Mega Camp was perfect
I canât even explain how wonderful that experience was and how loved I feel right now. The husband is down for 2020 in St. Louis so start saving up lol.
@mega-camp
If anyone wants to run a Mega Camp in the future or a camp for you own particular fandom, just let me know over on @dani-kin.  I will happily share all planning info and what we learned works/doesnât work!!!

Hubbykin wanted to watch Megamind as soon as we got home! Thank you for converting my husband to the Blue Dick!!
is there a discord or some other chat for people going to camp? i am a big time lurker and it would be nice to talk to some of the other people who are going.
Nothing on discord that I know of, but there is a facebook event which you can get to here:
https://www.facebook.com/events/123597081598570/Â
Ollo friends! Quick question: which days are the field trip events planned on? And specifically for ren faire, I was wondering when during the day we'd go and how long we'd stay, if we're going in a big group? Or do we head up there in our own car for whatever time we please? It looks like a lot of fun but I'm wondering how much energy/spoons I'll need and trying to plan ahead :)
Ahh this would be an excellent time for me to post a copy of the schedule!  Iâll go do that right nowâŚ..
Ok, back.  If you look at the newly posted schedule, weâre going to the Ren Faire on Sunday. The plan is for people to caravan over around 10 and stay for most of the day, coming back for dinner at 6. Of course if you would rather just drive yourself because youâre worried you might want to leave early, thatâs fine too. Whatever works for you yo. Â
Going is totally optional (and Iâm not going, I want to stay back at the camp, sit by the lake, and do fuckall :D) So donât feel pressured. Â

How to Pack Luggage?
EXCITING ANNOUNCEMENT!!!
!!! AAAAHHHH I AM SO EXCITED!!
OKAY SOâ
You may recall me talking about how I was working on a script for a musical theatre version of Megamind.
I am VERY PLEASED to announce that the script is COMPLETE and that it is going to be UNVEILED at Mega Camp, where we will be doing a READING of it!! The reading is happening Sunday night at 7:30pm!
Now, in order to make the reading as enjoyable as possible, I need your help!
During the reading, I need volunteers to help by playing the parts. A script reading is much more informal than an actual performance, so thereâs no need to be nervous; the emphasis here is on having fun. Itâs going to be more like a game rather than a show.
Each participant will get a script, and they will read their lines from the script during the reading as they act out their parts. So thereâs no need to worry about memorization. The songs, too, are very simple; I wrote them so that they are easy to sing.
There are lots of partsâall of the characters from canon, plus some characters from the Doom Syndicate: Hot Flash, Lady Doppler, Psycho Delic, and Destruction Worker. Not to mention the brainbots and the random citizens!
Iâm going to post all of the songs, so that you all can hear them ahead of timeâeveryone is invited to sing along with the chorus parts.
Again, do not feel worried about having any experience with acting, or about whether youâre âgoodâ at singingâthis is all about having fun! And if youâre shy, there is always a place for you as a citizen or in the brainbot swarm!
Iâm going to be playing Megamind, but all of the other parts are open.
If you are interested in playing, please let me know, and I will send you the script, so that you can read it ahead of time and feel more comfortable.
I am really proud of this script, and I am so excited to share the musical theatre version of Megamind with you all!Â
I am absolutely excited to play any part you give me. Â
Come on guys, volunteer up ;-)

Hey, Wisconsin dweller here! A tip regarding the Bristol Renaissance Faire, you can get discount tickets at Walgreens!
Yep, Walgreen and Menards!  If people want to get their tickets early, all the Walgreens and Menards in Southern WI and Northern IL sell them. There is even a Walgreens in Burlington on your way to the Faire, so save yourself $3 and buy them there. Usually they are $26 at the gate. Â

Camp Field Trips
So as much fun as weâre going to have at camp, we also have a couple trips planned to attractions close to camp. Â Each of these will cost you a little extra money on top of your camp fee, but we think they are worth it! Â So where are we going you may ask? Â
Bristol Renaissance FaireÂ
Welcome to one of the biggest Renaissance Faires in the US! Â There are dozens of shows through the day including music, comedy, and jousting, as well as village worth of shops including garb, food, alcohol, jewelry, and all sorts of fascinating shiny things. Â Costumes are highly encouraged!
You will be responsible for your own admission fee and the costs of any food and souvenirs. Â
AepelTreow Winery and Distillery
Whose up for a little drinking? Â This Wisconsin establishment creates apple and pear based wines, ciders, perry, brandy and whiskey! Â
They offer tastings for $5 a person. Â Youâre responsible for the cost of any additional liquor you may buy. Â
Adrianâs Frozen Custard
No, its not frozen pudding. Â Frozen Custard is a creamier cousin to ice cream and a regional food unique to Wisconsin. Â So of course I canât have yâall come here without trying some for yourself! Â And every good Wisconsin girl knows that the best frozen custard comes from rando mom & pop places in little towns just like Adrianâs. Â You will be responsible for the cost of your own cone. Â
Hope you guys are ready!

