Metal Amy's lore
In Sonic The Fighters, Doctors Eggman uses a liquid metal robot called Metal Clone to imitate various characters by collecting their data.
This was originally written in Japanese in the booklet for the game Sonic Fighters.
The following is not fanfiction.
It was at one point the official narrative, but Sega is anything but consistent, even less so back in the 90's.
Whatever was written in those game manuals back then you had to take with a pinch of salt.
I mean like Tails was originally female in the Sonic 2 manual, even though officially they were male according to Sega, so it's not like these manuals are even that canon to the games themselves.

They were knocking out all the competition until they took the form of Rosy the Rascal.
Rosy's strong emotions overwhelmed the robot and it began to believe it was the real Rosy, taking Rosy's red hairband and placing it on her own head.
Running off to find Sonic, the real Rosy followed in pursuit and on finding Sonic Rosy asked Sonic to ask a question to tell them apart even though Sonic said that it wasn't necessary.
Sonic asked the pair what his favorite color was and Rosy excitedly yelled "Pink!" without thinking because she was pink and if Sonic really loved her he must like the color pink.
Sonic said "nuh uh. wrong answer." and Metal Clone said excitedly "it's red!" to which Sonic gave a thumbs up.
Rosy was angry with Metal Clone wondering how they could know Sonic better than her and for tricking Sonic into believing that she was the real girlfriend, but Sonic revealed that since Metal Clone had been collecting the data of the fighters they knew things that only Sonic himself would know, like his favorite color.
Metal Clone then started crying because they knew they weren't really Rosy without a shadow of a doubt and melted into a puddle of liquid metal.

You can see the plot is kinda similar to the anime movie and the movie Terminator 2 for some reason.
Sega did kinda recycle ideas a lot back then, Knuckles' character design for example is just an early concept art for Amy Rose herself.
Also the crying and melting into nothing might be a reference to a certain anime that was out at the time in Japan.
I think it's pretty funny that Amy got the answer wrong to be honest.
That is so her character, especially in this game's narrative.
Also Sonic's favorite color is wildly inconsistent in Sega lore, so don't take this as fact lol.
Yes I know their name is technically "Metal Clone", but given the lore, I kinda wanted to adopt the character as my persona unofficially.
I honestly don't think Sega is gonna bust down my door over this.

if they need a theme song..
