He shook his head, holding her closer as she began to tremble. “Maxy, I’m not like them. I promise.” he tried to assure, wanting her to know the truth. Derek loved her to death. He tried to let her know that as often as he could.

She pulled away from him slightly and looked him in the eye, tears trickling down her cheeks. “Y-You promise..?” she sniffled, holding on tightly to his hands.

He noticed her tears and let go of one hand for only a moment, wiping them away with a sad smile. “I promise. Never in my life would I even think about hurting you.” he soothed, holding her other hand again and rubbing the top of it with his thumb.
