the truth is, when you’re about to die, there’s only one thing you think about – it isn’t the honors that were bestowed upon you. the times you were deemed worthy or the roads you didn’t take. no, when you close your eyes that final time, what you see are the people you loved and who loved you in return. through the good times and the bad. i always said i was fighting for my country, for my beliefs, but more than that, i see now that i was fighting for them. the ones who inspired me, the ones who challenged me, the ones who comforted me. i think about all we went through together, and now seeing them one last time. i know i can die proud. i can die happy. i can know peace.
