I built a matchmaking app for Gen-Z that's not about dating. 9 people signed up in the first day without me posting anywhere. Sharing what I learned. Being an 18-year-old business student…
so, i built VibeMatch because i was tired of every 'connect with people' app assuming you want to date them.
the whole thing is built around a 19-question vibe quiz. not 'what's your job' or 'how tall are you.' stuff like your energy type, your red flags, what you're actually into. it spits out a compatibility score and matches you with people who actually get you - could be a best friend, a study partner, whatever.
there's also a karma system where you complete small daily tasks (wellness, creative, social stuff) and level up. it's weirdly addictive. It’s a good karma and bad karma. Good karma is obtained when completing tasks, being active and bad karma is obtained by swearing, being rude etc.
i didn't post anywhere. told maybe 3 people. 9 users showed up anyway on the first day. We are close to 15 members, two days later.
what i'm trying to figure out now: does the 'not a dating app' positioning actually land with people, or does it confuse them? like when you hear 'matchmaking app' do you automatically think romantic?
Also, its more than just matchmaking! There’s been huge updates. And a name change to vibeplace. There is now a fully functioning AI study helper called Alphie. There is a shop, leaderboards, full working group chats as well as safe private chats (censors personal information and swear words). There is even a newsletter emailed every Monday afternoon as well as “daily crunch” feature were the users get bite-sized news from the world, and this refreshes every day!
genuinely curious what this community thinks.
