Heyy what would you say are the best romantic matches for an INFP 9w1 (926) in your opinion?
It definitely depends on the person because every INFP is different, but sure I can offer some opinions on it lol. (I’m not as well versed in Ennegram as I am in MBTI though so I’ll mainly focus on the INFP part, just a disclaimer. Although most enneagram tests I’ve taken say I’m most likely a 9w1 as well so 🤷♀️)
Anyways, in my opinion what INFPs need most in a partner is a lot of understanding and a lot of grounding.
Our feelings and internal world and ideas run very deep within us, and we need someone who gets that and is okay with us having some things we can’t always explain, or things that will always be wildly important to us that we can’t compromise.
We also need someone who can be a voice of reason and a “rock” persay for us to depend on. That’s not always necessarily what we want, since many of us don’t want to be tied down or told we’re dreaming too big, but we do need it. Especially in times where life gets overwhelming or we’re struggling with personal problems. We need someone who can get us out of our heads and help us reach our goals realistically. We need someone who makes us the best version of ourselves and encourages us every step of the way.
Now here’s the thing, many types can achieve this and compliment the INFP in this way. There’s not really a definite answer to this question. But there’s definitely types who lean more towards these traits than others.
One example I can think of off the top of my head is my parents. My mom is a fellow INFP and my dad is an ISTP. They have a very healthy marriage with great communication and they balance each other out very well. My dad is very understanding of the fact that sometimes my mom just needs to feel things, and whenever she has wild creative ideas he’s good at helping her think through them realistically. I think ISTPs can be a good match for INFPs because they also tend to be reserved and fairly laid back, but they look and interpret the world very differently and help INFPs gain a new perspective.
There’s another couple I know where one is an INFP and one is an INTJ, and they also work together very well. As they’re both intuitives they enjoy exploring the big picture and intricate concepts together, they both have a common interest in history and the arts and enjoy traveling together and exploring the world. But they also differ in many ways that compliment each other. The INTJ has a much more analytical perspective on the world and likes to learn more about how things work than the INFP, which helps them to problem solve together.
Those are only a couple possibilities, but obviously there’s many more and also many factors that can come into play. An INFP who’s developed their tertiary and inferior function (Si/Te) and is pretty good at grounding themselves might want a partner who is more spontaneous and outgoing, whereas an INFP who’s a bit more on the erratic side might need a partner who’s more serious. For example I’ve dated an ESFP and an ENTP respectively, and neither of them ended up working out mainly because our personalities just didn’t mesh well under the circumstances, I was dealing with a lot of mental health problems during both relationships and having a more spontaneous and outgoing partner only raised my anxiety. That doesn’t mean a relationship with those types couldn’t work, it just means there was other factors at play that didn’t work in our favor.
I know all of that may not have answered your question directly, I just think that relationships are very complicated and there’s not really a single or few types that are perfect for an INFP. I hope I could help at least a little though!
If you’re asking what types I, an INFP, am most attracted to however, that’s a different story 😂
I know the whole point of being an introvert is the need to recharge, but like,, I wish I could recharge faster
Hi the cutest couples I know irl is esfp x enfj, and infp x esfp 🤩 I think it’s because enfj and infp are two very ”human loving” types that are intuitives but also pretty ”grounded” (like the esfp also is), and it’s cute together with the esfp who is just very ”raw”. Because both enfj & infp intuitive about human things, and the esfp is so genuin, also they both are very accepting. That kind of makes them similar but also they’re different.
I can definitely see that!
Totally agree with you on the INFPs and ENFJs having similar deep loving types, despite them not actually sharing any functions, just some letters. I think it’s probably because even though they have different things going on in their brains, a lot of times it comes out and is executed in similar ways.
I have a bit of experience with INFP and ESFP, I’m INFP and one of my exes was an ESFP and even though it didn’t end up working out, our personalities definitely complimented each other in many ways. I think in general those types can get on pretty well in both friendships and relationships.

hello! sorry if this is bothersome, but i was wondering if you could help me distinguish between infp and isfp?
i’ve thought i was an infp for years now, using cognitive functions even. im definitely no expert, just kinda vaguely know what each one is, but i went through it using several sources i and was like “oh yeah oh yeah this is it” but i dont think it’s It anymore ??
i got diagnosed with adhd in december and ive been taking medication, so it’s been a lot easier to be able to distinguish what’s actually my personality and what kind of just comes from adhd. i think that i might actually be isfp. i think i related a lot to high Ne because with adhd youre always bouncing around restless wanting to do all the things, and youre brain’s always on rapid fire mode. but since ive been on meds ive been less like that and more grounded (i still do drift off a lot ofc cause that’s just how it is). and ive been able to realize that i dont actually get caught up in my thoughts a lot,,,,like i dont uhhhh care very much,,,i am not concerned with the future very much? i think im very in the present, and i kind of just do whatever is in front of me. whatever im in the mood for. sensory stuff. i love piano, ukulele, video games, drawing, etc. doing stuff with my hands. im also a dancer; it’s very fulfilling to be able to engage in something so physically stimulating and be creating art at the same time.
anyways this is so long but im very very leaning towards isfp. it’s crazy cause i used to think i was so head in the clouds but actually??? i love to be grounded?? i love to feel and see and observe things instead of be imagining and thinking about abstract stuff?? im very in the present and i Do Not think about future stuff at all? i really dont think about the big picture at all?????
i know you dont know me so you cant really tell me what my type is, but any input or other differences between infp and isfp would be so helpful!! i also just dont really trust myself and im seeking validation or correction lmao. thanks so much for reading this i appreciate you a lot
Hey!! You're not bothersome at all, I love getting asks and talking to people about their types so thank you so much for sending this!
Obviously I don't know you personally so I'm not going to claim I'm 100% sure of what you are, but right of the bat I can tell you that based on your explanation you definitely sound more like an ISFP rather than an INFP.
(I'm gonna put the rest of my thoughts and stuff under a read more cuz my response is long too lol)

INFP: I’m having at LEAST a level 5 mental breakdown.
ISTJ: how many levels are there? What classifies as each level? Have you had this level before? Have you had worse? What-
ISTJ: sorry I’m not doing that thing, it’s just my personality okay I’m not doing it
ENFP: but I’ve known ISTJs who do this thing
ISTJ: yeah well I’m an ISTJ with five mental illnesses so
What actually makes two types compatible?
I’ve come across multiple arguments and proposals over the years about what makes types the most compatible whether it be romantically or platonically or whatever.
The two main ones I’ve seen are
Opposites Attract:
Opposite letters equal the same functions just in a different order, so the two types would compliment each other by having opposite strengths and weaknesses.
Examples:
ESTP/INFJ = Se-Ti-Fe-Ni/Ni-Fe-Ti-Se
INTP/ESFJ = Ti-Ne-Si-Fe/Fe-Si-Ne-Ti
And Opposite Functions Attract:
Where the functions are in the same order except they’re the opposite extroversion/introversion, so the functions have the same root but they are expressed very differently.
Examples:
ENFJ/INFP = Fe-Ni-Se-Ti/Fi-Ne-Si-Te
ISTJ/ESTP = Si-Te-Fi-Ne/Se-Ti-Fe-Ni
Personally I believe any types can work together, it just depends on the people and how much work they’re willing to put in the relationship, but I’m sure there’s definitely some evidence and a basis for what types tend to gravitate towards each other.
Also there’s definitely more theories besides just these two, these are just the ones I’ve seen the most!
Curious to know your thoughts!
