One Day At A Time

Yesterday would have marked the 3 year anniversary of being engaged. I looked back on those photos and saw a girl who was so hopeful and so naive. A girl who knew deep down that this wasn’t going to work - a gut feeling that I tried to ignore.

But I wanted to believe in the dream of a beautiful wedding and a happy marriage with her.

Time and time again, I ignored my intuition. I caught her in lies and the many red flags were dismissed. “I’m just overreacting. I’m being the crazy gf.”

I wasn’t. I never was. She wanted me to feel like there was something wrong with me. Little by little she whittled away at my trust in myself. She wanted to keep me small. She wanted me to be reliant on her.

I look back now and wish I could hug myself in those moments…

It’ll all fall apart, but it’ll be the best thing that’s happened to you. You will find your voice and your strength. Your trust in yourself will grow. You’ll find that you don’t need a partner to be happy. As Christina Yang would say, “[She’s] very dreamy, but [she] is not the sun. You are."
