You know, the more I think about it, the more I feel like Deimos should be in God of War Laufey. I mean at first I just liked the idea of Faye and Deimos interacting, but now it feels like he has to be there if Santa Monica wants to use more of him
Yes, we saw him in Sons of Sparta recently, but that was specifically Deimos as a child, exploring his relationship with Kratos and their halcyon days before Deimosβ abduction. And if Deimos actually died after he was taken and that was the last we saw of him, that would be fine. But he didnβt die, and both we the audience and Kratos see him as an adult in Ghost of Sparta
And in Ghost of Sparta, adult Deimos is only there for like 5-10 minutes of the entire game. And he also got cut out of any other games he was planned to be a part of. Which is tragic not only because the rest of the GoS was building up to him so much, but because what we do see of his current circumstances are very interesting and very underutilized
Heβs clearly got some mental issues from being imprisoned by the gods for 30+ years and while heβs able to work with Kratos at the end, I doubt all his resentment and complicated feelings towards his brother wouldβve completely gone away afterwards, and despite the fact that heβs been imprisoned, he looks suspiciously ready for battle, which is never explained. We also have no idea who Deimosβ father is and whether or not heβs a demigod (which he probably is) or whatβs up with his birthmark, as it now glows orange but then stops glowing once he died
Thereβs a lot to work with here, but since heβs dead we canβt really explore any of it. And I donβt think a prequel game before his death would really work either, considering heβs supposed to be locked away in Deathβs Domain and seeing how Kratos didnβt know he was alive before GoS, Deimos wouldnβt be allowed to do anything that spectacular even if he was allowed to go outside
But the Everywhen, being the βafterlife of the godsβ, now poses the perfect opportunity to finally see more of Deimos and explore that untapped potential. Yeah heβs not officially a god, but thereβs just enough mystery surrounding his circumstances and (as of currently) how the Everywhen works that I think itβs possible for him to be there. I mean, Fayeβs here and sheβs not a goddess, so why canβt demigod Deimos? And itβs a pan-mythical realm, so thereβs no pantheon boundaries stopping him either
This is the perfect opportunity to let us see more of Deimos (and as heβs not the same as he was in SoS heβd justify an additional return to a modern game) and finally get to unravel some of the mysteries surrounding him, see what heβs really capable of now that he isnβt fighting Kratos or the literal God of Death, and see how these new circumstances would change him from what we saw of him in Ghost of Sparta. Also, itβd make great story potential for Faye to meet probably the only person here that Greek Kratos actually cared about and get more insight into who he was, different from what sheβd get encountering the rest of the Greek pantheon
Like unless weβre going to get a second game in the Everywhen after Laufey, I feel like Deimos has to be in it if the writers want to do more with Deimos. Granted, that all depends on if the writers want to do more with him. But he was literally in Sons of Sparta, the last game released, so itβs not like theyβve forgotten about him. And it wouldnβt just be setup for the remakes either since Deimos isnβt from the original trilogy and you canβt use him there. So I have to hope they want to bring him back
