Mikau and the Master - Thiebaud Three Jelly Apples 1964
So, I haven’t been posting my art journey much over the past month, but I have been painting and drawing from time to time. I don’t have a lot of energy in the winter because Seasonal Affective Disorder saps all of it, but I feel like I have made some progress.
I know a lot of artists copy old masters to study their technique and get better, so I decided to do a copy of a Wayne Thiebaud drawing that I really like.
Here’s my attempt at Thiebaud’s 1964 drawing, Three Jelly Apples.

I like Thiebaud’s artwork because a lot of it is so accessible. He does a lot of paintings and drawings of desserts and other foods and everyday items, like this drawing of three caramel apples.
I’m pretty satisfied with my efforts. I wasn’t able to create an exact copy, but I came pretty close. I don’t know how he got his so dark, though. I was using a 6B, and that’s the best I could do. XD Maybe the picture I took turned out darker than it is in real life? The picture online looks darker than the picture in my book.
Anyway. This was a fun project. Maybe I’ll do more studies in the future.

“Please stop crying,” Marinette entreated as she simultaneously bounced Louis and fumbled on her phone for the sewing machine ASMR video on YouTube.
“Here’s the bottle,” Adrien announced, rushing over from the kitchen with it.
“Thanks.” Marinette traded him the phone for the bottle, and Adrien finished the desperate search for the video while Marinette took Louis to the couch and tried to feed him.
Louis did not want to be fed.
He made his will known by screaming his head off, and when his mother attempted to slip the bottle into his mouth anyway, he blew a raspberry and sent formula spraying all over Marinette’s face and shirt.
Adrien set down Marinette’s phone on the coffee table and held out his hands for their child. “Here. I’ll take him. Go wash up.”
There was a moment where she considered sticking it out, but the impulse immediately passed, and she handed Louis over. “Thank you.”
“No worries,” Adrien assured as he took their wailing, flailing child. “Hey, Little Prince. Shhh. You’re okay,” he tried to soothe.

Louis did not sleep well that night, and his parents suffered for it.
Adrien was up with him for about an hour until Marinette eventually convinced him to let her take over.
She finally got Louis to sleep by playing a sewing machine ASMR video on YouTube.
“You are a beautiful genius, and I want to marry you immediately,” Adrien muttered groggily as she slipped back into bed beside him.
“Thanks, but the only thing I’m interested in right now is sleep,” she grumbled.
There were two or three other wake-ups throughout the night, but Louis mercifully fell back asleep relatively quickly after he’d had a bottle or his diaper changed.
Once more, the sun came up too early, but Adrien was comforted slightly by waking up to Marinette’s head on his chest, one of her arms and one leg slung over him.
Her hair was sticking up at odd angles, and a little drool trailed from the corner of her mouth down to a spot on his shirt.
“I love you,” he whispered giddily, reaching up to lightly stroke her hair. “I wish I could just tell you that…but don’t worry. I’m going to do everything I can to make it safe for you to know as soon as possible, Princess. I’m going to make Paris safe for our family.”
He gave her hair a nuzzle and pressed the whisper of a kiss to the crown of her head.

The rest of the day at the bakery was fairly uneventful—which Adrien was thankful for because he didn’t think he could take much more family feels in a twenty-four-hour period. His heart was about ready to explode with emotion as it was.
They finished with the orders, and Marinette helped Tom clean up and shut down the bakery for the night while Adrien and Sabine prepared dinner.
Adrien was finding that he liked family meals. He’d always enjoyed coming over to the Dupain-Chengs’ for dinner as Chat Noir, but everything felt different now that Adrien, Tom, and Sabine knew they were going to be family someday.
 “I did some research on bathing infants while Louis was napping,” Adrien informed as he unlocked his apartment door and stepped out of the way to let Marinette enter carrying their son.
“Oh, good,” she sighed, absentmindedly giving a fussy Louis’s head a kiss.
(Adrien’s heart fluttered happily.)
“We really need to give him a bath tonight. I’m sure he’s covered in a fine layer of flour after spending the day at the bakery. I think I remember how to do it from all the times I’ve helped Bri with the kids, but I probably need a refresher.”
“It seemed pretty straightforward.” Adrien set the baby accoutrements down on the kitchen counter and then went back to lock the door. “…And yet absolutely terrifying.”

Adrien must have dozed off because he was suddenly jarred awake by the opening of the flat door. He frantically checked to make sure that Louis was okay and Plagg was out of sight.
(Louis was still sound asleep on Adrien’s chest, and Adrien could feel Plagg hidden in his usual spot in Adrien’s left shoulder.)
“Oh, is it naptime?” Sabine whispered as she came around the couch.
Her bright smile and loving eyes lit up the room, and it suddenly dawned upon Adrien how long it had been since he’d been on the receiving end of a maternal smile.
“I hope I’m not interrupting.” Sabine’s smile turned sheepish. “I just wanted to check to make sure you were doing okay.”
“No, not at all,” Adrien assured, carefully maneuvering so that he was sitting up without jarring Louis. “I mean, you’re not interrupting. And we’re doing okay. I just changed his diaper, let him crawl around for a bit, and then fed him. I think he wore himself out, so now he’s sleeping for a bit.”
Sabine nodded as she took a seat on the couch a little ways off. “Good. Good. You seem like you’ve got things all in hand.”
Adrien nodded, upping the wattage on his smile a little in an effort to instill confidence in his future mother-in-law. “Yep. All good. Thank you for checking on us.”
Her smile softened, and an added warmth came into the corners of her eyes. “You’re very welcome, but I actually came up here to check on you, Adrien, not Loulou.”
Adrien blinked as his brain stalled out. “On me?”

A minute or two later, she spoke up again. “You can hang out up here with Loulou if you want, but you’re also welcome to come downstairs with the rest of us. If you want the company, I mean. But you don’t have to.”
“…Would it be okay if I helped you guys out?” Adrien asked tentatively.
Marinette blinked. “You really don’t have to. Don’t feel obligated just because you’re here. I didn’t drag you over here with me to work.”

Tom snorted as he bent down to get a better look at Louis. “Nonsense. He looks just like me. Hello, My Little Chouquette.”

In the black hours of the day when it was almost too late to be night but still far too early to be morning, Adrien jolted awake.
A sound that resembled a blaring siren more than a human voice pierced the tranquility of the flat.
Adrien groggily climbed out of bed and shuffled to the door. Opening it, he found Marinette pacing the length of the great room, bouncing and shushing a screaming Louis.
“Hey. Everything okay?” he called out as he rubbed at his eyes.
“Sorry for waking you,” Marinette replied through a grimace.
“It’s fine,” he assured, coming over to her. “It happens. What’s wrong?”
“Not a clue,” she sighed. “He just woke up and chose violence against my eardrums.”
Adrien held out his arms for the child, and Marinette eagerly handed their son over.
“Hey, Little Prince,” Adrien cooed, adjusting Louis so that he was nestled up against Adrien’s shoulder. “What’s the matter, Kitten? Why are you crying?”
Louis’s wails softened into whimpers as he gripped at the collar of Adrien’s shirt.
“How the hell did you do that?” Marinette demanded, on the edge of being incensed. “I’ve been up for an hour trying to soothe him, and you just walk in here and…grr.”
She turned away, crossing her arms over her chest with a huff.
“Why didn’t you wake me up?” Adrien asked, baffled.
