Unique Photo Session Ideas You'll Love
There is nothing quite like capturing memories with your loved ones. Are you someone who enjoys taking beautiful pictures of you and your family?  Then you are probably always on the lookout for inspiration for your next photo session. Below are some unique photo ideas that you’ll love.Â
•   Family history. Are you a fan of the photos that your grandparents or even great grandparents have taken? Why not replicate them yourself? All it takes is a bit of editing and you can achieve the same look and feel. •   First and last day of school. For the first day of school, get some fun pictures of your child getting ready. You can then do the same on the day that they graduate from high school so that you can create an amazing “before and after” picture. You can even choose to add on college photos later. •   Generational photos. Photos are one of those items that are passed down through generations so why not create one that future family members can treasure. Take a photo with your daughter, mom and grandma to show the generations of women in your family or any other mix of family members that you want to place in a picture together. •   Pregnancy pictures. There are many fun ways to show your progress through pregnancy and documenting it with photos is the perfect way to capture this time in your life. Years from now you’ll be able to take your child through your journey before you got to meet them and share that special moment with them. •   Pet portraits. If your pet is a member of your family then capturing memories with them is just as important.  There are so many great ways to take some amazing photos whether it’s outside at a park or in the comfort of your own home. •   Gender reveal. Why not make finding out the gender of your baby a fun surprise for everyone by turning it into a fun photo that you can send around. Some cute ideas include releasing pink or blue balloons out of a box or you could incorporate a cute color frame to hold around your belly.

Choosing a location that’s right for you
Choosing a great location is one of the most important pieces of setting your family’s photo shoot. The backdrop you select will set the stage for the entire session and will be an essential piece of every shot, pose and, ultimately, the finished product. We recommend picking a spot that’s special to you, either a spot you love, somewhere you frequent or a place that best represents your family.  If you are at a loss for inspiration a great tool to use is Pinterest - look at other portrait sessions and get an idea.  Create a board and share it with us.  We will watch what you are pinning and start to get a feel for what you are really looking for.  This helps us create a very personal feel to your upcoming session.
After you’ve narrowed down the list, it’s important to think about some key logistics: are there restrooms? Is the distance from the parking to the actual shoot location far? If so, pack comfy shoes for everyone! Will there be places to change outfits, retouch hair and makeup and relax between shots? Will there be crowds nearby—and, if so, are you comfortable shooting in front of others?Â
We’ve seen amazing sessions everywhere from backyards to baseball fields, lakes to open meadows. We know the area and can help make recommendations based on your family’s unique needs, personalities and inspirations.
The Importance of Hiring a Professional Photographer
With the recent explosion of the digital camera market, and even smart phones that take amazing photos, why should you go with a pro?Â
A smart camera does not make a smart photographer. Just because your friend, co-worker, or relative may have a high-speed, high-quality digital camera, does not mean he/she is an amazing photographer. While good “over-the-counter” equipment does help the average consumer up their photography game, a professional photographer brings an artistic vision, approach and creative eye that can’t be bought at the electronics store!
Professional equipment perks: Shooting with Canon/Nikon (yes we use both)Â and professional lighting equipment helps us take the best shots, even in less-than-optimal circumstances. Low light, nighttime and even high speed action shots can be tricky for the amateur shutterbug, but pros know all the tricks to capture every moment.Â
Posers: Ever tried to corral 50 friends and relatives—including a few wild kids—for a big group shot? Or need a little inspiration for your own special portraits? Professional photographers can help—and will know how to get guests together quickly and easily while making everyone feel comfortable in front of the camera.Â
They’re hired guns, not guests: Just like you’ve missed something at a wedding, party or other event because you’re chit-chatting, dancing, grabbing a drink at the bar or maybe even a few minutes late, a professional photographer is there exclusively to capture your moments. By hiring a pro you’ll guarantee he/she won’t miss the perfect shot because they are tearing it up on the dance floor—Uncle Bob just might!
The end result: Pro photographers can also edit and retouch images and design beautiful finished products like albums, custom prints, canvases and more.Â
Your best moments deserve just that—the best. Go pro! Â
