im always so grateful to have grown up with the media that i did
cause like, i had my formative years in the 2010s which meant i grew up with the peak that was my little pony which really gave me a lot of confidence as a young girl. the show shaped me and my opinion of both femininity and strength and that they can co exist. that pretty girls who wear pretty dresses can go on adventures and solve problems and save the world.
another show that i feel really grateful for is ever after high, the show is not only drop dread gorgeous but it also does a surprisingly good job at explaining class inequality and oppression to little girls. this show was also my first experience with gay people lmao
ever after high was also a show where pretty girls were given the power to be strong and shape their own paths
i also think of a time where i talked with my mum and i didn't understand why she thought i wasnt able to be a pretty princess and smart and i'm reminded of how fortunate i am to have grown up being told its okay to be pretty and strong, and that i dont have to choose
i dont really know much about the current shows for young girls but i hope that they have the same experience of growing up to know that they dont have to sacrifice femininity to be strong or smart
tldr i grew up with media that showed me i can be a pretty princess and a badass and i'm forever grateful for that
