after reading a bunch of classical literature i’ve decided to revive the concept of knighthood all by myself
who the fuck is donkey hotay
of course you have a full suit of armour both marking you as the romantic ideal of masculinity and obscuring your body so completely that your sex loses importance when signifying your gender and class. and pronouns

One day i will write my interpretation of the Jedi's relationship with the Force through the principles of medieval chivalry and courtly love and you will all be sorry
No but you Need to understand that to comprehend the Jedi's relationship to love and the Force we also need to look at the common interpretations of the chivalric code and rules of courtly love
Exaltation of the beloved lady = following the will of the Force
Love for love's sake = encouraged to love the world
Love as desire never to be fulfilled = no attachments
Anakin worshiped her lady (in this case Padmè, not the Force) - the love and sexual desire he felt were the romantic ideal. However, physical consummation of that love would have been adultery and thus Anakin falls to the Dark Side for breaking the chivalric code of honour. Abstinence and "pure love", the erotic tension that can never be fulfilled - this is the code. The worship of the Force is like the Cult of Mary - you are directing your passions towards the religious exaltation of the Virgin.
The ideal Jedi as chevalier sans reproche. A knight in a shining armour
dolly parton isn’t in star wars
Dolly Parton is the living embodiment of the Force
you, thinking you’re being chivalrous for showing a tiny amount of courtesy
me, knowing i’m chivalrous, as i provide my enemies with honorable death
knights? gotta be one of my favorite genders
if she’s your girl why am I wearing her favour at the tournament
If she’s your girl why am I her champion

i find strength in my girlmutuals much in the same way that a monk might find strength in the lord
clone/jedi courtly love is something that can be so special when you make it up yourself
I think knights devoted to ladies and falling passionately in love with them is fucking sick as hell actually. Just also the knights should also be ladies.
People always be like “such and such Jedi is my man” your man??? Baby that’s a state enforcer and a vessel for an ancient divine power. Technically? That’s The Force’s man.

the individual jedi is very obviously modeled after the concept of a knight/samurai fantastical concept, up to and including the fact that in ESB an early version of luke becoming a jedi involved taking an honorable oath much like traditional knights would have. the individual jedi, as conceived of in the OT, is the nebulous ideal knight of fantasy fiction, loosely inspired by the knights of actual historical context; they are lone actors, shrouded in mystery, with incredible fighting skill, who adhere to a private code of ethics. in the original trilogy, the jedi are very much this idealized, fantasy version of medieval knights - instead of being vassals sworn to a lord, reaping the benefits of nobility the way both knights and samurai at points in history did, they are sworn to serve a mystical power of goodness. the jedi were, by nature of being rare at this point in time, written with an individualistic cant, their place in society being “mysterious, ominous doers of good, that there are only rumors of, they adhere to some fancy ancient religion and use cool weapons no one else uses.”
the jedi as an organization in the prequels are the institutionalized version of that philosophy, where the personal moral code that drives the individual jedi has led the group to ally themselves with the state they see as most deserving. the jedi are no longer these lone actors, but an organization of dedicated lone actors. they enact those core principles from the OT on large scale, and wage war based on their moral principles; a large part of the reason why the jedi agree to fight in the clone wars, despite the fact that they see themselves as peacekeepers, is because the sith are on the other end of it and the sith must be persecuted for the sanctity of the force. their power as an individual is multiplied thousands of times over; they’re not longer the fantastical idea of the mysterious lone knight, they’re the order of knights empowered by their service to the republic. the jedi very much get written as a fantastical ideal and then that’s deconstructed in the next film series, which i think is a really fun choice - there was nothing in the original trilogy indicating that george lucas had to stick his order of knights to the republic, they could have very well been some guys in the middle of nowhere doing arcane shit. he could have kept that idealized fantastical approach; but, now we have the space knights templar. do you think the jedi get paid in land holdings that’d be fucking hilarious
need to research the specific examples of what im talking abt but like. let me talk out of my ass for a second here.
the jedi requiring recruits as young children would be less...of a narrative hiccup.........would seem more acceptable in the gffa.................... if the republic was modeled after a more restrictive medieval feudal system or smthn. where means of upward social movement were tightly regulated so sending ur child to be raised as a ward at a priveleged order of the systems enforcers looked like a reasonable option. unlike in the more open space capitalist system--not unlike modern times where we cant imagine a private body being more capable of caring for a child than a family unit-- that we mostly see.
idk GL sucks man
