I realised I'm kinda really late for an intro post, but, better late than never, so? Uh...
Hello, welcome!! 💚
My name around these parts is Eshi (she/her), and I mainly post meta/analyses of the characters and story, occasional art, and the few scarce fics and drabbles, if I ever want them on my blog instead of just my ao3.
I DO NOT support cc!Dream btw. Just as a quick disclaimer before anything, I need that man Gone. My current remaining interest in the dsmp is purely for the characters, story and nostalgia.
Some specifics:
(For context, most of these points were written back in DSMP's heyday, and have only been slightly altered - if that clears up anything lmao. And I don't feel the need to rewrite it entirely yet as I haven't been active enough to change the status quo of this blog, so to speak, yet, so!! There you go)
As you'll find out quickly, my main focus is c!Tommy. I love the other characters, too, however, I simply find him to be the closest to my heart, the most familiar :>
I've been in the fandom since the start of the smp!
I do not frequent twitter, tik tok, reddit, and wherever else besides youtube and obviously tumblr. Thanks to my friends who are for sending updates on that (as... cursed as they might be sometimes).
Obviously I love cc!Techno and miss him greatly like we all do, but most of my posts were made before his passing, so you will still be able to find posts critical of c!Techno (and c!Phil here). So if those upset you, probably best to not root too deep into my blog and block the respective tags ;^^
Really critical of c!Dream as well btw. But that should be obvious coming from a c!Tommy main, idk what a c!dream apologist (or a cc!dream stan, for that matter) would even do here.
That said, I apologise if I ever upset anyone with my rambles. I generally try to keep this blog positive, but some things I just don't feel positive about, and I don't always succeed in expelling that well. But I do want to be truthful in these opinions, and I adore having civil discussions. In any case, feel free to block me if needed. Others' comfort comes before my block men thoughts, please take care.
As for my general opinion on every character - everyone is gray, but gray is a gradient. Noone is blameless, and I want everyone to be happier.
And for my final point - I am... kinda inactive a lot, for personal reasons. So I really apologise if I don't answer your ask, I promise it's not against you or cause I don't want to, I'm simply really bad at juggling my time and focus. I might get to everyone eventually. But for now, sorry for that, and thank you for any interaction <3

I think there's also something so sweet about games in general on HermitCraft because for the most part they are made just for the server. Like there's so much love and care put into making the games for their fellow hermits to play. And not only do they make the games they also do the continued maintenance and upkeep and the hermits clearly love and enjoy them and get all competitive to be the best and it's so fun to see. It brings them all together and really brings together the whole server. This season especially has been a season to highlight games and it's been so fun.
I just can't get over the fact that these games are made pretty much just for their fellow hermits. Their friends. :)

Fire hot take here but I don't think that as a fandom, we don't talk about the actual builds or styles nearly enough, and that's pretty surprising considering this is a mainly-builder smp.
I've only been watching hermitcraft for about a year and the amount of pure joy I get at seeing the different builder's styles is unmeasurable.
Like how Scar can twist his love of sci-fi with his love of organics; creating factories and steampunk scenes chock full of life. How he plays with heavy, industrial blocks like deepslate and blackstone and copper, and mixes it with leaves and foliage to create fantasy worlds within builds like the Iconic swagon or the Cookie Factory. How he plays with weight like in his gorgeous bent-over tree in 100 hours. His consistent use of expensive but visually unique blocks such as the tops of smiting tables to create floors and the way he plays with proportion to create great effects like a Disney Park would, and hiding detail and story in every corner of every build.
Or like how Grian has a less fantastical but much more realistically accurate build approach, easily replicating building styles in an easy to digest manner, and how he's wonderful at pulling you through each section of his creation and teaching you how to create your own. How he's experimenting with colour (like in his new copper roof in his latest video) and story, clearly taking influence from surrounding hermits.
I'm a bit unsure of what is Pearl's specific building style is, other than covered in greenery. Her organics are what really drew me to her and her Jack-of-all-trades style, and helped me come up with what is probably my own favourite build of all time. She's also a great teacher, and her compositional skills in builds are lovely, even when playing with smaller scales like in her build a day series, usually having a smooth flow in both her organics and buildings. Her use of colours is gorgeous and I keep finding her instantly-recognisable builds popping up on my Pinterest boards when I'm looking for inspiration.
Bdub's use of colour and texture is something increadible; I've only been watching him for a relatively short time but his introduction of new blocks such as the coral used in the big eyes bay paths quickly shoots it to one of my favourite blocks. His builds are bright and cosy, and his season 8 moon base was instantly iconic for its unique space, as well as the gorgeous mixes of oranges and blues he uses throughout his town. He can even make basic shapes interesting, such as the Monolith in season 9, which uses stairs and slabs to break up the stick shape of a monochrome build, and he utilises the smaller builds into living spaces. His organics are increadible, such as the Tree of Whimsy, which is so light and mixes stairs with the birch brilliantly, making the tree feel bright and airy, with leaves bursting out at the branches. The use of gradients in his latest video seriously stunned me. Using the gradients as shadows to create the impression of depth covayed the intricacies of the build without it ending up overly blocky or large, and this is a technique that I'm absolutely itching to try.

