just leave if thats what you want to do.”

Once you finally get what you needed to say out of your system the tears come to a halt and you can finally breathe again. But you can also think clearly again and can realize what you had just been saying. Dread washes over you like a flood.

“Jane I didn’t-” You start but Patrick cuts you off.

“I’m sorry Y/n,” He says looking over at you and while you’re too focused on the road ahead you don’t catch the look in his eyes. “I’m sorry for how I act it’s not,” Patrick hesitates, “It’s not fair to you or the team.” You want to say something but it’s patrick’s turn to talk now and he’s not letting you take it from him.

“I do care about you, all of you. I’m not leaving the team, I didn’t mean al that I just needed to feel like I’m above Red John but at the end of the day I’m not.” You sigh a breath of relief, Patrick wasn’t leaving.

“You are above Red John, you don’t need to be a dick about it though.” You say, a hand going up to your face to wipe a stray tear away. Avoiding the embarassment you feel about crying infront of your colleauge and friend you find something else to say.

“I’m glad you’re staying though,” You say sincerely and wiht a bit more love for the man you wanted to show, “And not because we need you to solve cases. We can do that fine on our own.” You joke with him to lighten the mood and hopefully make him forget about how sappy you sounded for a minute there.

A hummored hum comes from the not-ex-consultant and youcan finally feel yourself realx. Yours and Patricks relationship was an interesting one to say the least, you were friends but you wished to cultivate your connection into something more. When he said he was leaving you worried youd never get the chance to have an actual relationship with Patrick but here he was.

It truly was a beautiful day. The sun was shining in a way that brightened the world making it warm but not blazing hot like Telemachus hated. It had rained the day before making the sunshine and cool breeze even better. The prince was wandering the gardens deep in thought. Particularly deep in thought about something his mother had said to him yesterday.

Flash Back

You had gotten a little fever after being out in the rain and Telemachus was of course staying by your side while the nurses of the palace tended to you. His mother of course stayed in her chambers but called for Telemachus to make an appearance. Walking through the suitors was like hell but he carried on through the masses.

Telemachus waited for his mother to open the sliding door, when it opened he stepping through. “Hello mother, you wanted to see me.” The prince greeted the queen as he walked into her chambers.

“Yes,” Penelope spoke up, “I was wondering how Y/n was doing.” Her voice was calm and her focus never left the task in-front of her.

“She’s doing well, just a fever from being out in the rain too much.” Telemachus informed his mother and she just nodded her head and hummed.

“Ah yes, silly girl.” Penelope spoke fondly of you. Ever since you and her son started courting she had a fondness of you that both you and Telemachus appreciated. “How is it going with y/n?” Penelope asks.

The prince blushed a little, easily flustered when asked about his intimate relationship with you. “Very well mother.” Telemachus says simply.

“And will you be asking her to marry soon?” Penelope asks her son and even though he stands behind her she can sense the boy is now greatly flustered. It’s her motherly duties though.

“Ah yes,” Telemachus mutters, “At least I hope too.”

“And Children?” Penelope inquires, her tone is carefree and the complete opposite of how Telemachus feels.

“Mother!” The man reprimands, his face flush from embarrassment at the questions.

“What? I want grand children is that so wrong?” Penelope exclaims innocently, and looks back at her son and chuckles when she sees his current state.

“We haven’t,” Telemachus starts and then pauses to think, “we haven’t talked about it yet.” He mumbles the last part still quite embarrassed.

Penelope looks at her son, the love he has for you is no question but she knows of the reservations Telemachus has about having a child. She sighs, “You should go back to her.” Penelope tells her son and waves him off.

“Yes mother,” Is all the prince says and he is turning out the door to leave. Luckily on his way back to your quarters none of the suitors give him any shit. Well except for the normal amount

End of Flash Back

Telemachus sits on a lone rock as he thinks. The rock is positioned towards the sea on a tall hill, looking out to the ocean it helps the prince think. His thoughts mainly centered around having a child of his own. Starting a family. With you.

Of course he wanted to marry and have a life with you. But fear clouded that dream. Telemachus wasn’t even a year old when his father left him and his mother. The prince couldn’t even imagine how difficult it was to leave his family behind for a war. What it must of flt like for Odysseus. The last thing Telemachus wanted was to do the same to you and his child.

