If someone haven’t read Inkheart I highly recommend you do do so because it’s a very good book.

Tbh the connections between Inkheart and dear Wormwood is so cool! I friggin love that book to death, and mayhaps you'll find some interesting story connections in Through The Deep, Dark Valley album hehehhehehe (for me, I see the most connection to Dustfinger in that album!)

The Purity. Otherwise known as The Dull, the you do not belong here, the Cleansed. It’s a fear of being othered. The sense that you are hated to the point that those around you wish for nothing but your destruction or absolution. You do not know who holds this perspective of you, you just know people do. It’s like the precursor to the slaughter. Not the violence itself but the promise of potential violence. It’s the feeling of knowing you are hated so deeply over factors you do not understand as being wrong.

It’s a fear apparent in all walks of life. We more commonly see it in the marginalised communities like the LGBTQ+ (Particularly for trans folk), in the ASD community (and similar neurological disabilities), in ethnic minorities or in outcast religious sects. What’s notable is that it also appears in those we fear the hatred of. Right wing Americans fearing the destruction of their way of life, anti-vaxer parents worrying their children will experience contrary states of being to what they want due to the preconceived effects of inoculations, people hating on the Jewish religion and culture or on Muslim culture because.. I actually don’t know why? There’s arguments I hear for why people are intolerant towards the former cases but I have no clue why some people just flat out hate Judaism or Muslims. For the latter maybe it’s a terrorism thing? No idea.

I suppose what can combat this is community, helping your neighbors and those marginalized by the same thing hoping to destroy you. Its definitely a real fear that I find myself giving into, but remembering that we're not alone and have the ability to fight back when we're together in a community is such a powerful thing to remember.
