The Vascular Surgery Dream Team. Saving the world... one leg at a time.
How surgery residents celebrate Thanksgiving...
alumni weekend.
One of my patients is learning English and I'm of course slowly learning Spanish. He speaks to me in English and he patiently helps me speak to him in Spanish. Ironically the hardest thing for me to pronounce right now is cirugia (surgery in Spanish). We have lectures, attendings, senior residents and countless books, but in the end, it's our patients who teach us the most.

Med Student: so I have one more question. Do you feel like you guys have time to do things outside of work?
Me: yeah I mean..
(Phone goes off)
Me: sorry, just one second, I have to make sure this CT scan is ordered...
Explain something to me
I am a doctor. I routinely put my hands in people’s bodies – I have had blood, poop, vomit, amniotic fluid, and urine on me…
…and yet having to take out trash is so gross to me.
I have looked down and seen blood on my shoes – that was not nearly as gross as when I realized the trash had leaked on my floor when I went to take it out today.
Gross.
There's so much truth to this. I too do not understand this fear.
I'm also almost done with my bedroom. At first I had my desk in the living room because I thought it'd help with sleep hygiene. But I actually kinda like it in here. It's cozy. Plus, more importantly, I can shut the cats out of my bedroom when I need to study because apparently all pens, papers and keyboards are threats that must be attacked, according to the kitten.
So versatile.
At least Step 3 means new goodies. Trying out a new notebook in lieu of my classic moleskin. I wish I could say I came to that decision easily…

This week on Vascular Surgery.
intern year, a summary:
Day 10/12 straight. That is all.
Meet little miss Granger. She makes it damn near impossible to get any studying done, consistently annoys her older sister and attacks anything that moves. But even when I'm the most exhausted, there's nothing better than coming home to these two waiting by the door for me every night.
So a med student, an intern and an attending walk into the OR...

That one time when you find out your med student actually follows a bunch of medblrs. Including a certain someone… Weirdddd. Also hi! I promise I’m alive and well. More updates to follow.
Tomorrow.
Good luck to all my fellow interns tomorrow! (For those of us who haven't started yet) May the odds be ever in your favor.
