me before i get my paycheck: i'm so excited to spend this on essentials and save the rest wisely
me as soon as that direct deposit hits: you know i've always wanted to learn the theremin
I took my little brother (autistic, mostly non verbal) out and he was using his voice keyboard to tell me something, and this little boy (maybe 4 or 5?) heard him and asked me "Is he a robot??" I tried to explain to him that no, he isn't a robot, he just communicates differently, but my darling brother was in the background max volume "I am robot I am robot I am robot I am robot"
My little brother insisted if I was going to post about him, he wanted a cut of the "profits". When I explained to him that Tumblr isn't monetized, and is pretty pointless, he and my older brother pointed out that he'd still be bringing me "fame and notoriety" if the post got "big". So we agreed, if the post hit 10k notes, which seemed extremely farfetched and silly at the time, I'd take my little brother out for sushi (his favorite food) and let him eat as much as he wants.
I guess God wanted the little robot to enjoy some sushi 🍣 🥲

Sometimes, when I read about bird and animal observations in other places of the world, I start to feel like my local area is a lot less 'exciting' or 'rich' in wildlife, and in general quite 'boring', which is not made better by the fact that almost nobody outside of my country knows about its existence. So, I decided to compile some of our local Southern Ural birds as a little tribute. I've seen seven of these, and five were painted from my own photos :)

there’s this term i coined in my friendgroup i call “the charizard effect” and it can apply to anything and everything, but it was born from me explaining my feelings about the pokemon charizard. the term is basically about how overexposure to something be it by corporate shilling or fandom prominence drives me away from really enjoying something bc i’m exposed to it so much against my will i become tired of it. it came to me bc i was ranting about how tpci does not, and cannot stop reinventing charizard, and how it is popular and obtusely included in almost every region, merch, etc in every way possible and it’s highly commodified.
i dont dislike the pokemon charizard, in fact i really like its X form, but i am exposed to so much charizard in my pokemon consumption that i cant be bothered to care for it in any more than in passing. this applies to a bunch of other stuff i’d otherwise be ok with, but i always just call this aversion phenomena “the charizard effect”
making this term has done numbers for me being able to concisely express how i feel abt something. like. its not charizard’s fault i feel this way, im sure i’d feel normal abt it if it was stripped of all this over commodification, but i cannot. hence the name

