Oh my, my, my. Where to start?
On being funny : IF THEY LAUGH, YOU ARE FUNNY. Period.
On being original : Originality is wildly overrated. I think if you really look at the things you love, you will find all of them are based on something else. Absolutely everything is either derivative or original depending on how you look at thing. All art is made up of smaller things we did not invent.
Heck, is your favorite writer a hack because they used the same alphabet and vocabulary as Ernest Hemingway?
Originality matters, but not nearly as much as quality. It is far better to make something good and funny than something original and awful.
On selfish motives : what, exactly, do you think motivates other artists? All artists have selfish motives. They want to be famous. They want to be rich. They want to be respected. They want to be read by millions.
Those are not the only motives, but trust me, nobody is as pure as you seem to think you are supposed to be.
Nobody is completely selfless. Give yourself a break and be human.
On being ISTJ : Holly Hannah, please stop letting that define you! Thsi is always the danger with any personality test.
I will keep this simple : I am an INTJ. In other words, I have the exact type you wish you had. Have you looked it up? According to the descriptions, I should be middle management. Or a lab drone. Nowhere in there does it say what I want to be, which is a writer.
So trust me, being an INTJ would not produce more creative seeming results. We are both tagged as dull, dull, dull.
But here’s the thing : it’s just a test. Just like an X-ray, it tells you things about who you are at that moment.
And if that Xray shows you have a broken bone, that doesn’t mean it till be broken forever. People change. They heal. They grow. You can’t reboot life or your brain, but you CAN choose which parts of you to pursue and encourage and which parts are to be ignored or destroyed.
Every heartbeat is a fresh start. Every dawn brings another day. It’s never too late to learn to fight your presets.
