okay so! Their name is apollo! (Cannocially they prefer they/them but get he/him-ed cause he lowkey uses masc terms to refer to themselves, either out of dislike for himself or apathy)
and throughout the story they start to grow out their hair cause their new best friend is like…. If you only cut your hair to appease your mother, to remain the “perfect son poster child” why are you doing it? Cause your moms not here
They named themselves apollo cause they were 14 and reading the illad and are gayyyyy af (and demisexual) and their granddad (whose death is the catalyst for the story) last name was Solaris (i forgor how to spell its an italian last name) so apollo as in sun, sun as in sol
And their original best friend kai (indian, aromantic, acespec, homophobic dad, had been so platonically in love with apollo through highschool) called them moon boy (apollo as in moon mission, as in orbiting, as in things that never touch)
Anyways! And theough the story apollo also becomes more comfy with dressing better, like he ysed to wear just t-shirts and hoodies, but as the story progresses, their new bestie Soul buys them a skirt they were looking at and pretended bot to want. And they also a few weeks later go thrifting and but colorful fruity button ups :D because they named after sun and brightness, music and poetry, i feel that its fitting they step into bright clothes and stuff
They never gonna pass as a girl and they dont wanna so fruity gay boy who eventually gets like shoulder length ish hair (but it wavy so it kinda normally reaches below his chin)
