CV Project Notes I was going to post an update but I have got nothing much done at all. I had been making an outline for both the CV3 retold
{OOC} You know what. If tungle keeps fucking it up I'll just post a doc. So there. It's about updates n such about the two projects I promised.
Vampire Trevor can happen whenever and shippy stuff is always a thing here! Hehe.
rebloggin here cuz lazy to repost my stuff
I know you are currently doing DMC again but in your opinions : what are the themes of Castlevania games ?
like I know about humanity but is there more like love for example ?
I've played the Castlevania games but I wouldn't consider myself to have a very informed insight about that series. The Castlevania game I know the best is Harmony of Dissonance lol.
The theme of that game is definitely envy. Maxim is envious of Juste because he inherited the vampire killer. And there's an implication of Juste himself having some complex feelings about the fact that he is an "inbetween" Belmont. His theme song is called "Successor of Fate", i.e. he is the successor of Simon the metatextually original Belmont. And he is the grandfather of Richter, who will invest so much of his sense of personal identity into his purpose in defeating Dracula that he'll succumb to the temptations of evil as a result. Where did that feeling Richter had that he as a Belmont had no purpose without a Dracula to slay if not from his own family? The same darkness that cursed Maxim takes hold of Richter.
That's the only one I feel confident in speaking on in detail at least.
The general theme of the series is that the strength of mankind can prevail against the darkness. This is what the Belmonts represent, as the ones who rise up to defeat Dracula every century or so.
Other games have more specific themes. Symphony of the Night is all about the family legacy, as Alucard feels forced to kill his father in the name of his mother to whom he promised to not harm mankind, and Richter has cracked under the pressure of his legacy and the fear that he has no other reason to live without Dracula. Harmony of Dissonance is about fate, and trying to prevent it: Juste is destined to be a hero, and Maxim tries to relieve him of his destiny both out of a sense of inferiority and genuine worry, but in doing so only perpetuates said fate (speaking of music themes, the theme of the Dracula Wraith is called "Old Enemy" for a reason, and if you find the Hero Statue for your collection, Juste muses that "someday, that would be [him]" in a tone that sounds not very enthusiastic). The Sorrow games are about how you always have a choice to not be evil, especially when you have companions by your side that see you as who you truly are. Curse of Darkness is about grief consuming you, the futility of revenge, and not losing yourself even at your lowest: both Hector and Isaac are driven mad by the Curse and the pain they caused each other, but the former manages to rise above his own suffering thanks to the women he has grown to care about (who saw him as a human being first and foremost), the latter dies because of his loyalty to a Lord who always saw him as a tool. Portrait of Ruin is also about grief and generational trauma, with Brauner stealing Eric's daughters out of grief for his own dead children and Jonathan suffering for the death of his father. Order of Ecclesia can be seen having a theme of community contrasting cults, considering the way Shanoa saves herself from Barlowe's manipulations.
While the games all have lovable protagonists, I think Alucard, Trevor and Hector are by far the best example of what humanity means in CV. Alucard is half human and half vampire, and much like his father, he has all reasons to shun mankind or even hate it, but he makes the choice to respect his human mother's last wish and to fight against his father no matter how much it hurts and how much he hates himself for his tainted nature. Trevor was exiliated by his own peers, but still accepted to save Europe from Dracula, and he did so by reuniting misfits whom he never judged, not even Dracula's own son. And Hector was raised to be a tool of destruction, and he too could have chosen to blame humanity for his suffering and keep dwelling into darkness, but he made the conscious choice to retain his humanity, his dignity as a person, his freedom, and time and time again he had to fight to remain himself and redeem himself of his sins. You can also make a case for Shanoa, who was literally dehumanized by the botched ritual which, unbeknownst to her, would have made her a sacrifice to Dracula, and left without emotions or memories and therefore nothing more than a tool in Barlowe's hands, she needs to reconnect with her brother Albus and find another purpose in life in Wygol Village to survive and find her happiness.
I'll add as well to Portrait of Ruin specifically: the omnipresence of death in times of war.
Not only is this one of the handful of games where Death takes a direct narrative role, but it's also seeped into the history of the characters and in every square inch of every portrait in the castle. And of course it is, the game takes place during the second world war and all that comes with it. Brauner is unconcerned with Jonathan and Charlotte for most of the game because his greater concern is trying to beat Death out of the castle with a broom, all the while denying the deaths of his daughters by deluding himself that they've been reincarnated into Stella and Loretta. And the moment he starts to acknowledge his grief as it is, Death swoops in out of nowhere and kills him on the spot.
And it's not just the characters' personal losses; again, each map is in some way related to the topic of death. The City of Haze is a reflection of WW2 London, complete with the underground chapels at which people prayed to avoid the Blitz. Sandy Grave is an Egyptian tomb. Nation of Fools' artistic premise is expressed outright by its title, and caps off with Legion as a boss fight. Their sequel incarnations (13th Street, Forgotten City, Burnt Paradise) doubles down on these ideas even more.