Possibly putting his son or daughter through the same thing he did was too much to bare. Telemachus couldn’t even imagine having to leave you behind, how tortuous that would be. The man has seen what twenty years without Odysseus has done to his mother and he cannot do that to you.

Lost in deep thought Telemachus doesn’t realize you are walking up to him. “Hello dear,” you say to him making the prince quickly turn around to look at you. You watch his face twist from attack mode to a loving kindness.

“Y/n you’re awake! How’re you feeling?” Telemachus ask’s you excitedly ushering you over to the rock he was sitting on. He takes off one of the cloak garments for you to sit on.

“Much better thanks to you and the nurses.” You say thankfully with a smile towards the man you love. Telemachus gives you a fond smile but you can see the troubling thoughts clouding his mind. “Is there something the matter Telemachus?” You ask worried about him.

The man quickly shakes his head but stops and thinks. He remembers his mother telling him the root to a happy relationship is talking openly about how you feel. “It’s nothing just thinking about something my mother mentioned the other day.”

You almost say something but instead take his hand in yours and squeeze it tightly to prompt him to continue talking. “My mother she mentioned us wedding, and of course I wan that,” Telemachus spoke frantically to ensure you knew that wasn’t what was troubling him by any means.

“But she mentioned.” the man hesitates, “She mentioned us having children and I just don’t know if I can,” Telemachus’s voice broke,” I don’t know if I can do it. Being a father I mean.” The tears slowly welling up in his eyes begin to fall.

“Oh Telemachus,” Your heart aches when you see him start to cry. You’re arms reach up to pull him into a hug he gladly accepts. “We’ll figure it out together dear I promise.” You coo at him softly comforting him.

“I know,” he says, “I just worry I will put my son or daughter through the same thing I went through.” Telemachus’s voice breaks a little as you pull away from the hug but keep your hands intertwined.

“The Gods haven’t granted me the ability to see into the future but I know you will be an amazing husband,” You spoke softly, “You have people in your life that will help you be an amazing father as well.” Telemachus looked at you with wet eyes that held all the love and adoration he had for you.

“One day,” The man spoke up, “one day I want to have a family with you and I want to be the father I never had.” Telemachus confesses to you. You smile warmly at him.

Patrick was an interesting colleague to have to say the least. You weren’t quite prepared for everything the consultant had to offer when you first came onto the CBI team. It was a little after Van Pelt did so you at least weren’t alone in being a newbie. Patrick took an immediate liking to you, which you didn’t mind at all because you felt the same about him.

The consultant was interesting and wild and an entire different vibe than the rest of the government field had to offer. Patrick was a breath of fresh air. The only problem is you had started to catch feelings for the mentalist. How could you not? Patrick was everything you had ever wanted and more but there were two small issues.

“I know I stand in line until you think you have the time To spend an evening with me”

One: You were colleagues, well technically you were even though Patrick wasn’t an agent. And Two: You knew he wasn’t ready for a relationship yet. Maybe he never would be, you didn’t blame him of course. Patrick loved his wife and child and you never wanted to try and step in before he was ready for something new.

You respected Patrick and his aversion to a new relationship but you just wished he’d stop, oh I don’t know being the way he is.

“And if we go someplace to dance, I know that there's a chance You won't be leaving with me”

It felt like every case, every turn, every everything had him finding a new excuse to flirt with someone. There were times Patrick flirted with you, of course it was in his nature, but someone from the case? It’s ridiculous! Every time you felt like maybe there was a spark between you and the consultant he was flirting with the widow of the victim or something like that that made that dream crumble away.

You lived with it though. Lived with that feeling of love you felt every time you and Patrick had a conversation. Lived with the fact you knew it couldn’t ever happen. Even though you lived with it, it killed you.

Today was like any other, another case closed and more paperwork to be dealt with tomorrow. Tonight though? Tonight was for partying. Patrick always insisted that the team needed to “unwind”, or whatever he called it, after a long case like this one. Of course Rigsby had finally gained the courage to ask Van Pelt out so they were sneaking off, to no ones surprise, to have a “secret date”. Cho didn’t want to go out and get hungover on a weekday and Lisbon didn’t want to get stuck third wheeling with you and Patrick.

So of course now it was just you and the man you were desperately trying to avoid because the aching in your heart grew every time you were together.

