“  i  thought  that  was  pretty  obvious?  ”  he said,  words  spoken  slowly.  it  still  amazed  him  when  obvious  jokes  went  straight  over  people’s  heads.  “  i  do  not  know  that  song,  but  i’m  assuming  i  wouldn’t  want that.  ”

ariel nodded slowly, although she was never one to believe in a god at all.”i guess so.”she remarked.

“yeah that’s kind of fucked up man. at least the way you worded it anyway.” she nodded, understanding where the other was coming from though. as her own mother was a pediatrician, she’d heard similar talks over the years. a snort following after her last statement. “right, i didn’t think you admired the shitty ones. ”

“a ferret came in today with super low glucose levels. the little man was almost in a comatose, but luckily his owner brought him just in time and we worked some magic. that is pretty much the most exciting thing about my day. what about you?”

“I am certainly glad you’re back. Any plans for while you’re here? We should get together some time, have a coffee and properly catch up. I’m sure there’s lots you don’t know.” She replied, studying her unpainted nails. “Aw, that’s adorable. She is kind of a mini you.” Smiling at the young girl, she crouched down and held out a hand for her to shake. “Nice to meet you. I’m Chantal. I hope I get to know you better.” Nodding, she added, “Make sense, you always were so impressive. Saving lives? That fits perfectly.”

ariel laughed and smiled lightly.”well maybe that is your super power being able to walk into anything and not break a bone.”she remarked, a little surprised that she hadn’t broken a bone.

“if you really are that good you deserve to be able to brag about it.” he said chuckling at the young girl’s enthusiasm. “that’s cool. you must be real proud of her. i didn’t even know they had dancing competitions around here.”

“I’m with you on that. Air conditioning is my best friend around these months.” Her eyebrow raised at the other’s answer. “Oh? That must be nice then. What made you decide to come back?”

“uh, yeah. that’s the plan.” actually, that stopped being the plan months ago but it was something she was still playing along with. “yeah that’s tough shit but it’s what you sign up for, right? so what can you do.”

sutton listened to what her sister had to say, but she didn’t really get it. what was she talking about? did she kill someone? that was the only possible thing that could be worse than what the town was already saying about the taylor’s– especially after sutton cut off three girl’s ponytails in one day alone freshman year. what ever it was had to be bad. “hey, you know i wouldn’t let ANYONE talk bad about you – or any family member for that matter? i’d cut a bitch.” she chuckled softly before listening to her sister’s next words. “he? - oh, fuck! dude! that’s a baby,” she spoke, dazed, with wide eyes. as if she has never seen a pregnant person before. “holy fuck! congrats, bitch!” sutton exclaimed, “wait,, sorry,, am i allowed to swear,, like, can he hear me?”

“looking for jobs is so damn exhausting,” she sighs out, taking a sip from her iced coffee before continuing. “and they’re so demanding, too. someone was literally asking for somebody with an upbeat attitude and lots of desire to work. like, ay dios pobrecito, he’ll never find someone like that.” this whole ‘getting a job’ idea sucked to begin with, but according to her professor it’d give her experience or whatever.

“yeah yeah, i’m fine. no harm done. see?” he said gesturing to his unbothered form with a small smile on his face, mainly for the sake of the small child she had by her side. he didn’t really mind that they bumped into him anyway. he was a lot of things but never ignorant to young kids & moms. “you must be a ballerina in training. i’m ezra.” ez joked, introducing himself while he tucked his phone away & redirected his attention to the woman, noticing where her hand was placed out of the corner of his eye.
