sokka finally joins my ATLA series! you can view the rest of my atla series belowβ¬οΈ
Once when the gaang visits the Fire Nation, theyβre all just on the side of too tipsy when Zuko leans in with the most grave expression imaginable.
βAang,β Zuko says, βThis has beenβ¦ haunting meβ¦. Why did your friends need to suck on those frogs?β
And Aang just gasps, and does not explain the frogs, because he has suddenly remembered that Miyuki is still wanted by the Fire Nation and that just wonβt do.Β So Aang demands that Zuko pardon Miyuki for her crimes, which then gets the rest of the gaang to dogpile on and also demand justice for Miyuki.Β
Zuko is willing to hear him out.Β
β¦Zuko is significantly less willing to hear him out when Aang mentions that Miyuki is a cat.
(Zuko finds it difficult to believe that a cat is legitimately wanted by the Fire Nation)
But because they are all the worst, he relents and they all drunkenly stumble down to go find the records of Miyukiβs crimes and write her up a pardon, much to the chagrin of the night-shift archivist.
Zuko, staring blankly at Miyukiβs rap sheet:
The gaang:
Zuko:
Zuko: I donβt β¦. I donβt think I can pardon thisβ¦
Sokka: It canβt be that bad! Let me see-
Sokka:
Zuko: You see what I mean?
Toph: Is anyone going to tell me what it says or am I just going to have to wait in suspense? Β

Ugh I will always love the concept of Katara using blood bending to revive Zuko after the last agni kai, mostly because it makes no sense to me that Zuko was able to bounce back so easily after being struck by lightning, but also because the way the show treats bloodbending is just odd to me. It was a defense mechanism created by a traumatized victim of some of the most devastating parts of colonization, and although I understand that Hama was supposed to symbolize the "bad parts" of waterbending and was important for Katara's growth in realizing that the world isn't entirely black and white, its still disappointing to me that the show never explored the gray areas of blood bending, especially since that episode was, as I stated above, about understanding the gray areas of the war. Katara using blood bending to revive Zuko would add so much to the last agni kai in demonstrating that she has truly realized that "good" and "evil" are relative concepts, and Zuko being saved by both a defense mechanism of a survivor of colonialism and a type of bending used to terrorize his people would have even added to his arc, as the narrative required him to save and subsequently be saved by the physical embodiment of everything his family sought to annihilate.
Also, if we look at blood bending as a cautionary tale about if oppressed people suddenly had power over their oppressors, Zuko willingly giving Katara that kind of power over him and Katara using that power not for evil but for good is a great way to explore the full circle of both their arcs.
Harvey's photoshoot with Mike Ruiz for Photobook Magazine has been published, along with a short interview covering his career and ambitions! Read a few of his responses below:
You have become somewhat of a trailblazer for what is possible for queer, Latinx actors. Who are your biggest role models and inspirations when it comes to performing? My on-screen role models were pretty limited. I found inspiration in watching Cantinflas, a Latino comedian, with my dad. Watching people like Salma Hayek and Antonio Banderas represent Latinos on the big screen helped keep me hopeful. Iβm happy to report that Iβve worked with both of them. From βWhat We Do in the Shadows,β to βThe Magicians,β there is a slight recurring theme of supernatural or fantasy. What draws you to these types of projects and roles? In both 'The Magicians' and 'Shadows,' anything is possible. I love the idea that there are no limitations on where our characters can go, so Iβve always been drawn to that. I was never specifically seeking to be in these particular genres, but Iβm so happy to be a part of them. In addition to on the screen, you have an extensive portfolio of voice acting credits. How does working behind a microphone compare to working on the camera? Doing voice-over has been such a wonderful experience. I didnβt really start doing V.O. work until the pandemic. Itβs a tough door to get through. The pandemic brought these opportunities to me. It was the only work that I was able to do safely at the time. Since then, my portfolio has doubled in voice-over work. All the characters I get to play are so different from each other. I get so excited when people come up to me and mention they're fans of a character I voice. Either voice acting, on camera, or on the stage, are there any dream roles you would love to play? As a musical theatre kid, Iβd obviously love to do Broadway. Iβd also really love to host SNL one day. In addition to acting, you're also involved in advocacy work, particularly in the LGBTQ+ field. What inspires you to use your voice and platform for good? I try to use my platform to help anyone that I can, especially those in the LGBTQ+ and Latino community. For so long, I didnβt see anyone advocating for someone like me so I do the best I can to amplify their voices while bringing awareness to those communities. With βWhat We Do in the Shadowsβ heading into its sixth and final season, whatβs next for you? Anything fans should look forward to? Weβre about to wrap in two weeks from the time this interview is published. That being said, itβs bittersweet. We recently said goodbye to our exterior set, and it was really emotional. I committed to this character for half a decade, which is no small task. Itβs become such a big part of my life, and Iβm thankful for all the lives weβve touched through comedy. Season 6 will air later this year. Iβll have projects like βCompanionβ and βGarfieldβ out this year as well as a couple others. Iβm excited to see whatβs next!
