hello! i am doing a small giveaway because christmas is just around the corner and i know that not everybody has a photobook from makestar. so i decided, since i got an extra, i’m just gonna give it away. the giveaway consists of:

Idols are meant to be pretty, fun, cute, and flirtatious, so that fans can fantasize about being with them which drives sales of branded merchandize.

An Idol that has romantic or sexual pursuits is no longer perceived as available, in addition to it conflicting with fetishized virginity.

Basically, the Idol industry in Japan is the epitomy of a misogynistic sex-sells industry where the product is a fantasy relationship with a woman who is performing to make herself desirable. 

Many, many idols are extremely salty about this and will go to great lengths to mock and disparage the system, but they can’t do much to get it changed or go against it because their entire career will be destroyed if it is publicly discovered that they have or have had anything close to a relationship or sex.

And the companies absolutely do fire idols who do so, and destroy any potential they have as a career public figure for the rest of their lives. It’s horrifying.

When you go to a haunted house, it may seem like you’re being funny by trying to scare the actors or jump out at them when you go through a second time, but guess what? ITS NOT FUNNY.

You pay us to scare you. It is your choice to go, so don’t fucking go through if you’re going to ignore the rules and get too close to the actors as a ‘joke’.

These bruises happened because over the course of 4 hours, several people ignored the instructions that CLEARLY stated that they were to wait in the front room until told otherwise. Rather than listen, they ran into the next room and slammed into me- effectively throwing me into the wall. This didn’t only happen once. It happened ten times at LEAST.

Then we had this asshole who thought that once I ‘died’ for the haunt, he could pretend to kick me to see if I’d moved. I, being used to people abusing me- jumped back and slammed my head into the concrete wall.

YOU ARE NOT FUNNY BY BEING RUDE AT A HAUNTED HOUSE. WE ARE PAID ACTORS THAT YOU CHOOSE TO COME AND SEE PERFORM. YOU PAY US TO SCARE THE SHIT OUT OF YOU, SO DONT HIT US WHEN WE DO

I work at a Haunted House every October, and have been for the past few years. Our house in particular is staffed by Volunteer workers who are either earning credits for Graduation, or people who know the Family that owns the haunted attraction. In our City, we’re one of two Haunted Houses, so while we open in late September, we tend to get incredibly busy during the month of October and often work from 6pm until 2, 3am on weekends. 

We do not get paid to help out. Due to our location, we get a lot of drunk guys coming through, and a lot of ‘funny’ teenagers. In my several years working there, I’ve seen Actors get grabbed and thrown, stomped on, kicked, bitten, everything. A lot of the Actors at this attraction are young teenagers, Middle and Secondary School students, so this kind of abuse is terrifying and potentially emotionally scarring.

There’s a position half-way through the house we call ‘Psych Ward’, and it’s essentially a jump scare. The scare is a corner-room, boxed in with walls and broken windows, that the Actor pops out of and shouts and taunts the people going through. October, 2012, a couple were going through the Psych Ward corner and the scare went off as per usual. The girlfriend of this couple got very startled but laughed it off and continued on. The boyfriend, however, back-tracked and went up to the broken window and punched the Actor in the face for scaring his girlfriend. The Actor, who I’m going to call Tracy, had a black eye for a good two weeks solid and the couple had to be escorted out of the house and were banned from the property. Ever since we’ve ruled that Veteran Actors (someone who’s been there for 3+ years) are the only ones allowed in this particular Scaring Spot.

He paid to get scared and then got violent when we delivered.

There are so many stories I can tell of ignorant customers banging back on scares and injuring the Actors inside, grabbing props from the actors and hurting them with it, destroying props because they thought it would be ‘funny’. 

I just want to raise awareness that the ACTORS ARE STILL PEOPLE. We’re instructed to get the best kind of scare out of you, sometimes with no pay at all (like this particular attraction), so please respect our work.

LEARN HANGUL

please, PLEASE, learn the alphabet. i promise you that it’s not as hard as it looks. I used the app memrise (there are many different resources as well) to memorize it and listen to the sounds. It took me a max of 2 days to completely memorize it and know the basic sounds each letter/syllable makes. This should be the first step in learning korean!

DON’T USE ROMANIZATION

tbh i rlly dislike romanzation and here are the reasons why: romanizaing depends on who is writing the romanization. One word could have a different sound to someone else’s ears. Also, this only keeps you from actually being able to read and understand korean as a whole. Cutting out romanzation can benefit your speaking, reading, and writing ability! I know some people say it does “help them” but pls…just…don’t use it. ALSO PLEASE DON’T USE IT TO ‘write’ IN KOREAN. YOU AREN’T SPEAKING KOREAN BY DOING THAT, WE CAN’T UNDERSTAND YOU. JUST USE HANGUL. 

LOOK UP THINGS IN NAVER

example, if you are watching ur fav korean show and you hear a word that you have heard before but are not quite sure what it means..type that baby into naver dictionary and try to find other meanings too or smaller words made from that word or even try to make sentences with it! Have fun with learning! I personally love learning new words even if its something small like “seal (y’all it means water dog in english in its literal translation isnt that cute af)

KEEP A JOURNAL/DIARY IN KOREAN

honestly this tip helped me so much in my learning. Just idk everyday or week or whenever, just take time to write a sentence or two using the words you learned that day/week and try not to look up words while writing them. After you finish that diary entry, then try to ask yourself questions you might have about then sentence (ex; is this subject particle correct, does this even make sense to me) and then google those questions you have! Maybe if you know someone who is willing to help with your korean they can help make corrections to your sentence(s) as well~

DON’T SET OUTRAGEOUS SCHEDULES AND STANDARDS

setting up a schedule and goals can be a good motivator but making them unreachable can really damage your learning process. Especially if you have little time to realistically study all the time, then don’t make your study schedule so crazy! Learning for maybe an hour a day, 3 times a week may seem like a small amount of studying but in the long run you will still see improvement! Don’t set big goals like “i want to be fluent in a year!” because tbh, you’re more than likely not gonna be fluent in a year i’m sorry. Set goals like “i want to be able to read this sentence by the end of this week!” because then you don’t give yourself a huge work load and stress over something. Take your time! there is really no rush.