Just to clarify on alcohol:
Since some people have asked, here is the full deets
You can absolutely bring alcohol if you are over 21
Donât give/buy the underagers booze. Seriously we could all get kicked offsite. Â
Drink responsibly so no drinking and driving or boating or swimming
The camp fridge will be full of food for most of the weekend, so we canât guarantee any space to keep your booze cold. Plan on drinking whatever it is warm. Â
What Should I Bring?
Greetings, intrepid camper! You may be wondering âhow did I get myself into this mess?â or âwhat even does one bring camping??â Well fear not, brave soul, we have compiled a handy dandy guide just for you first, second, or hundredth-timers. Because we love you.
This guide is divided into convenient sections for your perusal. Should our grouping stay within 35 people then everyone will have a cabin in which to stay, which will negate the last part of the guide.
This is My First Camping Trip, Please Help Me.
Yourself (glad to have you on board, it wouldnât be a party without you!).
Your photo ID or passport. This should stay with you at almost all times.
Clean clothes for 4 days and 3 nights stay.
At least 4 pairs underwear/bras and socks, we recommend at least 1 extra of each just in case.
Shorts/pants/skirts for 4 days. At least 1 pair should be long pants.
Shirts/tank tops for 4 days.
Pajamas for 3 nights.
Pair of good walking shoes or hiking boots.
A hoodie (for us cold blooded lizard folk to wear at night to disguise our scaled faces with).
Optional: Swimming suit.
Optional: Sandals/swimming shoes.
Optional: Hat to keep the sun off your head.
Optional: Sunglasses or clip ons.
Optional: A hooded rain jacket (so you donât melt if it rains).
Optional: If you are attending Bristol Renaissance Faire you may wish to bring your own costume. Costumes of any kind are welcome, so long as you donât have any exposed steel or walk around in just pasties.
Optional: If you are attending the wine tasting at the vineyards you might opt for something super fancy to make you feel classy.
Toiletries
Your prescription medications.
Toothbrush.
Toothpaste.
Shampoo and conditioner.
Body soap.
Deodorant.Â
Sunscreen.
Bug repellent.
Sandals to shower in (no, really, get a pair of cheap flipflops to shower in).
Hair brush and/or comb.
Optional: Pads or tampons if shark week strikes.
Optional: Hair ties if you are of the long haired persuasion.Â
Optional: Glasses or contact cleaning solutions if you are a cyborg.
Optional: Shaving razor.
Optional: Skin lotion.
Optional: Hair dryer.
Optional: Makeup and hair styling products.
Phone and charger.
Flashlight and spare batteries.
Folding camp chair (if you are not flying in).
Optional: Binoculars.
Optional: Field guides.
Optional: Reusable water bottle with belt clip for hiking.
Optional: A book to read, useful if you have to wait for a pickup.
Optional: Laptop/tablet and charger. There is wifi, but it isnât the greatest.
Optional: Camera, film, and extra batteries or charger.
A special note to our international visitors: Donât worry about packing shampoo, conditioner, toothpaste, soap, skin lotion, sunscreen, or bug repellent. If you do not have a special requirement and are not staying in the States before or after camp. Roki will happily provide those things for you. Just let us know in advance so she can be made aware to bring extra. This is to help with getting past TSA because their liquid requirements can be pretty screwy. If you are staying in the States before or after it will be easier on you to purchase those items once here. It saves you in airline baggage weight coming into the States and you cannot bring them with you as a carry on to help with that.
If you want to know more about that, check out this post: Travelling to the States from Canada. Bear in mind that it will differ from country to country and between airlines even, but itâs a good starting point.
I am Staying in a Cabin
The cabins provide mattresses, so air mattresses are not required.
A pillow.
An extra blanket if you think you will need it.
Your own set of sheets (twin or full).
I am Staying in a Tent or Sleeping on an Air Mattress
Your tent (or negotiate with someone to have them provide you one).
Rain fly for tent.
Stakes.
Tarp to put under tent.
Rubber mallet for stakes.
Optional: Small mat/bag to put shoes on inside tent. Prevents bugs getting in them, but also tracking mud inside.
Pro-tip: If you can, zip your tent so that the zippers are at the top of the door. This prevents curious critters from grabbing them at night.
A blow up mattress or sleeping mat.
Pump for blow up mattress.
Batteries for the pump if needed.
Bedding.
A sleeping bag to put over the mattress (put this down before the sheets to prevent loss of body heat through the night).
Sheets.
Pillow.
Spare blanket (if needed).
A tent lantern and extra batteries for it.
Optional:Â Clip on tent fan and batteries for it.

Sometimes we get questions....
You have two weeks left to register folks!  All registrations and deposits must be received by July 1st to guarantee your spot at camp!! Â
But for now, lets answer some real questions from real campers......
Q:Â How long do we get in the ball pit?
A: 1 extra hour. Beyond that we promise nothing.
So basically it will be just like Dash only like without the fiscal mismanagement and with the outdoors and stuff. Yeah. Â
PS: My basement is filling up with balls
Q:Â What is the total expected attendance?
A: We were originally hoping for at least 20, and we have 25 registered so far. There are 33 beds and we can sleep 38 people in them if we put two in all the doubles. So basically we have 12 spots left if we squish people in, 7 spots if we give people a bit of space to actually move.
Q: Are you doing this again next year/ever?  Â
Not next year for sure, unless someone else wants to take on Camp Director duties.  I mean, just for context our last Megamind fandom meetup was in 2014 and this one is in 2018.  So who knows what we will be doing in four years?  Sure as hell not me. Â
So if youâre holding off on going cuz you think you can go next year..... donât do that.  Who knows if this will ever happen again. Â
- Dani Kin Camp Director
Partial attendance
Some people have wondered about attending a few days of camp but not the whole thing.  Theoretically that is possible but I need to know which days you're attending so I can calculate the exact cost. Â
Let me know if that is something you may want to do by messaging me here or at @dani-kin  Iâll be camping in middle Wisconsin this week (about two hours from where camp will be) so Iâll get to your messages as soon as I get back.
