Born in Vallejo California to a Panamanian mother and a Filipino father, she later moved to New York City in the 1960s and cultivated a following in Greenwich Village with her eccentric lyrics and unusual time signatures. She managed a hit in 1966 with “Walkin’ my Cat Named Dog” and made a few television appearances, but her other singles failed to gain the same traction. She wrote for other artists for a while and eventually dropped out of the music business to become a teacher. In recent years her song “You’re Dead” was featured on the New Zealand comedy series What We Do in the Shadows, sparking interest in her music again for a new generation of fans. She is currently releasing new music under her own name also with several side-projects, most notably Baboonz and HybridVigor.
