Vergil told Nero not to play with the time manipulating amulet, but it was mostly Dante's faul, teasing him to the point where Nero grabbed the hellish artifact and wanted to throw at him. Well as he touched, Nero traveled time and now he finds himself at the manor of the Spardas.
The twins are mere children and the and more than curious about Nero suddenly showing up in their garden. Their mother, Eva - who indeed has the same look as Trish - altough first very catious with Nero's presence, but after Nero says a white lie about being a demon hunter and he accidentally showed up while tried to denaturalise an artifact, Eva becomes a welcoming host.
Both Dante and Vergil are very fascinated by the fact that Nero is a demon hunter, they want him to tell his adventures and well with leaving out crutial details about the future, he tells them. Maybe he has a soft spot to children or he just want to give something nice to the twins before everything happens.
Nero has to admit, altough the twins clearly more friendlier with each other than in his time, their need of rivaling keeps showing up, Nero finds himself being pulled by the hand toward two ways because while Vergil wants Nero to explore the library with him, Dante wants to play with wooden swords.
Eva comes to the rescue, calming down her children and announcing that their father arrived home. The twins rush away to greet the man, but Nero froze in spot. Even with everything he knows, it still feels weird that Sparda once lived as a human, that he is the father of Vergil and Dante and well, the grandfather of Nero.
Nero of course joins the greeting comminity, he is a tolorated house quest and when Sparda - Who looks like the uncanny mix of Vergil and Dante and nothing like the holy depictions in Fortuna - lowers his eyes to Nero, he froze.
Maybe it's his demon side that recognise the raw power that Sparda enbodies even in his human form. A human form that clearly ages, he passed his prime long ago, but Nero feels intimidated. But in the next moment, Sparda places his hand on Nero's shoulder, give him a good squeeze and he smiles at him with that familiar toothy grin just like Dante does.
Sparda welcomes Nero in his house, even offers the seat beside him during the dinner. The twins fight over the food, not like Eva didn't make plenty and Sparda just laughs at them, not really helping his wife, only saying its just their little demon showing.
After dinner, Sparda invites Nero into his study, a place that highly forbiden for the twins and both Dante and Vergil sends him jealous look. Nero just shows his tongue to them, well once he is included to know something that the twins doesn't.
The study is a very gloomy and dim place, the thick curtains blocks any light, Sparda light candles. The walls covered with books, artifacts, ornaments, it reminds Nero the castle of Fortuna, maybe he had a taste for these type of things afterall. Sparda offers him a drink and Nero accept it. The man looks a bit broody, even concerned and Nero's fight or flight activates again.
"I know you are from the future." Sparda says. "You smell like my sons, I assume you are a son of one them."
"Vergil's." Nero croacks and the drink is a good way to keep him busy.
Sparda hms, then he turns to him, once again his heavy hand claps his shoulder. "Did you told them anything? About the future?"
"Good. You shouldn't. I can send you back, in the morning. They won't remember you, when you...Well, you know." He smiles and Nero has a feeling Sparda knows about everything that about to play down.
Nero leaves and makes his way to the twins room, he promised a bed time story about his demon hunting. When he steps inside, only one bed is occipied, Dante and Vergil cuddles to each other like little kittens, clearly about to fall asleep. Nero can't help just smile at them, it is hard to imagine in the future they beat each other until one of them is a bloody lump.
He sats down on the floor beside the bed and he brushes both of their cheeks. They are just children, who has no idea what hardship coming to them. What they about to do to each other. Something twist in Nero's stomach. It just not fair to them, they did nothing wrong, how many tragedies can Nero prevent if he tells them everything. But Sparda's concerns about the changing future...
"Nero...?" Vergil asks softly, Dante is doozing off beside him, only murmurs some words about he isn't asleep.
"Even if you two argue a lot..." Nero says, he needs to keep his promise but wants to help, he has to be careful. "Dante will never hate you. And he needs you, more than anything."
Vergil squeezes Dante a bit more, then he noods.
"And never ran away from him." Nero adds. "If you...If you feel like angry at him, just kick him in the shin, but don't run away. It is very important. Can you...Can you promise me?"
He notice how desperate he sounds, maybe with this decesion he prevents his own birth, Vergil never going to Fortuna, never meets his mom, but its okay, if there is no place to go back, then he stays and well, face Sparda's punishment, but who cares, he is here so he will help.
When morning come, Sparda use his own time traveling artifact to send back Nero and he indeed sends him back. To the exact point, when Nero wants to grab the item to throw at Dante. But before it happens, he frozes and he looks around.
Vergil and Dante continue to argue about displaying and containing hellish items and they completly ignore Nero who just stands in the middle. Then he starts laughing, Dante and Vergil argues just like did as a kid over who getting a last slice of meat or who choices the next game they play with Nero.
His sudden laugh interupts the harsh words, the twins looks at him as if he went completly insane. Then Nero goes to them, grabs their hand and push to him, some sort of hug.
"You are such a kid..." He even gives them a noogie.
Nero just happy this two idiots now reunited.
