Barbie is about choice but not in the blind “every choice a woman makes is feminist even if it’s influenced by the patriarchy” kind of way. But because she truly did self reflection on herself and society’s influence on her.

The ending has her joining a world where not only will she die, she will lose the looks that society values her for by aging. She looked at a visibly aged, confident old woman at the bus stop and said “i want to turn out like her”.

That woman didn’t try to be humble when Barbie called her beautiful, she said “i know”. And that response from her, is considered “conceited” or “vain” by patriarchal society. You’re not supposed to know your beautiful under this system, especially when you’re old, with wrinkles, and not thin.
