For all intents and purposes, my dad is an awesome guy. Yet whenever I mentioned my dreams of being a musician, he always used to tell me “That’s a one in a million chance,” and that I was better to stick to writing. And then when I wanted to become a writer, he would tell me that I was better off trying to become an editor or something, because “then you’ll always have a secure job in the writing field.”

While I understand his point, i feel like after being on this planet for 22 years I have become kind of jaded, and lack the motivation to achieve my goals because there’s always going to be a part of me that doesn’t believe that they can realistically happen. My tenacity has lessened, and this upsets me greatly.
