I know there's a huge American fan base for the series but. They're British boys. Gaz is a London boy. Price is from Hereford. Ghost is from Manchester. Soap is from the Scottish Highlands (they dont specify where but his clan is from Argyll county) and he's bloody proud of it.

There's also some headcanons on their military service under the cut, since most fan works again use American military knowledge and not British. And the original series did not do it's homework so I'm correcting things

So anyway here's some thoughts on the boys and their backgrounds.

Gaz probably grew up battling London's shit buses, relying on the tube to get to college. He's a lad, always down for a few pints. Probably cheers when someone drops their glass and still calls it a 'cheeky nandos'. Absolutely knows the horrible histories kings and queens song by heart. Probably spent the world cup in the pub chanting "hey Jude" with the other blokes there. Proper city boy, probably grew up on a council estate and used to kick a ball around with his mates on the way back from school. Used to be in the Met Police so we all know he got grief off his old mates for being a plod.

Price absolutely started smoking in either middle or high school like most do. Used to sneak out behind the science block to have a fag. Grew up cycling around with his mates, only coming home when the street lights went on. Probably used to grab a chippy cone on the way home, with extra batter bits. Back then he used to pick up smokes for his parents too from the corner shop, because yes - kids could by cigarettes in the 80s. Was probably a cadet too, used to tell everyone at school he was going to join the army every 5 minutes. Absolutely has strong opinions on the Falklands. Threw his pint over that banner at the world Cup. I just know he played rugby at school.

Ghost is a Manchester lad. Definitely grew up on a council estate and got into a fight with a Man City fan during the derby in his teens. Will fight Liverpool fans. Probably used to go down to the corner shop to put a fiver on the leccy tag (fond memories of doing this myself). Probably spent some time with his family on benefits and used to protect Tommy from the bigger boys on the estate as well as his dad. His dad was probably on a no serve order at the local pub. Probably had social services come visit. Did not let anyone forget about the time the UK decided Manchester had the sexiest accent (correct).

Soap won't let you call him a Brit. He's a proud Scottish lad through and through. Would not stop shouting 'no Scotland no party' at Gaz until Scotland was eliminated, then immediately switched to supporting whoever was playing against England. Was always outdoors as a kid, drove his ma crazy with all the mud and sticks he brought inside. Constantly in detention at school for forgetting homework. Played rugby in school and used to get lifts home with his dad's mates after. He's catholic, big celtic supporter. Never got diagnosed with ADHD because it would affect his application to the army.

I often find myself wishing I could give my trans friends my facial hair or small chest, I dont care either way about those things - but they would make a world of difference to those people.

One hundred years ago this year- Togo, aged 12, ran 674 miles to deliver a life saving diphtheria serum to Nome.

He ran through white outs, thawing lakes and impossible odds. He was never recognised for this, because Balto ran the final 50 miles and crossed the line first. Togo was finally recognised for his efforts in 2001, 76 years too late.

I'm travelling to london for a gig and on the boat there was a lady struggling with her bags. Huge suitcases. People were tutting and complaining "it's always them" (black people) but there were 0 complaints about the old white lady who was also slowing people down.

I barged past the boomer couple trying to squeeze her into the side of the jetty and asked her if she needed help with her bags. She looked scared for a moment and then immediately thanked me. I carried the biggest bag onto the ferry. I waited for her when we got off and carried her bags to where she needed to get to.

I missed my train doing this. Her son was struggling with his suitcase and fell over. So what did I do? Picked up his bag and raced him to where his mum was waiting.

I got on the next available train, she did too. Turns out she got lost and this train was hers too. She told me she came here for work but with the rising cost of living, she can't afford to give her son a good life here. He's going home to Kenya while she scrapes together more money. That's why she has so many bags, they're all his things.

I realised she was initially worried about me storming over to her because im wearing my old Falklands war jacket. It has the flag on the arm. She just saw someone with the union jack after being judged so harshly and assumed the worst.

She's wearing her flag on her wrist, mine is on my arm. She's a good mother who's doing her best in a country that's increasingly turning on it's own people and immigrants.

We're sat together on this train.

I wish she wasn't on this train. I wish the flag on my arm didn't scare her. I wish England was a better place for everyone.
