Life was better when you took it with a grain of salt and some laughter. Aiden didnāt mind being called a goofball, in fact he reveled in the title. It was true that the studio was his home, his place of business, but he didnāt treat it like work. It was an amusement park of creativity, ups and downs, adrenaline rushing and his mind opening up to all the different creative paths. Sharing that with people, watching that energy infect them filled the man with a joy. Music was for sharing, after all. Heād tapped at Michelleās nose when she rolled her eyes.Ā āYou secretly like it and you know it,ā heād admonished with a wink.
āIāll eat most of the food,ā he shot back.Ā āAre we going to end up having a karate fight over it? Cause Iāve watched a lot of ninja movies in my day, just warning you.ā He didnāt dare say it out loud, but as he showed Michelle around, the melody to yellow brick road was in his headā¦except the tempo was faster, snare drums and electric guitar taking the music to a hard and less melodic place. He watched her as they moved about, catching the genuine interest in her eyes. Michelle looked like she belonged in the studio, her gaze fluttering over the unfamiliar tech pieces like they were familiar friends.
All thought went away when she began to sing. Her voice was soft, not bogged down by autotune or that whiney quality pop singers could get sometimes. It started like the tone of a mother singing a lullaby with love to a child, but there were powerful edges to it, a sense lingering of potential and power that the brunette was perhaps unaware of. When she stopped, Aiden began to clap, a wide smile on his face.Ā āYou went somewhere else,ā he commented with a tilt to his head.Ā āAll the best singers do thatā¦they go somewhere else when they sing, to the place that holds the emotion their song of choice needs. Youāre a natural, Michelle.ā
She laughed, shaking her head.Ā āYes, youāve caught me, Aiden.ā Michelle held up her hands in a faux-surrender, rolling her eyes still.Ā āI love being waited on hand and foot and treated like a queen for no reason at all.ā She grinned, pulling her hair back into a pony tail.Ā āReally, though, itās a bit excessive, but...Iāll let it slide because youāre you, and you canāt help it.ā She played with a ring on her finger as she walked through the doors of the next room, looking over her shoulder at him as he spoke.
āSo itās really selfishness then?ā Michelle laughed, put her hands up, as if a boxer, doing a little one-two step.Ā āSure, if youāre ready to lose because my karate skills are...on point.ā She threw a fake punch before actually poking his arm.Ā āSee? When Iām not planning classes, Iām honing my martial arts skills. You never know when youāll need them. Especially in a high school classroom.ā Michelle continued to take in the studio, observant eyes moving slowly about the room before turning to him to start.
As she sang, Michelle didnāt really think much of it. She focused on hitting the right notes to the song but didnāt pay too much attention to what she was doing beyond remember lyrics. It was fun, she had to admit, and she even forgot where she was for a split second before there was clapping. Mitch ducked her head sheepishly, rubbing the back of her neck.Ā āThatās embarrassing. Sorry. I just...Iām really shit about performing in front of other people. Unless itās karaoke or Iām drunk. Either or.ā Still, she smiled a bit letting him know she had actually enjoyed it.Ā āIf anyoneās the natural, itās you Aiden...that was just a test anyway, right? Youāll give me something else to sing for real when itās time?ā She hoped that was how it would go, anyway. It would help her have a bit more confidence in what she was doing if heād already approved it. If only because it was his track, after all.Ā
