no same, it really is just a fun 'what if' exercise to spin around in the ol' noggin for me 🫠

but if it had to be about anything at all...i keep coming back to the idea of how Hector and Arikado end up finding each other again. for all the shipping reasons you can imagine, but also because Hector is in a unique position as a former Devil Forgemaster and apparently the perfect vessel for reincarnating Dracula - so much so that he was Death's first choice - that i'd think he'd be of interest to the agency and by extension Arikado in keeping tabs on him

i'm also kind of mashing different parts of canon and headcanons here, as one does in these kinds of AUs, in that Hector probably avoided detection for as long as he did by not using his powers, much like how the MF manga implies he can be sensed that way. but also if you take my headcanon that Alucard saw Drac attacking Hector like in PtR, and fully believed he was dead the whole time after, that's another way Arikado would've never suspected Hector being alive after all, and especially not hundreds of years into the future due to his accidental immortality

and. if you'll allow me to get a bit self-indulgent here...you could def introduce a bit of a whump aspect to it. maybe the agency goes after Hector first without Arikado's knowledge, fully believing him to be a threat. maybe in a little callback to Curse of Darkness, it's Julius that finds and confronts Hector (this would be a pre- or post-amnesia Julius which also has interesting ramifications for the timeline imo, but atp i'm usually too hard to consider it further lmao) before bringing him in by force. and thats how Arikado, as the foremost Dracula expert gets roped in to reviewing this latest 'threat' before being shot in the balls upon realizing who it is he's dealing with :)

so uh yeah. if i had to make a story out of this AU that's how i'd do it.

Love the idea that it's as much of a surprise for Arikado as it is for Hector :3c I wonder if he's break facade for a second :3c

Mhhh I wonder how they "detected" Hector after so many years... Maybe he had to use his powers after centuries. Maybe there's a new demon activity. You know. Because of a certain event in 2035 :)

And then I suppose the agency gives Hector no choice but to follow them to Japan, and to be assigned to Arikado to adjust and to be kept an eye on. Which could be interesting :3c

yeah thats kinda how i envisioned it! maybe Hector got a little careless in light of everything else that was going on, thinking his particular "signature" couldn't be picked up in the mess of it all. this is def where the "vibes only" part kicks in lmao

Somactor (?) is a fascinating possibility tbh... i feel like Hector is a bit too closed off to want a relationship with a totally new person (esp since this person is the reincarnation of his former Lord. and also younger than him. and all the complicated feelings that entails) but perhaps. with time :3

I would say that recreating the characterisation, mood and general vibes of an existing work of fiction is in fact a skill in and of itself that's acquired via practice. A common compliment delivered to fanfiction writers is how well they have captured the spirit of the original work. Inexperienced fanfiction writers fail to do this.

When creating an original character you can, ultimately, say anything about them and now it's canon bcos you created them and you said so. conversely, well, if you are covering a well known song and start playing the wrong notes people will notice immediately.

In addition: a lot of fanfiction, IMO, is in actuality a form of metafictional literary analysis. a story where two characters sit down and talk about their feelings about a canonical event? literary analysis, which is of course a skill. Sometimes fanfiction is bad bcos the writer is not good at interpreting texts.

We're all putting words to paper, but as writers, you know perfectly well that a poem isn't flash fiction isn't a speech isn't a script isn't a novella isn't one in a series isn't a song isn't a textbook isn't an instruction manual isn't a commerical.

Just because you personally find it easy to write using the existing characters does not mean:

It's easy

You didn't have to develop a skill for it

You're any good at it

It just means it's what you've chosen to write that at that time.

You could be even better writing something that's 'objectively easier'. You could be more successful writing something you spent more time developing skills for. You could enjoy writing something you struggled with and would never share.

And someone else could think one or more of those applies to what you consider "easy."

They have a Global Device Identifier (GDID) Tracker that functions as a fingerprint for your PC that can surpass VPNs, proxy servers and countries. Although it can't survive a clean reinstall of Windows (it can survive updates), because Microsoft forces you to go to the internet and log in into a Microsoft account, they will be able to get to you.

Microsoft kept it secret and it was only found out when the FBI tracked a hacker thanks to the information Microsoft gave them.

You should be paying attention to this, and possibly consider moving away from Windows. If a government, especially the US government, doesn't like you for some reason, this could be seriously concerning.

This article specifically notes:

For journalism, activism, or domestic abuse situations, skip Windows and use Linux routed through Tor instead of a commercial VPN. A GDID doesn’t care which VPN you use, only that it’s still the same Windows installation.

What has researchers uneasy is everything else the case reveals. Costin Raiu, a well-known malware researcher, asked on the Three Buddy Problem podcast how much of this exists on other platforms, and whether it is linked more permanently to hardware. Matthew Hickey, another security researcher, called Windows “surveillance software”.

Two things back that up:

There’s no consent screen. A GDID gets assigned when you sign into a Microsoft Account. Apple’s advertising identifier needs an App Tracking Transparency prompt and a visible reset; Android’s works the same way. GDID has neither, and a Windows reinstall only gets you a new number Microsoft can still get back to the same account.

Then there’s activation. Massgrave, the group behind Microsoft Activation Scripts, notes that Windows setup sends hardware info to Microsoft and gets identifiers back, the same tokens later used for Store access and licensing: “It’s impossible to prevent Windows from getting a GDID without breaking activation and UWP app[s].” Anyone who lost a license after swapping a motherboard has already met a smaller version of this.
