are you able to "summon" alters to front without triggering them? If so, how?

i figured this would be a pretty good place to ask. what's it like to be a subsystem? for you specifically, but i'm also curious about broad experiences. i understand that it's incredibly variable, but i was curious about making my own and i wanted to see from others, the different forms they might take

Avidan here, subsystem of three! Our system as a whole does have a Headspace where each alter other than me has a discrete body (Shiloh is a shapeshifter, but that's neither here nor there). I, however, have only one body (*usually*) for the three that are me. I'm using singular language because unlike the larger system around me, I feel more or less like one person until I dont, rather than like three people all the time. When I do feel seperate, and this feels very goofy to put into words, it's like a Matroska doll situation. I'm in the normal headspace, where I can see, like, Shiloh, but then I also have my own personal mind to contend with, which doesn't really have a defined headspace but I can tell what each part looks like.

The concept that married people live longer is interesting. I'm sure there is some merit to the idea that if you're married there is someone there to nag you about going to the doctor, but I think much larger factors are having the finances of dual incomes and access to an immediate support person.