I mean, it's pretty impossible to have Death as a major antagonistic character and not derive some very self-evident symbolism out of it, even when he's just boss fodder a la CV1 or OoE. One could argue the above theme is present in all the games, even. But PoR is the game where he's the most present; to the point that he's even one half of the final boss fight.
And ironically, Grimoire of Souls takes place because even Death himself can't accept the reality of mortal life when it comes to his beloved Master.
What is the best area theme in cod and why is it eneomaos machine tower
ENEOMAOS MACHINE TOWER APPRECIATION
it's so fucking goooooood the ticking of the clock, the piano, the elegance, the end of the loop as it becomes more tense as if you're really racing against time <3
did you know that it got a heartwrenchingly beautiful remix in the ost too
(I think the title, 耽美な回想, is supposed to be translated as "Aesthetic Recollections" which fits the mood even more)
Meanwhile me sitting in camp Abandoned Castle because I’m easily entertained also first girl wins
And also my girl Garibaldi Temple only because Trevor actually had me fucked up so I rage quit in the save room area and listened to this while getting feels

I always maintain that harmony of dissonance was born to be a psychological horror, the shit that those kids go through makes my stomach turn to think about.
Maxim is lost and confused, he’s just lost two years of his life and his mind is split down the middle with an entity of pure evil and hatred, wandering a castle that he’s never been in and yet it feels intimately familiar. He doesn’t know that it’s made from him, that something so twisted and sinister could be formed from his will. And the longer he spends in there the more he loses himself to it; he becomes murderous, filled with rage and contempt towards the two people he cares about most in the world, one of whom he ends up killing. Was the real Maxim aware of what was happening in the end? Was he trapped inside his own body, watching himself do these horrible things? He had to have been, he remembers it all even after everything is over. And to know that you brought on all of this horror because you were trying to help your friend, the guilt that would come with that would destroy you.
Meanwhile, Juste is likely having a worse time navigating the castle. At the very least each half of Maxim is confined to its own castle, with Juste he’s constantly travelling between them. Imagine if you don’t know what’s going on, retreading the same places that you swore you’ve been before but everything is wrong. The vibrancy has been drained away, the sky is the colour of a fading bruise, the walls are crumbling and the enemies you could easily defeat are now stronger than you were prepared for. Your one ally in this whole nightmare is someone you haven’t seen in years, he’s acting erratic and in some cases violent, you don’t know if you can even trust him anymore.
And somewhere trapped in this labyrinth is Lydie, and Juste has no idea who took her, where she is, whether she’s safe, whether she’s alive. She could be anywhere, sealed away in some hidden quarters with the monster who took her, or she could have been killed a long time ago by some beast in a random hall. He doesn’t know and as time goes on it becomes more and more terrifying to find out.
And oh my god, the shit that Lydie has to endure. Abducted, blindfolded, being lead to believe that Maxim had rescued her only for him to lock her in a room and leave. Who knows how long she was waiting; Maxim had to leave and find Juste and bring him back to get her, it could have been days alone in that tiny room. And when Juste finally arrives to rescue her, death himself takes her away to be murdered by Maxim, the person she thought was going to save her. Imagine the moment death gave her to him, the relief giving way to horror. She must have been so confused and scared, and I imagine that it took a while for Maxim to drain enough blood to kill her. And then in the end, when she miraculously recovers and wakes up, Juste and Maxim keep everything a secret from her. She remembers it happening, she describes it as a dream but it’s still something she remembers happening to her, it’s there at the back of her mind. Would she forgive Maxim if she knew the truth? I think so, but being lied to about it? That changes everything. To have Maxim back around and welcome him right back into her life, meanwhile the whole time him and Juste are lying to her face about her own death. What happens when she starts to remember more? When the memory of that ‘dream’ becomes more vivid? How horrible is it to be treated like that, how violating.
I miss them so much, but I’m gearing up to do more with them very soon, so look at my children!!!!!
This is oldish art, but I love their designs so much!
You imagine cv3/ curse of darkness era dracula with black hair because you watched the show. I imagine cv3/cod era dracula with black hair because it makes more sense for the timeline. We are not the same
I really like the idea of Drac retaining his black hair until either Lisa's death (his grief bleached his hair) or his first resurrection (it was incomplete so he came out slightly wrong). I like the idea that, thematically, he would lose his last Mathias trait during that time.
also tbf black hair dracula looks great to me
ngl, for a while, I did default to picturing black haired Dracula solely because I think he looks dashing, regardless of the show's design lol
He had a phase in RoB, don't mind him. Just an old man trying to keep up with the younger generations.
He even shaved his mustache and beard, like he's ashamed of his age..... 😔
rolls up with the concept art for SotN Alucard
Like father like son-
Dracula keeps a lot of things in his castle...
Still thinking abt them
