Perched high above a sea of green, the Monastery of the Fourfold Stillness lays hidden on a terraced cliff deep within the Star Mounts where wind, mist, and sunlight constantly shift.
At the foot of these mountains, a child was found, marked by a destiny no one could fully understand.
Elanna's path appears clear, as though it had been laid before her long ago. But a fateful encounter will turn her world upside down.
Will she follow the path chosen for her… or discover a truth that was meant to remain hidden?
The first part of my fic is set at a time long before the events of the game.
Sneak peak under the cut (no cw so far). Enjoy!

She does not remember the forest where she was born.
Her earliest memory is of heat: the crackling of a fire, and the rough wool of a cloak pulled snug around her shoulders. The flames bending towards her and embers responding to her breath.
A young wandering monk of the Monastery of the Fourfold Stillness had found her wrapped in bark-woven cloth at the edge of the High Forest lying among ferns and fallen leaves. There were no tracks. No broken branches. No blood. No signs of battle and no kin searching in the night. Whoever had left her there was either gone, or had never intended to return. The forest itself seemed to have swallowed whatever story had brought her there.
The monk waited until dusk. Then dawn. No one came.
He did not believe in chance. He believed that the world, like ki, flowed where it must. So, he carried her away with him—not out of mercy alone, but obedience. The balance of the world had placed her in his path. To him, that was reason enough.
The elven child grew up within the monastery’s stone walls, among chants and discipline instead of lullabies and playgrounds. High above the canopy but never apart from it. She was an incredible bundle of energy. From the time she could walk, she wandered freely into the forest under watchful eyes, learning the feel of soil beneath her palms, the language of wind in leaves, and the patience of roots breaking stone. Always full of curiosity and always with a beaming smile on her face.
She never knew another family. The monastery became her world. The Monks gave her a name: Elanna Emberglow. They taught her letters and languages and raised her as one of their own. Yet she was never quite like the others.
From the beginning, Elanna's ki burned hot. During meditation, the flames of the candles bent toward her hands as if curious. When frustration crept into her breathing, the air shimmered, as if heat rose from her. In winter, she ran warm when others shivered. With age her ki flared easily, rising when her emotions did, eager to become something more. Fire answered her anger, her will, her hunger for motion. To Elanna it felt like power. Like truth. Like life itself.

It made me wonder if there was something particularly self-indulgent in my writing and I actually found something: The Stoneheart Garden.
Every monastery I ever visited had a garden. A nice place for herb beds and flowers. For shrubs and little bushes. Besides, who says that the element Earth always has to be about stones and rocks? Isn't Earth also about soil and the plants that take root in it (There were lots of discussions with my DM about this topic ...)?
That's why I wanted to give my monks a place of retreat where they don’t have to talk to anyone. Where they can simply sit and be.