they’re also kids who are like. they’re annoying as hell. they’re little shits. they burned down someone’s house and it was a whole Thing. they want to do the right thing. all of the adults in their life are somewhere between “a little bit shit” and “actively abusing them”. Even the adults that do try to help have enough of their own problems going on that it still leaves them as The Protagonist. they love animals.
(honestly though it’s mostly the “shitty brat kid with the weight of the world on their shoulders. who should Get to be just a shitty brat kid but can’t bc of circumstance. henry the cow 🤝 shou’s hamsters)
just realized i forgot to ask (and i love asking): if the mp100 characters got zapped into the life series, which gimmick would be each character’s favorite/least favorite to be in? 🎤
OOOOHHH.... ahh this is tough.. partly because I actually only started avidly watching the life series since secret life, and casual watched double life also, and only have very vague memories from the first 3, so I may not be the best person to ask.. but I'll try my best!!
Mob... I think he would like double life, because he's a romantic at heart and thinks the gimmick is cute. But he has fun with all of them! Doesn't really do well when the lives start going down, he doesn't really like killing people, so he's kinda a wet cat in that kind of way (kinda like Pearl). His least favorite would probably be limited life (doesn't like the concept of a time limit and also the boogeyman. DON'T ask him how it went when he was one, he doesn't want to talk about it .....)
Ritsuu... hmm. I feel like he would dislike secret life because the tasks would often lead him to (in his opinion) embarrassing situations and he has thin skin in regards to that. But on the other side, he has a childlike mirth for being able to hold secrets and do clearly defined tasks sooo.... he both hates and loves that season for different reasons lol
I don't know what Shou would like (I feel like he would do great at all of them) but I do not which one he would DISLIKE. double life, definitely, imo at least. He hates being tied down to another person. Maybe if it's Ritsu he would tolerate it, but otherwise... it's just not his style.
Reigen would be the Scar of the life series I feel, LMAO. But I feel like he would do worse at this than Scar, he keeps getting beat by these fucking teenagers. He dies. Badly (Reigen canary curse holder ... )
He also tries scamming people a lot but it doesn't work cause these kids know him and what he does (well, Serizawa falls for it, but he and Reigen usually team anyways so it's sort of a desert duo situation. And Mob also gives into his scams, not because he's oblivious, but just because he feels bad for the guy lol. And then Reigen tries to scam Ritsu and gets thrown off a cliff for it 😔)
Serizawa feels like a 3rd lifer to me.... idk, just something about him respecting and having nostalgia for the og.. something like that. But like Shou, he would be good at all of them, except secret life. I feel like he would fumble his tasks a lot. But Shou and Seri would be a power duo otherwise. He would do really well with the trivia bot also
Tome I feel like would have the most fun in secret life. She loves fucking with people and she would be kinda like Martyn where she's very intent on snooping once she turns yellow (and tbh even before that). But she makes so many careless mistakes while playing which leads her to not making it too far usually (she gave her soulmate so many jumpscares in double life)
Teru's favorite bit out of everything is definitely the superpowers gimmick from wild life. The mimic ability is PERFECT for him. Otherwise, he's generally a good player, but gets in over his head sometimes.... none too many deaths have been caused by him falling into his own traps lmao
