I'm absurdly angry with the second season of the Devil May Cry anime on Netflix.
Mary/Lady arrived, destroyed Dante's life, her actions led to the death of Enzo (Dante's only friend), she tries to use Dante to "atone" for her actions (since she also feels guilty about the deaths of innocent Demons), she seduced him and then abandoned him (Why did Dante forgive her?).
Completely ignoring that it's not like a game, Vergil wouldn't have trusted Mundus, logically speaking, more so than because of his psyche. Demons killed Eva, demons tortured him, logically he wouldn't trust them (considering the vulnerability of the moment, and even then he wouldn't trust the same species that took his mother from him).
It was frustrating to the point where I started wishing the villain would win and take the lives of Mary/Lady, Dante, and Vergil (especially Mary). I understand the characters' psychology, their stories, their emotions, and yet it was like watching a car crash in slow motion.
I believe that, primarily, Dante wouldn't trust Lady, even if he fell in love with her. He wouldn't trust her, and after she lied to him about why she wanted to reunite him with Vergil (shortly after learning that his brother was still alive), he would likely harbor resentment towards her. (We're talking about Vergil, his last living relative, the only thing Mundus couldn't simply burn; or so I'd like to say...) He would surely mask his resentment, or perhaps hatred, with his superficial layer of jokes and sarcasm. Lady/Mary most likely wouldn't notice it when they first meet, but the moments of silence would reveal it clearly, and the physical distance would only make it more evident. For his part, Vergil would pretend to trust Mundus. He would keep his true feelings to himself, and when he discovers that Mundus was the one who ordered his mother's murder, it would simply intensify his existing hatred. But he would still believe that without power, he can't defend anything, least of all himself. Dante would likely be more inclined to convince Vergil to eliminate Mundus. together (as it had to be so that they could both carry out their revenge and finally settle their differences)
