HERE ARE SOME OF MY FAV MOVIES!
I've been on a bit of movie watching spree and I thought I'd share some of my all-time favourite movies (the list is not in order by the way)! Hopefully you get some inspiration for your next watch! (No spoilers included!)
starting with the obvious: PROJECT HAIL MARY (2026)- I watched this back at the start of May for the first time and I have genuinely been obsessed ever since. this movie moved me in so many ways and I wholeheartedly believe that this is a movie for everyone. it's got sci-fi/fantasy/dystopian themes, political/drama themes and it's got platonic soulmates. this movie will make you scream, cry, throw-up, jump up and down, spin around, bounce off the walls, all of the above. it's got a beautiful soundtrack, amazing actors and i can't even begin to explain how incredible the cinematography is. I also love how they used real wire acting and a puppet for Rocky! this movie will stay with me for the rest of my entire life.
anyways moving on! the next one is LEGALLY BLONDE (2001)! - now I don't even know how many times I have watched this movie, just that I have been watching this movie over and over again since I was a wee babe. Now I do understand that this may not be a movie for everyone, but I love it so so much. If you love badass female characters who don't need no man, the colour pink, showing assholes where the door is, and cute wittle chihuahuas named bruiser then this is definitely the movie for you. the ending court scene will forever remain seared into my brain as one of the best scenes in the history of cinema <3
if you're looking for a animated cinematic masterpiece then look no further! HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON (2010) is just one of those movies that will stick with you forever. Berk is a place that my heart truly longs for and I will always be homesick for a home that I cannot go to. The soundtrack, the characters, the wonderful, amazing, beautiful story, everything about this film is just perfect.
You want a romance movie? You want a comedy movie? You want high school setting? You want fabulous actors? i got the film just for you! 10 THINGS I HATE ABOUT YOU (1999) is truly one of those 2000s (yes I know, it was released in 1999, but techincally most people would have seen it in the 2000s okayyy) romcoms that cannot be topped. I LOVE Kat Stratford, she is such a freaking icon and who doesn't adore Heath Ledger? He portrays Patrick so well and I genuinely love their story and romance. It wonderfully explores the heartwrenching themes of growing up while experiencing love and heartbreak, BUT it has just the right amount of cliches and cheesy lines that make it the perfect romcom ever.
the last movie I'm going to include in this list is AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON (2015). this is my absolute favourite Marvel movie ever. Now don't get me wrong, I adore other marvel movies like Guardians of the Galaxy and Spider-man and many others, BUT age of ultron has just stuck with me for so long, since i was just a kid. And you know what, I can't even tell you why this is my favourite because does it have the best soundtrack? No probably not, guardians of the galaxy takes that title, does it have all of my favourite characters? No, it has a lot of them, but we're missing the guardians and spider-man and Yelena and Bucky and Sam. Is it the most amazing storyline ever? Also probably not, BUT now that I have most likely not sold you on this movie, it is beautiful! it shows how wanting to protect something so much can end up hurting it, how everyone makes mistakes EVEN superheroes. it shows how humanity is flawed, but that's what makes us human! this movie is also a very very huge milestone in the MCU, it introduces Wanda, Pietro and Vision, shows the buildup to Civil War and also leads to Ragnarok. it's just perfect okay. no one can convince me otherwise.
there are so so many other movies that I love endlessly, but this list will have to do for now! I hope at least one of these resonates with you and if not that's okay (strange, but okay). feel free to share your favourite movies as well!