“And afterwards we drop into a quiet little place and have a drink or two”

Maybe drinking with Patrick wasn’t a good idea. Maybe you should have gone the Cho route and not come to a bar. Maybe, maybe, maybe, whatever. All you knew at this point was that Patrick was just having one or two soft drinks and you were, well you were going all out.

Who even knows why. It’s probably the stress or probably the fact you’ve had a one sided love with your coworker for who knows how long. But here you were, Patrick had been with you the night being so kinda and funny and charming and now he’s taking care of you drunk and your mind was flooded with adoration for the man.

“You’re so nice to me Patrick,” you ask groggily, voice muffled by the way your head was face planted into your arm on the table.

“Oh no no you wont be saying that when I tell the team all about this tomorrow.” Patrick jokes, taking a sip of the water he had originally gotten for you but went basically untouched. “Just you wait.” Patrick smiles and you can practically feel your heart reaching out for him.

“No you’re nice, so so nice.” You slur your words and it’s a wonder Patrick even knows what you’re saying.

“And then I go and spoil it all by saying something stupid like "I love you"

You weren’t thinking straight, not in the slightest. “You know Patrick,” You start and then stop and think. But again, not thinking straight. “I just, I just really love you but I can’t I shouldn’t” You’re words are muffled and slurred but Patrick hears it all the same. “I don’t know I just really really like you.” You start to giggle at yourself and probably something else you’ve found funny.

“I can see it in your eyes That you despise the same old lies you heard the night before”

Patrick on the other hand has an uncomfortable sour look on his face, not in discomfort but some other emotion you weren’t paying enough attention too distinguish. You didn’t know that his heart dropped at your words. You didn’t know that he felt the same way but he wasn’t ready, he couldn’t let himself go there again. Not yet.

But there you were, still had the same innocent dreamy look on your face as you took another drink of the cheep booze Patrick bought for you earlier. He still loved you. But he was afraid and wasn’t ready. Not for this.

“And though it's just a line to you, for me it's true And never seemed so right before”

“Patrick do you not feel that way about me?” You’re voice cuts through Patrick’s thoughts. The man noticed the way you suddenly were very sad and the way your beautiful eyes began to fill with tears.

“No,” Patrick swallowed the lump in his throat, “No that’s not it. I do,” he paused, even now Patrick had a hard time bringing himself to say those three words. “I do feel that way about you but now isn’t the time. Okay?” Patrick find’s the words and delivers them gently enough it doesn’t break you.

All you needed to hear is that he felt the same way too and the tears in your eyes were all dried up. You pushed yourself up off from laying against the table and stretched.

“I think we should be done for the night,” Patrick poses it as a statement and leaves no room for disagreements on your part. Patrick is desperately trying to get his bearings back and start acting normal again. You just whine at his words which makes hims chuckle but he pulls the drink in your hand away from you and replaces it with water.

“I’ll take you home, common y/n” Patrick says to you and that’s the last of the night you remember. It’s been quite some time since then, you didn’t remember basically anything from that night and Patrick made it his mission to keep you from remembering what you had said about loving him.

But time had passed and Patrick’s feelings for you were growing with every passing day. The emptiness in his chest was being filled and it was all thanks to you. The idea of being in love and being in a relationship weren’t so scary anymore. But now Patrick had two problems.

One: How was he going to go about asking you out. And Two: Do you still have feelings for him? Of course the second one wasn’t too hard to figure out considering he was almost able to read minds but he still needed to be one hundred percent sure before he let himself go there.

“I practice every day to find some clever lines to say To make the meaning come through”

Of course Patrick Jane was still Patrick Jane though at the end of the day. He was getting more flirty and bold with his advances on you. But for some reason nothing was really working, at least he didn’t think so. Both you and Patrick considered each other you’re closest friend and even though you knew what he was doing you were worried that it still wasn’t real.

This new change up in how Patrick was acting last for a little over a month before this case’s investigation started. The case was nothing crazy by any means, well until the end of it.

Patrick had gone out and made the killer mad, to no ones surprise it got him into trouble. The killer wanted to make what Patrick called his "final stand" meaning he was tucked away in some warehouse and it was your teams job to capture him.

It was late when it happened, Lisbon was instructing the team on what to do and where to go. You and Vanpelt took the left exit while Rigsby and Cho took the right. Lisbon stayed behind with Jane and the local police to find a way in through the front.

