I just got this reply from Tangent's tech support in response to a question I submitted several months ago: F1 "Reset All” function - It will reset the selected clip There are no functions assigned from F2 to F9 The Arrows Up and Down are for Layer Up and Layer Down, within the Layer Stack. For example if you have more than one Primary. The Alt button is used for getting into submenus, depending on which primary function is selected. For example selecting Overall and pressing Alt will get you into a a submenu for "Adding a Primary" or "Adding a Secondary"

Ever wondered if the moving images you were watching were really what they said they were? Mark Schubin does a great job laying out some of the issues which confound simple discussions around resolution, contrast, dynamic range, color depth etc.

i recently stumbled across this great example of how photography truly is "Painting with light". In it, Glyn Dewis demonstrates his technique for achieving an attractive black background for portraits, not by using any fabric, paint or wall hanging, but simply by ensuring there is enough difference in illumination between your subject and their/it's surroundings so that whatever background there is will be so under exposed as to not register on your camera. Sometimes the simplest solutions really are the most elegant.

Gordon Laing was initially refused a Pro Photographer's permit because his MFT camera didn't have a mirror. As I see it, this is an understandable mistake (and he was able eventually, to get the shots he'd wanted), but it begs the question, as imaging technology becomes increasingly sophisticated, where should the "professional" line be drawn?

I'm pretty impressed with this idea. Certainly one of the most creative solutions to the weight & portability issues often associated with dolly tracks. I wish they'd built it to work with an existing mini-dolly system, but beggars can't be choosers I suppose. . . 

I just came across this piece from Ryan Walters and I'm really impressed. He gives a great overview of what is needed if you want to really get familiar with your equipment and it's abilities.

It makes for an interesting read. As one might expect there's a fair amount corporate line being towed, but it's clear that Panasonic's approach to the camera market is a bit different from many of its competitors.

I need to do more digging on this, but it seems like a sensible solution to me, so I thought I’d share it.

I for one am looking forward to seeing this on the market.

This piece is a great example of how physically changing your perspective on a subject can really transform the way you present the story you're trying to tell. Definitely worth a read!