Simplified bird #52 - great crested grebe
( requested by @mihamihoku )
Observed today:
Two little girls playing gently with a daddy long legs.
Girl 1: can it die?
Girl 2, in a calm happy even tone: of course. Like all living things it can and must die.
The recent hot VS cold polls have made me realise that a lot of people have no idea how to cool down.
As someone from a hot country that's regularly on fire, here's some tips:
WATER IS YOUR FRIEND! WATER! IS! YOUR! FRIEND! You can transfer SO much heat into this bad boy! You cannot cool down without water!
Wrists under the cold tap. Splash your face and the back of your neck. Fan yourself.
In some countries you can buy a little handeld fan with a water sprayer.
Damp tea towel around the neck. Stick an ice pack in there on hotter days.
Half fill a water bottle with water, stick in freezer. If you use a bottle with a straw, make sure it's lying on its side with the straw side up and out of the water. When frozen top up the rest of the way with tap water and off you go.
Desperate to cool off? Wet T-shirt. Sit in front of a fan. This will nuke it, just don't get hypothermia and don't fall asleep like this.
Cold showers are also your friend in summer. Some people get psyched up by these. Personally, I sleep like a baby, so I'm good to have them before bed. Just keep in mind that it takes a bit of time for the cool to circulate, so your body will tell you that you're colder than you actually are. I find that when I have cold showers I need to step out of the spray when I think I'm cold... I'll just wait, and thirty seconds later the temperature has evened out and I actually need to step under again. Rinse and repeat until you maintain coolness even after stepping out for a bit.
If you can't do cold showers, turn the cold shower on anyway and just stick your arms under. When they're cold, lift your arms up above your head. The sensation of cool blood draining into your body is fucking weird and kinda unpleasant but less unpleasant than being hot.
Feet in a tub of water with ice. Blood naturally flows to your extremities when hot, so take advantage of this. If you don't have a tub of ice water, sticking a wet rag on your feet in front of the fan works too, it's the less powerful version of the wet T-shirt.
Drinks lots of water but make sure that water has electrolytes as well. Stay in the shade.
Keep air circulating. Fans don't actually cool rooms down, they just help transfer heat from your body to the moisture on your skin or the air via evaporative cooling.
Block north facing windows early in the morning so the sun doesn't get in. If you're in the northern hemisphere, this is opposite for you. Keep in mind that if your home is brick, the bricks will still heat up and slowly release heat into your home even after the sun goes down so this will only do so much.
If it's hotter inside than outside, close all your windows but two, making sure they're on opposite sides of the house/unit you're in. Point a fan out of one window, making sure that the doors between the rooms with the open windows are all open. This will help create a mini pressure system in your home, pulling cooler air in and pushing the hotter air out via the fan. Bonus points if you can get that fan high up where the hot air rises; even within a single room the top is much hotter than the air by the floor. Adjust the amount of open windows based on how many fans you have, but generally you want more windows with fans open than windows without fans to keep the pressure correct.
Obviously, use your common sense for these. Not everything WILL work for you, just use the stuff that does and adjust what needs to be adjusted. Some of these will be impossible to use in the workplace but others you can still use. Others are best used at home. If humidity impacts your ability to use any of these, get a dehumidifier if that's an option, or use more ice instead of evaporation.
Also keep in mind that the skinnier you are, the faster these will work. More fat means more insulation, means more heat, so you may need to be more patient with some of these or use them in combination.
Bringing this back for my dying mutuals
for the important people in your life, huh.
[ID: A Mob Psycho 100 comic done in black line art. Reigen picks up a book and says behind him, “Mob, you’re antsy, what’s up?” Behind him, Mob is sitting tensely and looks surprised to be called out. He looks away and says, “I want to give Ritsu something to celebrate his powers.” Reigen prompts, “But?” Mob answers, “I don’t know what people give as gifts.” Reigen says thoughtfully, “Ah- Eh…” He puts a hand to his chin. “You could give him a plant?” He waves a hand rapidly. “Or food?”
Mob looks at him, still looking troubled. Reigen says, “No? Okay, um… Does he have a show he likes you could buy merch for? (Oh, but merch is pretty expensive.)” Mob shakes his head somberly. Reigen leans against his desk and continues offering suggestions. “Milk? Does liking milk run in the family?” Mob sweats and looks down sadly. “Not particularly…” “Do you draw?” “… Not really.” “Clothing? Go somewhere with him?”
Reigen starts sweating too, waving a finger around and scratching the back of his neck. “You could make something for him. People tend to feel touched by self-made gifts. A card? Actually no that’s lame. Origami stars are kind of sweet-” Mob perks up, an exclamation mark appearing next to him. “- Since you give them to the important people in your life to wish them luck or to just show your appreciation. Or something along those lines.“ Reigen looks down with surprise at Mob, who is now standing and smiling excitedly. “Oh, you seem to like that, okay.”
He takes Mob by the shoulder and smiles confidently. Mob looks surprised. “Alright Mob, I used to make them all the time so I’ll teach you.” He adds quietly, “(Though I didn’t make them for anyone.)” Reigen points forward and grins, “Go grab some cardboard.”
The next panel starts with a caption that says “Some weeks later” and is set off by flowers. Reigen sits behind his desk and does a big stretch. Then he smiles, “Alright Mob, you can go home for today. I just have some paperwork to finish up.” Mob looks like he’s holding something as he passes in front of Reigen’s desk and says, “Ah, thank you.”
Reigen goes back to going over papers and answers absently when Mob says, “Hey, shishou?” “Mm?” “Have a good evening.” “Ah, you too.” Mob then looks down bashfully. “And thank you for earlier. He liked them.” “Hm?” The view returns to Reigen at his desk. Mob says, “Bye, shishou.” His hand can be seen placing a jar filled with origami stars that go from a gradient of yellow to pink like a sunset, the first bit of color in the comic. Reien waves distractedly and says, “Bye-” Then he sees the jar and stares wordlessly.
The last panel is in full color and zooms out to show more of the office. The room is painted in the warm oranges of late afternoon, and the light coming from the windows glows bright, soft yellow. Reigen puts a hand to his mouth and says, “Oh.” End ID]
this is the funniest scp and yet i've never seen anyone posting about it:

Finally got motivation again. Here’s a once in a lifetime HeiShin post that nobody asked for, happy pride!
peac & love on planet earth
So this is interesting because entire thing is communication, and it also shows how important different threat/aggression postures are.
The first cat comes in ready for a fight. Low down, trying not to be seen, stalking/wary posture.
Second cat jumps in the air and then does the exaggerated arch. That's an absolutely terrified cat. No cool, no chill. A cat willing to fight would not have gone full arch because it's moving them out of a position where they could launch themselves at the other cat. However, a scared cat can move from this to a preemptive attack if they think the other cat is going to attack them and just moving slowly.
Realizing the second cat doesn't want a fight, the first cat comes out of the low, threatening slink quickly to roll around to say hey, whoops, they weren't here to attack, they don't want to fight either.
With similar speed and exaggeration as the arch, the second cat does the same wiggle that yes, I too have no desire to fight, look at me doing the same thing and conspicuously not attacking when you're vulnerable.
To function as a social species, you need checks and deescalation. Both cats don't have perfect information about the other cat, and they need to know that they could misread or be misread, and then adjust their behavior to fix the problem.