at some point in your life you will be boiling fruit, water, sugar, and lemon juice in a pot to make a syrup or jam. the instructions will tell you to simmer for a certain amt of time. your timer will go off and you will look at the pot and go, "hm, this doesn't look thick enough. maybe i'll let it go for another 10 minutes." this is the devil speaking. it's only so liquid right now because it is at boiling point. it will thicken when it cools down. learn from the follies of my youth and do not let this happen to you
at some point in your life you will be making a sauce or a stew in which you need to add cornstarch to thicken it. and you will prepare a slurry of starch in cold water and think "this looks like way too little starch to thicken this amount of liquid." this is the devil speaking. cornstarch instantly polymerizes at 95°C and if you add too much it will turn into an impossibly thick goop.
at some point in your life you will be making some sort of cream based dessert that requires gelatin to thicken it. and you will soak some gelatin sheets in water and think "this is too few gelatin sheets for this amount of cream." this is the devil speaking. it will thicken in the fridge and if you add too much you will end up with milk jelly
at some point in your life you will be baking cookies. you will take the sheet out after twelve minutes as the recipe instructs and the cookies will still be glistening and soft. "these don't seem cooked enough," you will think to yourself, "i should place them back into the oven until their edges are nice and golden." this is the devil talking. this is how you get dry, overdone cookies. the cookies will continue to bake on the warm sheet for several more minutes and then harden up after sitting on a rack for a while. trust the process. trust the process.
at some point in your life you will be adding a small pasta to a soup and you will think "that is not enough small pasta." this is the devil talking. the pasta will absorb the stock and expand. this is how you end up with a soup that is a solid mass of soggy ditalini.
At some point in your life you will be adding garlic to a dish and you will think "that is not enough garlic." These are angels speaking. They are correct. Add more garlic.
Imagine Ryland with someone who is his total opposite. I mean you're LOUD, you're energetic, you're EXCITED to be in space on a death trip just because it's cool (let's say you had nothing left on Earth or you're like really brave or smth). You're so like enthusiastic and bubbly and just EAGER. For EVERYTHING.
Imagine the whole scene with Rocky sending out those cannisters. The ship asks "Would you like to go on a space walk, Dr. Grace?" And he hesitates, because of course he does. He's not an astronaut. He doesn't want to be here. But he knows how to use the EVA suits. He's super reluctant. Then there's you. All smiles from ear to ear. "Grace. Grace I can. I can DEFINITELY go on that space walk if you don't want to."
But then he doesn't want you getting hurt and ends up going anyway with you. He pokes his head out of the airlock and, "Nope." He ducks his head right back in. You lean out, secured to the Hail Mary by your tether, and start to free float, knowing the tether will hold you. "GRACE WE'RE IN SPACE OMGOMG"
Imagine when Rocky comes aboard. The insurmountable chaos.
"WHERE MY BEDROOM, question?!"
"Bedroom?!"
And before he can say anything else, aghast at the alien's audacity, you're taking off after Rocky. "I'LL HELP YOU GET SET UP ROCKY!!!" :D
It's chaotic. It's hectic. But at long as he has someone so full of life and wonder even in this most dire of situations, he feels like he can do anything.

I had this idea,
Imagine a reader who was on the Hail Mary with Ryland Grace. They love their life on Erid, listening to the waves of the artificial beach as they fall asleep. Getting to teach the class of little pebbles with Grace every day. Spending time with Rocky and Adrian.
But the Reader is someone who misses the rain on Earth. The beach is lovely, and it’s amazing the Eridians managed to build the biodome at all! But they crave the way the rain smells after it falls, the sounds of it on the roof of their house, watching the ripples it creates in the water.
Ryland notices how they miss it. The longing for everything on Earth is real, but the rain was something that comforted them. So, he goes to Rocky and the biodome engineering team and explains to them the concept of Earth precipitation (assuming it’s different on Erid or they didn’t know before).
The reader is walking around their little house, brushing their teeth and getting ready for bed. Ryland offhandedly says “forecast says rain tomorrow,” with a smile. The reader rolls their eyes, thinking it’s a lame little joke he made.
But as they gently wake from their sleep to the sound of a pitter-patter on their roof. Their eyes slowly flutter open and they yawn, nose scrunched. They turn in bed and look out the window. Grace is already up, looking out of the window with a smile on his face. He turns to them as they walk over and watches their reaction expectantly.
They’re OVERJOYED to see it pouring from the artificial sky somehow, the sound of the raindrops on the ocean and the sand is music to their ears. The biodome team made rain, all for them.
They are loved and wanted so much by Grace, Rocky, all of the Eridians, that they’d make the sky fall to see them smile.