Vanpelt walked quietly behind you checking every door and corner you came across and yelling "clear" every time she didn’t find anything. Suddenly a loud crash was heard right up in front of you and the other agent.

Yours and Vanpelt's guns immediately darted towards the source of the noise. Before either of you could do anything shots rang out from the killer. Your mind and body were immediately flooded with nothing but pain.

It all happened in a blur. You got shot in the side, boiling pain seeped through your body from the impact. Your gun, and your body, dropped to the floor in a painful heep on the ground. There were more gunshots which you hoped were from Vanpelt behind you.

That’s when you blacked out. The last thing you remember seeing was Vanpelt hovering over you. The last thing you felt was a burning fire in your side taking over you.

When you woke up the first thing you noticed was bright lights baring down onto you. The air was cool and and you felt a little like you were floating. The next thing you noticed was a heavy weight on the bed next to you, blond curls and a grey suit jacket told you all you needed to know.

"Patrick?" You say but your voice is hoarse and you dont have enough strength to move much at all. It was then you relied where you were, it was a hospital room. You must've been brought here after what happened.

Fear prickled your skin and made your mind race with adrenaline but the sudden movement next to you seased all the thoughts in your head.

Patrick had woken up and was wiping the sleep from his eyes. "Y/n?" The consultant mumbles and then fully wakes up. "Y/n, you're awake!" He exclaims with a happy smile on his face.

"I am!" You try to match his energy but it just isn’t in you. "What happened?" You ask looking around and then down at yourself.

"You got shot and had to get brought in for emergency surgery, everything's ok now don’t worry." Patrick explains calmly but it looks like he's been in distress for the past few hours. His face his tired and he looks worn out.

One of your hands reaches up to hold his face in your hand, your thumbs brushes the skin beneath it gently. "Thank you for being here Patrick." You mumble and it makes Patrick have a tired smile that is infectious.

“But then I think I'll wait until the evening gets late and I'm alone with you."

It's quiet for a while, it's just the two of you basking in each others presence gazing into the other's eyes with adoration. “Has the doctor said anything about my condition?” You ask and suddenly Patrick is very solemn.

“You’ll be alright it’ll just,” Patrick hesitates, “Take some time.” You suspected as much but hearing it doesn’t make it any better. You let out a quiet ‘oh’ and shift a little in the bed. The quietness is back but it’s disturbed, Patrick’s hand reaches for yours and when he holds it tight the pain bubbling up in you chest subsides.

"The time is right, your perfume fills my head, the stars get red and, oh, the night's so blue”

“Y/n, when you got shot I,” Patrick starts but his voice is tight and it’s as if he’s holding himself back from crying. “I was so worried about you. And I was terrified of what might happen to you.” The man explains as his grip on your hand tightens.Your heart swells the more Patrick talks, you try to cut in and say something but he stops you.

“Please?” Patrick asks while raising a hand to show he wants you to let him speak. “I thought I was going to loose you and it made me realize that I need to stop being afraid.” Patrick explains and the more he talks the wetter his eyes get but he pushes through.

“And then I go and spoil it all by saying something stupid like “I love You”

“Y/n I love you,” Patrick confess and immediately you are flushed with a bubbling sense of butterflies that make your face red. A tear falls down Patrick’s face as he talks and his hand still hasn’t let go of yours. “I have for so long but I’m ready now and I can’t risk loosing you again before you know how I feel and how much you mean to me.”

It looked as if Patrick had more to say but was loosing the word the more choked up he got. There wasn’t even words to describe how you felt about Patrick so instead you let the drugs clouding you mind do their magic. You free hand goes to Patrick’s face and holds it like you did before, thumb brushing away a loose tear falling down his cheek.

You gently pull him towards you and with all the strength yo can muster you push yourself up to meet him half way. Your lips meet in a gentle passion that say everything neither of you know quite how to say. It’s passionate and sweet the way Patrick’s lips are gentle on yours but leave a fire in their wake none the less.

When you have to reluctantly pull away your eyes stay closed for a moment longer and when you open them you’re met with a bright blue eyes looking at you like you just rose the sun yourself and a smile that warms your heart.

“I’m sorry it took me so long,” Patrick mumbles and he’s so close his lips brush against yours with every word. You shush him before he can say anything else.

You lean back into him this time with the yearning passion that’s been building up for months. Patrick lets out a breath of relief and love as he melts into you, finally the time was right.
