60 Days of Magnus Bane → 54/60

i love the contrast between s1 and s2/s3 magnus.

s1 magnus is the most hidden version of magnus that we see. here, he’s still playing the role of confident seducer, the wise man with all the answers. sure, there are cracks in the armor – we hear him talking about how his mother killed herself, we hear him talking to ragnor about being vulnerable – but in general, this is magnus with a facade on, whose main goal is to rediscover his own happiness, but also is to pull alec out of his comfort zone and to help alec learn to be honest with himself. in s1, magnus himself isn’t the priority yet – the focus now is on alec, and helping alec, and so as a result magnus doesn’t really have the space to be vulnerable/imperfect when it’s all about making sure alec is okay.

s2/s3 magnus, though… this is real magnus. this is the side of magnus most people don’t get to see, but we as viewers get to go on alec’s journey as he starts to discover who magnus bane really is. as alec becomes bolder, magnus becomes less so, because it’s one thing to recognize that his relationship with alec is far deeper than he might’ve guessed, but it’s a whole other thing for him to willingly share the ugliest parts of himself with the person he’s starting to love the most. this side of magnus – the less glam, less perfect, more loving and human and sweet, is the side that’s scarred with rejection and heartbreak. and when that’s the side of magnus that began emerging, alec took it upon himself to fill in those gaps and let magnus know that he’s a good man, that he’s just right for alec, that he’s not a demon, that he’s just magnus.
