I’m going to share something I wrote on November fourth, because many of you need to hear it. I apologize for any grammatical errors.
Tomorrow is election day, and I’ve been seeing a lot of people lately say that if Kamala Harris loses, it’s the fault of leftists being “Up on their high horses”. I’d like to push back on that.
Ever since Biden dropped out, Harris has been given everything. The candidacy was just handed to her, as was the democratic party. The worst part, in my opinion, is that every single person left of Reagan is now expected to vote for her. I find this fucking ridiculous. Harris has vowed to support Israel, and by proxy its genocidal campaign against the Palestinian people. Why on earth should folk just be expected to give her their vote, when their vote is their only real voice in America?
Of course, the counterargument usually revolves around abortive rights or queer rights. People say that this is the most important election of our lifetime, and that the vote is democracy or dictatorship. The people who say this are like dogs eating, there’s only a focus on the present, absolutely no foresight. Yes - as it pertains to me personally - this election sees transgender rights dangle over a pit filled with spikes, and a candidate who vows to cut the string holding them up. However, I ask those who fear monger about this: where will we be in four years?
As I predict, the pit will be deeper, the spikes will be sharper, and there’s a chance that by then both candidates will wield scissors. In America, it has been around forty years since a democratic politician has ever seen consequences for their lack of decency, and it needs to happen sooner than later.
The clearest thing about this election to me is that if Kamala Harris loses, it is entirely her own fault. She is the one who’s moved closer to the center even as the populus moves closer to the left, she is the one who’s demonized people who don’t vote for her, she is the one who doesn’t speak even a little on her own beliefs, but instead entirely on her opponent’s. And yet, everyone throws her a party everytime she opens her mouth. A month or two ago, she said in an interview that she owned a glock, and people legitimately made edits of that. That confuses me to no end, because literally how would that come across as badass? Saying you own a glock is like saying you like pringles. It’s fair enough - glocks and pringles are great - but it’s nothing special, and certainly nothing badass. This is America, go buy a 1911 or something. (I’m joking about that, glocks genuinely are fine)
Anyway, the point is that though some may fear what happens if we show our politicans consequences in this electiom, I’m more afraid of what will happen if we wait til the next. Things will only get worse, and it seems like we’ve now arrived or are going to arrive at the last stop before oblivion. Will we get this chance in 2028?
A lot of people view Harris as a transition candidate, but I doubt she’ll accept being that. She seems to view herself as an agent of change despite lacking any policies of change
